Antipodean fruit grower statement

The antipodean fruit growers site is down. A statement from the owner reads in part:

What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [redacted by me as would be against MN talk guidelines] while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which criticizes [redacted], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead.

Posted for info.

You'll have trouble quoting the posts that say that they love that site, because they've been deleted as obvious trolling/screenshot opp.

The one the pp quoted is still up. I'm astounded that they have chosen that one post. Astounded I say.

Gosh, that's hilarious. When they harassed Julie Terryberry (a cis woman) until she killed herself, was that for 'child safety'?

It's a hate and harassment site run by a man who was too dodgy (CP) for 8chan. The fact that you have grown adults expressing their love for the site is frankly embarrassing, particularly when we're talking about a misogynistic shitpit on a supposed feminist forum.

So many lost their critical thinking abilities when they gained their anti-trans monomania.

Here's another cis woman who is currently being harassed by that awful place.

Is KF a cesspool? Yes. But honestly I've spent far too much of my time in the last 3 weeks looking into this and the site absolutely has not led to anyone's suicide.

I have no dog in this fight but misinformation annoys me. People unalive themselves all the time especially people who are weird or vulnerable enough to post their lives all over social media. "Lolcows" are people with multiple complex co-morbidities, which is how they end up with the attention in the first place.

When newspapers in this country publish stories about suicide they are meant to abide by the Samaritans guidelines which discourages linking suicide to a single factor for good reasons. The lives of the people who killed themselves are all over the internet and to reduce them to victims of one website is reductionist and harmful.

Is laughing at vulnerable people online immoral? Yes. Is it illegal? No.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/09/2022 11:38

tweeted 'you're next' to JK Rowling

A very open-ended threat. The 'threat' against Keffals was very specific and obviously ridiculous.

Is this week's after JKRs home address was plastered over the internet?

Do you mean by US Harry Potter fan youtubers filming themselves outside her home or the myriad 'what to see in Edinburgh' websites?

You do know she has more than one property?

and the one the activists photographed and published is her private home and not the one that is on wiki, which is a legitimate tourist destination?

that said, posting someone’s address isn’t illegal, but hurting people is.

i will always come back to where the law is, personally (and campaign to change that law or have it applied more accurately when I think the law is wrong) but nonetheless it’s disingenuous to argue that Rowling’s personal home is a tourist destination.

Yes, I'm talking about the one that was on several 'Edinburgh attractions' websites or can be found by googling "JK Rowling house" and watching a video such as this which is on the first page of video results.

RadicalFern · 04/09/2022 12:14

“Her private home has already been found by the mostly well-meaning so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be widely publicised by the malicious”

TheClogLady · 04/09/2022 12:17

so not the ‘tourists welcome’ property.

So if you think it’s ok to take photos outside of JK’s private home, presumably you also agree that it’s fine to take photos outside of a private residence that Keffals has moved into?

in which case, what point are you here to make?

I doubt very much that "what to see in Edinburgh" includes Rowling's home address.

ArabellaScott · 04/09/2022 12:24

I'm not sure they're all 'new', per se.

Clymene · 04/09/2022 12:24

TheClogLady · 04/09/2022 11:17

Mumsnet must be thrilled with all these new members eh?

I'm sure. There were loads of troll posts in the early hours which were just a wall of trans flags and a bit of c&p mentioning Keffals.

Unhinged

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/09/2022 12:24

Quite, Arabella

Really? I went to sleep just after I posted here. Which topic did they post them in?

That happened a couple of weeks ago too - spamming across several boards.

I doubt very much that "what to see in Edinburgh" includes Rowling's home address.

Here's one, if you were on the actual site you could zoom in and see the address or just use google with the information avaliable. It's been taken down now after all the commotion.

At the end of the day both the JKR and the Keffals doxxing are equally serious or not serious at all depending on your point of view.

IIRC this hyperpop song was taken incredibly seriously as a 'death threat' too when it was "very specific and obviously ridiculous."

Ooh. I missed all that.

KatVonlabonk · 04/09/2022 13:41

It's a very interesting thread on Keffals on the farms. No wonder they wanted it gone so much. Be interesting how many people will discover the busy little farmers now.

Across the board - mainly in AIBU - some new threads, some posts on existing threads. Nightwatch got rid of them so there'll be a thread in there I expect.

TheClogLady · 04/09/2022 14:23

So there is!

presume it’s ok to link to another MN thread purely as ‘for your information’ type thingy?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/09/2022 15:47

Ah thank you both! Sad sacks.

picklemewalnuts · 04/09/2022 15:54

I hadn't heard of Keffalls before. Clearly I now have.

I was aware of kiwi farms from previous concerning news stories. While I don't like browsing the site, when I've looked for specific information it's been documented, 'receipted' and somewhat bluntly expressed. No whipping up of hate, just rather coldly stated information for people to make their own conclusions from.

Obviously I've been on very specific parts of it, and I have no idea what the rest is like.
Given what I know is freely discussed and barely moderated at all elsewhere, you have to wonder why KF is getting the hate.

Oh, wait...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/09/2022 16:46

I went on one of the existing posts they posted on in S&B which was codes for a particular retailer, and they posted their nonsense six times in succession (before getting deleted by the Night Watch) and a MNer just replied "that's nice dear, but do you have a code?" GrinWine

Datun · 04/09/2022 19:03

that's nice dear, but do you have a code?"

🤣

I saw another one about some tosser who had posted yer akcheral dick pic and they deleted it with the message we're taking this down whilst we have a look at it

Update: If by "antipodean fruit grower site" you mean kiwifarms, it's been blocked permanently.

www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/cloudflare-provided-security-services-kiwi-farms-blocks-website-rcna46219

blog.cloudflare.com/kiwifarms-blocked/

"This is an extraordinary decision for us to make and, given Cloudflare's role as an Internet infrastructure provider, a dangerous one that we are not comfortable with. However, the rhetoric on the Kiwifarms site and specific, targeted threats have escalated over the last 48 hours to the point that we believe there is an unprecedented emergency and immediate threat to human life unlike we have previously seen from Kiwifarms or any other customer before."

Saucery · 04/09/2022 19:47

Do keep up, Marg. It’s still accessible. Smile
