Antipodean fruit grower statement

1000 replies

nothingcomestonothing · 27/08/2022 13:44

The antipodean fruit growers site is down. A statement from the owner reads in part:

What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [redacted by me as would be against MN talk guidelines] while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which criticizes [redacted], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead.

Posted for info.

"seeing as I had to explain to you how to find the site"

It won't load at all for me today. Has the domain changed again since yesterday?

"There is no harrasment, nor threats, Marge, as you well know."

I don't know about right now, but there has been in the past.

TheClogLady · 08/09/2022 16:27

not against children, Marge.

get your updates directly from Josh’s comms, same as the rest of us.

"I only go to Mumsnet to check how to get onto Kiwi Farms" is certainly one to add to the list of "not very good excuses for sharing platforms with Bad People".

AlisonDonut · 08/09/2022 17:07

So does that make Marg a Kiwi farms user?

MP is enticing people to spin their wheels ad infinitum. If you've better things to do with your time, well... you know.

If only more people were skeptical of which things journalists tell them are dangerous, are dangerous, and possessed a realistic concept of risk and benefit, perhaps we could have slowed the steady slide into tyranny.

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/09/2022 17:19

Marg stop expecting the women here to do the work for you, you’re wasting everyone’s time.

Why does anyone bother interacting with MargaritaPie? We know their MO by now: repeatedly get the wrong end of the stick, relentlessly repeat falsehoods already debunked on the thread, blatantly make shit up. Pigeon chess comes to mind. Just let the posts wither on the vine.

You forgot the faux naivety

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Sealion

sleepwbutterflies · 08/09/2022 19:40

Yes! I didn't realise there was actually a term for this!!

The manner reminds me of someone I had a run in over another topic a while back; didn't realise this was actually a thing!

Haha! I'd seen this years ago but completely forgot about it. Awesome.

Sealioning is the nuclear turbine dynamo that powers all debate on Hacker News. It's almost against the local etiquette NOT to do it. The last straw was when they had a 2500 comment thread about KF that was 99% lies and innuendo. They fancy themselves "rationalists." I changed my password to gibberish without looking and logged off for the last time.

That's a part of what bumped me over here. I heard that people were talking sense and I had to see it with my own eyes. I'm sick of talking about silicon valley anyway. They used to be my heros. Google's first motto was a cutesy "Don't be evil!" Now ... well.

seems like 5 minutes ago that everyone was banging on about net neutrality.

now… crickets.

That cartoon gets posted regularly on here as a sort of gotcha to prove the point about "sea lions"

It does exactly the opposite. The woman in the first picture makes an irrational, biased and prejudiced comment and refuses to give an explanation for her prejudice.

It's an example of the fourth definition in the urban dictionary. The sea lion's question is a fair question, politely put. The "sea lioning" is the woman's refusal to answer the question.

nauticant · 09/09/2022 08:54

You haven't understand the cartoon.

nauticant · 09/09/2022 08:55

Bah, that should be understood.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/09/2022 09:08

The sea lion's question is a fair question, politely put. The "sea lioning" is the woman's refusal to answer the question

That's not what sealioning is.

nauticant · 09/09/2022 09:12

The point of the cartoon is to shift the perspecitve of the reader. In the first panel the reader thingks "what a rude woman!" but by the last panel the reader thinks "ah, she wasn't being rude, she's just exasperated, she's obviously been through the sealion loop a number of times, and in the first panel she already knew by experience that the sealion's motivation is to enjoy the harassment".

picklemewalnuts · 09/09/2022 09:33

The sea lion persistently intrudes where they aren't wanted, including in people's private spaces, to force people to engage with them.

I can see why no one likes sea lions.

picklemewalnuts · 09/09/2022 09:35

Oh, for an edit button.

For five windows, the sea lion behaves badly. But it's the woman speaking about disliking sea lions that gets seen as rude and angry and unreasonable!

AlisonDonut · 09/09/2022 10:06

And the sea lion cannot see that they are sea lioning.

Oh what beauty there is in art.

The sea lion over hears a bigoted, prejudiced woman being bigoted.
