Not all Menstruators Menstruate

Seen on a FB group about reusable sanitary products, now renamed Sustainable Menstruators.

Admin is explaining how she has made the group more inclusive with the use of Menstruators, even if "not all menstruators bleed and not all menstruators menstruate."

I can't keep up. What the biscuit is a Menstruator when it's at home?

Going back to the original dilemma of what to call this group, why does it have to refer to people of any kind? Why not call it Sustainable Period Products' or something?
I mean, you wouldn't expect a business selling hair care products tying itself in knots trying to include naturally bald people or people who choose to shave their heads in the name, in order not to 'exclude' those people?

Lol, I've got PCOS and it wouldn't upset me at all. It's clearly aimed at men. I am not a man.

Can you really not see that it might be upsetting to be jokingly lumped in with men if you have masculine symptoms due to androgen excess which you were sensitive about?

Ok, so it appears the Admin understands that Menstruators has gone down like a lead balloon. She will remove it but is unable to do so for 27 days. She is asking for alternatives that don't mention gender. I mean, the original group title was fine but I guess it didn't clearly indicate it was a woke place.

Why can’t she just call the group “Sustainable Period Products”?! I don’t understand what’s complicated about that. Imagine (apparently!) working in the niche “inclusive” menstruation space for 18 years and still trying yourself up in knots about the language. Sums it up really.

Exactly! They could so easily avoid this, but have perhaps absorbed a vague compulsion to perform 'inclusion' just in case.

I'm actually very tickled by the explicit inclusion of companions. Imagine thinking 'well, I have a wife, and I sit next to Pam at work, maybe I should join a fb group to chat about washable pads?' Confused

MauisLeftNipple · 08/09/2022 11:41

It is totally bizarre. She has said she doesn't want the group title to mention gender. So.....don't? Maybe give it a title that indicates what it is about? Like, its original title 🙄

But, I think the issue is that she wants to make it very clear that it is not a gendered group, by pointedly de-gendering it, so that it's open to all people within seven degrees of separation from a vagina. Or something like that.

Just call the bloody group Sustainable periods (transpeople and people welcome) and watch as the group membership...falls off a cliff....

The "Companions" is bizarre too. Had I realized what it meant I never would have joined the group. Like, should I have been inviting my book group to the discussion about period cups? Weeiird. So weird.

Yes, this would be fine and probably easier to find when searching etc.

Surely you can't be called a menstruator if you don't menstruate? That'd be like me calling myself a bus driver, even though I don't drive buses!!

Yes, but you can just identify as a bus driver, innit? 🤦‍♀️

PrincessNutella · 09/09/2022 22:17

You just made my day. The whole idea that it isn't woke enough if you imply that menstruators are folkity folx who like, menstruate, is just absolutely perfect. I can't wait to tell the husband about this one.

MauisLeftNipple · 09/09/2022 23:30

Admin never responded to the request to define a menstruator who doesn't menstruate and so I will never know what she believes it is.

There's not even a single tumbleweed blowing across the group so I'm pretty sure she's killed it.

What a shame 🙄

Hopefully, the Admin has made a tactical withdrawal, due to having her arse handed to her on a plate, several times over? Deservedly. I mean, "Not all Menstruators Menstruate" - ???? What the hell is that supposed to mean, in any context?

I hope she has some kind people around her to comfort her, who are also rooted in reality, though.

sleepwbutterflies · 10/09/2022 16:14

If they keep reaching for physical identifiers to label women by, they're liable to wind up revisiting 'broad' eventually.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/09/2022 16:17

I’ve known lads who referred to girls as “fanny”- I thought they were arseholes but who knew they were terribly progressive?

EarthSight · 10/09/2022 16:32

not all menstruators bleed and not all menstruators menstruate

So first of all, we have a word menstruator being used because they want to press home the point that not all 'menstruators' identify with being a woman (even if they are, biologically still female).

Right, ok, but then this writer then uses the word 'menstruator' (menstruation being biological function) as a synonym for 'woman' (how incredibly transphobic) which is why they then feel that they have to point out that not ALL menstruators actually menstruate.

Ha! And the posh boys who referred to women as "skirt" were actually ultra woke pansexuals, letting us know that as long as the outward stereotypes were right, they had no transphobic genital preferences.

Maybe she's seen a gap in the market? Menstruators that don't menstruate? She could call them men-struators, or just 'men' for short....

Brilliant Grin

I don’t ‘own’ my uterus. It’s part of my body, like my kidneys and my liver and the little wart on my left hand. ‘Owning ‘ makes it sounds as if I have some choice in the matter, as if I could maybe sell it to someone and then they would be the rightful ‘ owner’.

“For sale: uterus, lightly used and still in original packaging. Offers accepted, p&p at cost.”

SidewaysOtter · 11/09/2022 15:40

'menstrual powers'? WTAF are they?!

The ability to have bigger tits once a month coupled with a fuse so short it could be classified as a dangerous weapon?
