Not all Menstruators Menstruate

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 06:29

Seen on a FB group about reusable sanitary products, now renamed Sustainable Menstruators.

Admin is explaining how she has made the group more inclusive with the use of Menstruators, even if "not all menstruators bleed and not all menstruators menstruate."

I can't keep up. What the biscuit is a Menstruator when it's at home?

And yes, some of these wankers are calling us non- men to differentiate

elferian · 07/09/2022 16:01

@bellinisurge sorry, having a bad day, I realized after I posted the reply.

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 20:22

Thanks @NitroNine it's a little way off (i hope!) but good to be prepared.

No one has made any further comments in the group. I imagine the reasons for this are a) they are scared of speaking up, because it's clear what the party line is, b) they don't see the issue because they dont understand there is an issue, but most likely c) most people haven't even seen the posts/changes due to the algorithms. I will do my best to keep the discussion going to try and wake the woke.

I mean, can't she just name the product or activity? Sustainable menstruation or whatever. Especially as "menstruators and non menstruators" means "people".

Admin has asked whether she should change Menstruators to uterus-owners. She is deadly serious.

The other thing is, as an inclusive group it also welcome friends of people with a cervix/uterus/menstrual powers. I've only just clicked this today (it used to have "and Companions" in the title and I stupidly thought Companions meant companion products, not Companions of people who used reusable menstrual products). It seems there are Companions who are definitely unable to have a period.

I am very definitely leaving the group, can't be dealing with this nonsense.

Can’t you stay a little longer to post dispatches from the front line?

I make reusables and buy them for my daughter. There are plenty of other sellers who don't use this pathetic, fetishistic language.

Fetishistic, that’s it. That creepy woman-erasing language always made my skin crawl, and you’ve hit on exactly why.

Big fan of Menstruator, but only the first one and Menstruator 2: Judgment Day.

Menstruator : Rise of the Machines had some good bits but by Menstruator:Salvation I was out.

Surely Menstruator 2 is subtitled You’re Grounded?

Maybe she's seen a gap in the market? Menstruators that don't menstruate? She could call them men-struators, or just 'men' for short....

I think you might be on to something there 😁

I suspect the weapons grade handmaiden of an admin believes that males can have menstrual cycles if taking female hormones. Like we see in the many batshit twitter threads where we see them thinking their IBS is a period.
Menstruators who don't menstruate.

Special eh?

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 22:36

Ok, so it appears the Admin understands that Menstruators has gone down like a lead balloon. She will remove it but is unable to do so for 27 days. She is asking for alternatives that don't mention gender. I mean, the original group title was fine but I guess it didn't clearly indicate it was a woke place.

Something like “Sustainable Period Products Users” would be gender avoiding enough?

drhf · 07/09/2022 23:09

I'd be interested to hear the admin's analysis, but perhaps she mistakenly thought "menstruators" was an approved euphemism for biological female. Her oxymoron was perhaps intended to mean "not all biological females menstruate". She may next try out "Not all uterus-owners menstruate" at which point she will be told off for triggering people by bringing up the allegedly unrelated question of uterus ownership.

The admin hasn't yet discovered there is no approved euphemism for biological female. Period products are marketed at menstruators, but who are these menstruators? Well, they are people who need period products. It's deliberately circular. The people who need to be booked in for cervical smears are cervix-havers. Who are these cervix-havers? The people who need cervical smears, of course.

There can never be an acceptable euphemism for biological female because that would mean acknowledging female biology exists and is significant. We are expected to talk about every aspect of female biology as if it arises independently and mysteriously. Women are being robbed of the opportunity to make sense of our bodies and to talk about them coherently.

Well no. There are loads of reasons why biological females might not menstruate (regularly/at all). Women with PCOS or other hormonal conditions for example, who might feel a bit touchy about this comment.

Lol, I've got PCOS and it wouldn't upset me at all. It's clearly aimed at men. I am not a man.

You’re right that there’s loads of reasons a biological female won’t menstruate- my 80 year old mum doesn’t, my 9 year old daughter doesn’t - in a couple of years I won’t- so why would you call my mum or daughter a menstruator? This is h the e problem when people won’t use words like women or girls. They become pretty useless.

if someone absolutely can’t use these words then best thing is second person- “if you need period products these are the sustainable pads for you!” “If you are having changes to your menstrual cycle contact blah blah” then at least when anyone complains they have to be a bit more honest in their reasons.

Yes, which is why if the OP was about the claim 'not all females menstruate' this wouldn't be a thread.

If you re-read the OP you can see what the claim is and why it is funneee

This is beautifully put.

It neatly fits into the way misogynists need to separate younger women from older women, or pit them against each other. They know full well that older women might be more experienced in identifying misogyny and dangerous patterns in male behaviour, and as such present a threat.

I remember talking about childbirth to an elderly neighbour after I'd just had my first baby. It mattered fuck that she wasn't a menstruator, may no longer have been a uterus bearer. It was a wonderful experience to feel this connection with a woman who'd given birth in the 60s. She ended the conversation saying "of course, we couldn't talk about this stuff back then".
