Complaints against Baroness Nicholson being organised

Imnobody4 · 16/08/2022 19:53

An official compliant has been lodged with the @Conservatives Party in regard to @Baroness_Nichol’s online behaviour.

It comes after dozens of complaints were lodged with social media companies regarding her views on #trans.

The Conservative Party has been contacted for comment

twitter.com/ChamberVoice/status/1559229955543912450?t=wOEs_8EZI3NztrVZDlCUUA&s=19

Chamber voice is an on line 'news' outlet.

Apparently Twitter banned the Baroness, but immediately corrected after appeal.

They really are idiots, what do they think they achieve.

This is ironically and sadly, the very kind of mob mentality which has silenced minority voices for years, and which has meant that gay people had to fight to even be heard
But.... you're fighting for the right of speech of those who don't agree with LGB or LGBT rights too! (Separating as she has shown homophobic views, away from transphobic ones as well)

20 years ago she was probably older than you are now. If she hadn't reached peak maturity by 60 years old, then that's even more to worry about.

I do wonder at what point the one issue voters would actually say "y'know, this person is actually agreeing with me on this issue, but given that everything else about them is shit, I might actually not vote for them."

If Hitler was alive today...?

"Maturity" isn't really the issue. People often change their minds over time for reasons that have nothing to do with maturity.

But it is worth remembering that the Baroness took and takes a lot of her views from the position of being a children's rights advocate. And even today there is not unity in the lgb community on the ethics gamete donation in relations to questions of children's rights, just as is the case in the wider community. Nor is there total unity even on the question of same-sex marriage and what the social/legal purpose of marriage is, and that was even more the case in the past, which is why Stonewall did not pursue it for a long time.

I always remember 10 years ago when Dolce and Gabbana said in an interview they didn't believe gay men having children through surrogacy was ethical, and many people were unable to comprehend how they could possibly believe that without being self-hating homophobes. But that really just reflects a very flat understanding of the question.

Cuck00soup · 17/08/2022 01:17

I'm as GC as they come and usually a big fan of the Baroness and her awesome way with words. She gets right to the heart of the matter with humour and beautiful precise language.

I think this is a rare misstep. As a nurse, if someone needs wound care post surgery I would do it, wherever their wound was. Happily, kindly, professionally and as gently as I could.

I still don't believe humans can change sex.

It's also disingenuous to suggest people undergoing such surgery are jumping any kind of queue. Last time I looked gender reconstruction surgeons weren't performing many hip replacements.

Turning men's penises inside out and sticking it inside them, for cosmetic reasons, should not ever be part of any NHS brief.

Of course it shouldn't. Good grief, what were they thinking??

This ideology creates lifelong medical patients like smarties. Understandable in the US where that's the point, but the NHS wasn't designed for anything like it.

And of course TRAs are gunning for the baroness. They gun for everyone. But she's outspoken, powerful, highly respected and she totally gets it.

And it'll only serve to strengthen her argument, of course.

No debate is over.

Apollo442 · 17/08/2022 01:33

Stonewall weren't in favour of gay marriage ffs. Attacking someone over 20 year old posts just shows how desperate the TRAs are. Well two can play at that game. If you are sending in complaints we will send in one of support. And there are many more of us. The game is up.

Again with your "everyone who disagrees must be a TRA!" rhetoric.
There's lots of people who are disagreeing with who aren't TRAs.

You know that how? Send them in by all means, no'ones stopping you.

This is just such a fucked up way of thinking.

Where even to start?!
You shouldn't get to start saying what is eligible for surgery or not
Plenty of women

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/08/2022 01:42

Bloody phone
Plenty of women out there want surgery for cosmetic reasons, they should be stopped too then as not needed?!
Stop handing breast reductions or enlargements like smarties?

Datun · 17/08/2022 01:44

You shouldn't get to start saying...

Just leaving this here with no comment.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/08/2022 02:03

So nowt to actually say then whilst chopping off half the comment.
Ok.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/08/2022 02:06

🤣 No you're the carcass
😕😫 sorry but just what are you actually going on about?; 😁

Well they're talking about the NHS. So no, the NHS shouldn't pay for breast enlargements just because plenty of women out there want one.

It's from a mumsnet classic which indicates the level of discourse has degenerated to the level of 'no, you are'.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/08/2022 02:13

It by you shouldn't get to start saying you think that means I want to start censoring you, I don't.
I do think there's a line though between free speech and hateful speech.
Should we just let the latter roam in the name of free speech?
Not just in trans issues.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/08/2022 02:15

Cross posted with a few posts there

All homophobes are also transphobes. Hence why the LGB and the T go together.

As we say in Scotland “ oh do you bloody think so?”
No, they don’t go together, the T should never have been lumped together with the LGB.

I'm no TRA, but Emma Nicholson is, and always has been utterly objectionable, so if people are finally calling her out for her longstanding homophobia, bigotry, and dark-ages views, then all power to them. The last thing the UK needs is yet more dinosaurs in a totally unelected upper house subjecting us to their ignorance.

You have just outed yourself with your choice of words. Well done 😂

Thankfully the baroness has some powerful crossparty friends. Even if the tras knock her back there are others who will step up.

Breast reductions and enlargements on the NHS are fairly rare, almost always done for spinal health and post-oncology reconstruction, respectively, and are never done because a woman who develops a B cup decides one day she was born into the wrong body and should have been an F.

Where are you getting this from though? I with my B cup could quite easily apply for surgery for enlargement tomorrow (,I don't want to, but I could))
should I be denied it then as according to this thread I need to learn to be happy with what I've got?

I can’t comment on the tweet.

I do wonder if surgeons are honest about what is achievable with these operations and if they’re giving patients unrealistic expectations of what a ‘good outcome’ means. Given how the medical profession has mistreated and lied to women over the use of vaginal mesh and industrial silicon in breast implants I can’t imagine that they’re any more reliable when it comes to ‘bottom surgery.’

I also wonder how honest the surgeons are. These are procédures with staggering ratés of both failure and complications.

Touché!

Bills come before parliament, they are voted for, against, amended, bits voted for or against, more amendments until it goes through, or not and then they all move on and get on with the next one. Life moves on. You can't take the votes on one particular Bill and attach to a fixed, unchanging, ideological belief in perpetuity to it. That is for Twitter. 🙄

Some posters really have little knowledge about how good and robust laws are made.

They take a very superficial view of the vote and treat it like a reliable 100% indicator of an MPs beliefs.

Often forgetting in some votes, MPs might be voting as per the party policy with pressure of the Whip. Others vote against to have the law further discussed and modified.

Using an MP’s voting history out of context, while ignoring that at the time plenty of dissenting voices were being publicly heard from within the LGB community about the word ‘marriage’ and other issues with the bill as well, is a very common activist tactic.

Then please have a word with the rancid homophobes in your movement who smear lesbians as 'sexual racists' and compare lesbians refusing cock to apartheid.

I see nobody’s responded to this yet. Nancy Kelley of Stonewall has compared lesbians to sexual racists. Cathryn McGahey QC, a member of the BarCouncil Ethics Committee, equated the cotton ceiling with apartheid during Allison Bailey’s tribunal.

Is that all perfectly acceptable? Because to me it sounds blatantly homophobic.
