The spell is breaking......daughters finally waking up?

I have slowly and gently been countering the trans ideology that my two teenage girls have been exposed to at school and social media.
One has always been very gender critical and we have been discussing things in the news like men in women's sports, the many (many) kids identifying as "trans" in her year at school, her own registration teacher (whose child is a trans male to female) basically indoctrinating her group on trans "rights", the law in Scotland where we live etc.

My oldest girls however, was VERY much TWAW, be kind, the whole hog. She has a gay BF and I think she was confusing the issues in her mind. We have had a lot of VERY tense conversations but I hoped she would come to her own conclusions in time.
Yesterday we had a breakthrough.
We were discussing (again) women's sports and the rugby issue, the golfing/snooker issue in the news. She finally admitted that biology is important in sport, that she thinks there should be categories for trans athletes (I will work on this!) and EVEN wondered OUT LOUD that bathrooms and sex segregated spaces should include third spaces for trans people.

It was a massive admission for her.
I did then explain to her that what she just said would get her "cancelled" as a terf, that these solutions have ALL been suggested and that they are never good enough for the TRAs, that they want #no debate, unquestioning acceptance that TWAW, across the board access to women's spaces etc.

She said....."it's not fair Mum is it?".

I could cry.

I think the spell is breaking.

Have you broke through with any TWAW children or relatives?

My kids who are 19 are hostile to having the conversation. They understand the need for woman's spaces, but only after a bit of arm twisting, same with sport. Generally I am shut down - they will leave the room if I bring it up.

I'm really hoping by the time my primary aged DC hit this age that the gender ideology brigade will be very old hat and embarrassing in a "urgh, non binary, you are soooooo 2020, we are bio-women now" way.

I'm hoping the same thing. I have a 5 month old baby and fear for what nonsense will be on the go when she reaches school age. Although I think if the gender ideology crap goes, it'll be replaced with something as equally ridiculous. Hopefully not as dangerous.

Same here. I'll dive in if necessary but I'm hoping against hope the tide is turning enough that I won't need to. I reckon I have about 5 - 6 years. DH is very woke, which doesn't help. I'm hoping that the reality of having a teenage daughter will make him see how important women's spaces really are.

startfresh · 05/09/2022 15:01

This makes me want to cry.

Is there hope yet?!

tresleches · 05/09/2022 15:26

This warms my cockles. My teenage daughter is GC. Last week I wrote an email to her school about a teacher "qualified to teach LGBT issues" putting misinformation and biased material on a presentation.

My daughter and her friends know they can't say anything in class, or school in general. They're under a lot of social pressure to smile and say nothing, and perhaps less cognitive dissonance involved in doing so if not engaging with GC views at home.

stopitstopitnow · 05/09/2022 15:35

I had a discussion with my "TWAW" supporting niece not long back about single sex spaces. She was very defensive until I asked her " Which would you rather be in a single sex space with, a TW who is a "lesbian" or a hetrosexual male, both have dicks and both fancy women?" The penny dropped for her then.

ah when the Country is uninhabitable in a few years and everyone is fucked because of climate change and the future is looking super bleak - I'm sure you will take comfort knowing you spent your time focusing on this as your fight.

ArabellaScott · 05/09/2022 15:44

Do you think we should repent, Fupoffyagrasshole?

Do you think that will save us all from the End Times?

Some (most) people are capable of fighting for more than 1 cause at a time.....guess you're not 1 of them.

IsItShining · 05/09/2022 15:45

She's in an girls school and almost every other girl claims to be trans, a lesbian, bi, or some other inclination. The more the school talk to them about it, run ''inclusive workshops'' etc the more girls ''come out'' as one thing or another.. to drill this into impressionable young people seems so incredibly unethical to me.

I'm not remotely surprised that the more girls are told, 'Being a girl is a question of the deep inner gender identity that we all feel', the more of them think, 'But I don't have a deep inner girl-gender identity, so logically I must be a boy/NB.'

It's a false premise from the start that most girls are girls because of an independent inner gender identity. They're just female. Much less confusing.

IsItShining · 05/09/2022 15:58

Damn, I skim-read that before I quoted it. I don't think they all come out as lesbian or bi because of talks on gender identity.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 05/09/2022 16:09

No @ArabellaScott i just think this is a massive waste of time when you could literally be doing anything else with your time.

MangyInseam · 05/09/2022 16:11

If the climate really goes wonky and the shit hits the fan with regard to living in a society mediated through reproductive tech, it's going to become very clear that men and women are not interchangeable.

Best get to it, then, hadn't you, rather than posting on forums on subjects that don't interest you. Chop chop.

To be fair to Fup, I should be working on a climate change project right now (or at least once I've finished my coffee).

I wish those campaigning for loss of female-only protections would stop doing so, and go and prioritise climate too. There are better ways of providing facilities for gender-diverse people than taking them from women, and it's also much cheaper than tackling climate issues.

It beats me why shoehorning male people into female facilities seems such an important aim for anyone.

Yeah, I'll be sad that the Green Party got sidetracked by identity activists from fighting on climate change and environmental issues focussing on ousting GC members.

The rights of women and my daughter's future are a massive waste of time?

Depends on your perspective, I suppose.

IcakethereforeIam · 05/09/2022 16:48

Yeah, wish I could vote for the Greens. Why are they wasting their time on this nonsense? I do what I can, but it's not a patch on what they could achieve if they weren't so set on alienating their potential supporters.

Great news OP. I think/hope the "trans" fad is dissipating.

What we really need to kill it off once and for all is for lots of tedious middle aged women like me declaring ourselves "trans". The kids would move on to a different form of rebellion. Hopefully one that involves forming bands and writing songs, ghastly teenage poetry, that sort of thing....

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/09/2022 16:55

Indeed. They are sending such an excellent message to the world about the urgency of the environmental disasters facing us with their luxury belief gender politicking.

pantsofshame · 05/09/2022 16:58

I think the tide is slowly starting to change. DD has a number friends who consider themselves to be trans or non-binary so we've had some discussions on the subject. In discussions with her I've always made it clear that I am not transphobic but do worry about the impact on young people (particularly lesbians) of telling them that if they don't conform to gender stereotypes they need to change their identity and how we are safeguarding women if any man who says he feels female has access to women's safe spaces and sports. I've suggested all her friends might be happier if we challenged the gender stereotypes so society would not think anything of a boy who likes make-up and musical theatre or a girl who likes sport and is attracted to other women.

6 months ago her stance was very strongly TWAW, no debate, #bekind. During a discussion about self ID she stormed off shouting 'Fuck off terf' at me. A few weeks ago I heard her say to a friend 'but of course, gender is just a social construct'. She's also agreed with me that it's dangerous to have biological male inmates in female prisons. I'm keeping fairly quiet now and letting her join some more of the dots for herself.

Zebedee999 · 05/09/2022 16:59

Well done to you OP but it's a lost cause. School and Unis have adopted hook, line and sinker the woke and cancel culture and will ride rough shod over parent's rights.. and what is in fact right.

Yes, I want my daughters to grow up in a world where women matter, their voices are heard, and they know how to protect the erosion of their rights, healthcare, language and dignity.
It IS possible to care about a number of things at once.

Shouldn't you be off super gluing yourself to a painting somewhere? Off you pop.
