Not all Menstruators Menstruate

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 06:29

Seen on a FB group about reusable sanitary products, now renamed Sustainable Menstruators.

Admin is explaining how she has made the group more inclusive with the use of Menstruators, even if "not all menstruators bleed and not all menstruators menstruate."

I can't keep up. What the biscuit is a Menstruator when it's at home?

I don't even get the whole euphemistic "Menstruators" / "Birth-givers" whatever shit anyway. If I were a TW, I'd find that even more exclusionary than the term "women" as it specifies female functions I didn't share.

Supposedly it's to be inclusive of 'nonbinary' females and transmen. Wtf they should prefer biological language (let alone the mangling of it) escapes me.

Just call the darned things 'period products' ffs if you can't bear or don't dare to say 'women and girls'.

DysonSphere · 07/09/2022 08:54

@Rightsraptor

Or even someone who raids sanitary bins for used products, known to us here as menophiles

My head just exploded.

HaveringWavering · 07/09/2022 09:03

The language is all nonsense.

But, taking a step back- who the fuck needs a FACEBOOK GROUP about reusable sanitary products in their lives?

Is there that much to say about them that you need to have daily chats?

Step away!

Rightsraptor · 07/09/2022 09:05

So sorry @DysonSphere ! It's really unpleasant but it is a thing, I assure you. There are bits of the Internet about menophilia if you wish to go hunting, but I suspect you may not and who could blame you? And they wonder why we don't want them in our toilets.

FunnyTalks · 07/09/2022 09:14

I would ask her if she realises she's excluding women and girls who have English as an additional language and women and girls who have additional needs. She nay be shocked to discover those demographics use Facebook too! And many girls with sensory issues prefer the feel of reusable period pants to pads or tampons.

I would also, very earnestly, point out that you'd been told "reducing someone to their genitals" was really offensive and un-progressive.

It's useful to know what brands are reliable and where to buy them from, who's having a sale etc. My daughter will need products soon and I have no idea what's good for a petite girl.

But not that useful that I will allow myself to be reduced to a Menstruator. Daughter and I will work it out I'm sure.

Maybe she's referring to people who have had hysterectomies or are post-menopausal who would still like to access information on these products for their children.

ScurryfungeMaster · 07/09/2022 09:25

@Choconut 😁 I think you're on to something there.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/09/2022 09:29

I have laughed a lot at this thread. Partly at your very witty responses. Partly because I just don't know how else to deal with this madness.

You’d think, but now it includes menstruators
who don’t menstruate it’s very inclusive as I assume that means people who imagine their soul is that of a menstruator.

Perhaps they're trying for a good piece of the fetish marketConfused

It makes me imagine someone bringing out a gruesome specimen jar

doesnt have to be gruesome

you could probably decorate it with glitter and ribbon and stuff

But even if you don't drive buses surely you have the right to be called a bus driver? If you really want to be a bus driver? You might have bought a cap and a ticket machine and find ut really hurtful and excluding when bus drivers talk about their experience of rush hour traffic. " bytvi gave a cap! And a ticket machine!"
Hateful bastards. How dare they talk about the a66?

😂😂😂

Festoonlights · 07/09/2022 09:41

Someone might want to point out the WOMEN, those of us that have periods are unlikely to buy anything involving that word or support the ideology behind it, and so business failure is most definitely on the cards!!!
It is becoming a crowded market, we don't need to put up with this crap!

Lovelyricepudding · 07/09/2022 09:48

It simply shows why we cannot give up women meaning adult human female where female is those with the body type that has large gametes.

Be kind let them call themselves woman, we can be females.
Be kind let them call themselves females, we can be menstuators.
Be kind let them call themselves menstuators, we can be cervix havers.
Be kind let the think they are cervix havers, we can be.....???

LaughingPriest · 07/09/2022 09:50

"Not all menstruators menstruate" is, I think, in my Top 3 claims of this whole movement. Stirling work, everyone!

I've long been trying to find out what a menstruator is - someone who is bleeding at the time, or someone who has had a period in the past, or someone who thinks they might in future, or someone who might have to mess around with their medication to check if that results in menstruation? But actually knowing now that you don't ever have to menstruate to be a menstruator makes life a lot easier - it's literally everyone!

knittingaddict · 07/09/2022 09:51

I hate the word menstruator. Even when it's attached to sanitary products it just reduces women to a bodily function. Given how unpleasant periods can be for some women, it's not even a nice association.

Lovelyricepudding · 07/09/2022 09:52

My cat is a cervix-haver.

KassandraOfSparta · 07/09/2022 09:55

I am a WOMAN. I do not menstruate. I do not have a cervix. My uterus and cervix were removed about 5 years ago. So I am neither a "menstruator" nor a "cervix-haver".

This language is triggering to me, discriminates against my lived experience and medical history.

Well, it doesn't trigger me at all, but if men are triggered by the word woman, am I not allowed to be triggered by being named after a body part I don't have any more?

Perhaps we could call people "heart owners" instead of people. Or would that be discriminating against Pritti Patel?

maddy68 · 07/09/2022 09:58

I am a menstruator but not currently menstrating

Lovelyricepudding · 07/09/2022 10:31

Why do people have to be offensive towards people they disagree with rather than their policies? No wonder we don't get better politicians. This the same as TRAs heaping abuse on Rosie Duffield or Joanna Cherry.

Zuyi · 07/09/2022 06:36

What kind of person doesn't bleed? 😱

😂OMG the robots walk amongst us!

Chersfrozenface · 07/09/2022 10:56

I am not a menstruator. I stopped menstruating years ago. Even before then, I didn't actually menstruate periodically (see what I did there?) when I was pregnant and when I was on some forms of hormonal contraception.

So what am I now? A non-menstruator?

Aaargh, I'm having an identity crisis!
