Antipodean fruit grower statement

1000 replies

nothingcomestonothing · 27/08/2022 13:44

The antipodean fruit growers site is down. A statement from the owner reads in part:

What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [redacted by me as would be against MN talk guidelines] while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which criticizes [redacted], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead.

Posted for info.

Grey’s hatred is showing ☀️

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 28/08/2022 03:08

GreyCouncil, you seem to argue that defending free speech automatically means harassing and doxing people
That's a very sinister attitude of yours
That we cannot defend free speech, in case we upset people who are trying to shut down our free speech?

Nothing wrong with defending free speech
I'm all for it myself.
I do think there comes a line though where it tips from defending free speech to hate speech, doxxing, harassing and incitement.
Which just aren't the same.
Why should anyone defend the latter?
Nope, not "defining" hate speech either as anyone knee deep/head first in it and "gone" won't see it if it bopped them on the nose

How? It's just posts disagreeing with the majority?

lolcows" (people who can be "milked for laughs")
Ohhh, that's what lolcows means, saw that earlier and wondered what it meant!
Sounds like a load of bullying arsehole behaviour to me, I mean who defines who is or isn't worthy of being laughed at, harassed, doxxed, abused, threatened?
Sliding behaviour, all on the same scale.

NotBadConsidering · 28/08/2022 04:29

hate speech, doxxing, harassing and incitement

So Twitter against women, then.

Isn’t it funny how everyone focuses on all the bad things that go on on KiwiFarms, but all of the above actions have been carried out on a Twitter against women:

Hate Speech: sooo many examples
Doxxing: JKR, Caroline Farrow etc
Harrassing: where to start with that?
Incitement: JKR again, “TERFs POV in my mentions”, “Punch a TERF”, baseball bats with barbed wire, and so on, and so on…

Not to mention Twitter hosts porn, and allows paedophiles to freely advertise their interests and share CSA images. Why is Twitter allowed to get away with all this?

That's nothing, you can plan an insurrection on Facebook and get another SM platform taken down by blaming them for it. But we should definitely be more upset about people being mean on KF.

People hate KF because they demand receipts to back up anything posted there.

What does yall mean?

I too am interested in this. Is it some kind of particular activist speak?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/08/2022 07:46

y’all especially combined with folks or worse folx makes my teeth itch

i see as usual TRA harassing & doxxing is fine cos reasons but KF doing it is unacceptable

for the avoidance of doubt no one should be harassing or doxxing anyone anywhere

PomegranateOfPersephone · 28/08/2022 08:04

Y’all is an Americanism isn’t it? Arising from the the feeling that we need an explicit second person plural pronoun. Of course you is our second person plural/formal in English but since we for some reason stopped using the singular/familiar thou and the need for a distinction between addressing singular and plural second person subjects/objects hasn’t disappeared with thou, y’all is an American fix for that. I think that “all of you” would be more commonly used in the UK. 🤔

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

Only in the warped by absolutist and polarised cognitive dissonance corners of your mind.

Please stop accusing posters of being complicit in actions of abuse when they are clearly not involved in. It is a sign that you have nothing but emotionally manipulative support for your argument.

absolutely

i don’t think ive seen anyone defending harassing or doxxing on any platform

Even your link states particularly minorities, women, LGBT people, neurodiverse people, and people considered by Kiwi Farms users to be mentally ill or sexually deviant

so how its ‘evidence’ of mumsnet transphobia i dont know

If you honestly cannot see the wild accusations being flung out by council, and are labeling those as ‘just posts disagreeing’ are you blind or just the usual contrary.

So, you are all for free speech, but not if it disagrees with your parameters.

And ; Nope, not "defining" hate speech either as anyone knee deep/head first in it and "gone" won't see it if it bopped them on the nose doesn’t strike you as rather hypocritical when your very next post was to defend a poster for making accusations that you label as ‘just posts disagreeing’.

Do you ever read your posts back and think about what you are saying?

Purity of thought, Rufus. Anything other than that purity is to be denounced.

If this platform is so terrible, why are you associating with it?

I get that many people think if they dislike something it must immediately be eradicated from the world, but most people grow out of that around the age of 3 and understand that if you have rights, so does everyone else.

So you read words on wiki and immediately believed them with no other research and lo and behold, it is transphobia. Well, blow me down. Even the inventor of Wiki says it is so corrupt he won't use it. This is a case in point of how easily people are manipulated by propaganda.

If you want an evil platform, Twitter is right there.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 28/08/2022 08:41

I avoided the antipodean fruit farm because of the reputation which preceded it. When it gets back up I will visit to see for myself.

I have listened to a bit of a podcast with the owner of the farm, he sounds like a decent enough bloke so far… Left 8chan, wanted a space with some rules, not a free speech purist, no images of naked children, no death threats, no physical violence- it isn’t funny seeing someone get beaten up etc what was acceptable on the farms was laughing at and exposing bad behaviour of Internet personalities so he said on the podcast.

I imagine that once the site is back up it will have a massive influx of new users. It is always the way isn’t when an extreme cancellation is attempted.

If the TERF wars have taught me anything it is go to the source, read, listen and critically analyse it yourself, never trust hearsay, rumours, reputation, what other people say or “everyone knows”.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 28/08/2022 08:53

If this platform is so terrible, why are you associating with it?

ive asked this question soooooo many times and ive never had an answer

i went on the fruit forum once….i did not like it, the small section i read was very homophobic, and ive not visited since

if I honestly and truly felt that mumsnet was, for example, full of homophobia i wouldnt be on here

i think there are obviously and without question homophobic, transphobic, sexist, islamaphobic, anti Semitic, racist and disabalist posts on this forum but that isn’t the ethos of the forum, thats random posters being twats….and exactly what the report button is for

PastaForLife · 28/08/2022 09:04

Absolutely this. I went on this week after certain TRAs were crowing about it on Twitter. They’d posted all the things about this person that were not allowed to discuss on here. It was illuminating. And as others have said, it wasn’t conjecture, they had the receipts.

FOJN · 28/08/2022 09:08

This is excellent advice. People should also be cautious about using wiki as a reliable source for anything, so much content on the site is being memory holed and replaced with heavily biased information.

LaughingPriest · 28/08/2022 09:19

I think I understand some of the idiotic posts on here - certain people conflate "defending a website's right to exist as long as it is lawful" with "agreeing with and endorsing all the posts on it and the things that the people posting on it might also think but not post about".

Clearly that's an incorrect understanding.

I think the term "defending KF" has obviously become meaningless - try using more specific language to convey what you actually mean - if you know what that is.

Datun · 28/08/2022 09:25

Anyone unsure as to the specific reason KF has been targeted can read their statement. It's fairly comprehensive and detailed.

The line is the law.

‘hate speech’ isn’t a thing in American law.

there is a country by country guide on Wikipedia:en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_by_country so you don’t need to come up with your own definition.
