Anyone fancy Money Box this afternoon at 3pm on Radio 4?

Felicity Hannah and a panel of experts talk money when you are transgender or non-binary.

jane fae – Director – TransActual

Cleo Madeleine – Spokesperson – Gendered Intelligence

No I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

No I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

Its radio, you can do both

LizzieSiddal · 20/07/2022 14:37

That true but I can only inflict one painful thing on myself, what with the heat and everything.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 14:43

What in the name of Sister Michael does being non-binary have to do with your financial situation? Fuck off with this nonsense. Really. Just fuck off.

LizzieSiddal · 20/07/2022 14:51

I expect it’s the BBC box ticking.

Amen to that!

Sittininafield · 20/07/2022 15:17

Good lord, nearly put my off my driving. It’s weird how transwomen sound like men on the radio…. So much self indulgent twaddle … one of them said that clothes were a cost of being trans… et, we all need clothes!

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 20/07/2022 15:18

Why don’t people want a GRC? If it makes life easier?

nauticant · 20/07/2022 15:21

Apparently it's the nightmare process of seeking to get one. Only a small percentage of trans people, I think they said 1%, can bear it. That's what's being said at any rate.

At present you still need a diagnosis of gender dysphoria . Bit hard to get if you are an AGP, I suppose.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 20/07/2022 15:31

Such self obsessed twaddle. Didn’t hear the beginning but basically, the people speaking right now are expecting to not be treated the same as everyone else but to actually be treated differently. IE they don’t want to have to be asked to prove their identity with documentation as that’s discriminatory even though every other individual dealing with a bank would have to submit documents to prove their identity. 🤷‍♀️. If there’s an account in the name of Joanna and a man’s voice is on the end of the phone then the banks fraud prevention is going to make them question that. But according to the speakers today, that’s discrimination and should be changed. FFS, if my husband rang up and pretended he was me, he’d be questioned under fraud prevention too. They are literally being treated the same as everyone else.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 15:32

And what financial trauma does a non-binary person have? Apart from sore ears because everyone laughs at self indulgent bollocks

DelurkingLawyer · 20/07/2022 15:37

Did I really get into my car, switch in the radio and catch a caller saying how hard it was to transition because they were now divorced and had to pay “the whole of the internet bill”??

nauticant · 20/07/2022 15:42

Did you get into your car when there was a lot of sunlight about?

MagpiePi · 20/07/2022 15:56

I only caught the end of it but was surprised at how a speaker managed to shoehorn in the recent 'dreadful' NHS discrimination case.

During the small bit I heard, I thought the presenter was quite good at keeping the speakers on track and not allowing it to turn into a trans pity party.

But also was a bit 🙄 at the sentiment that trans people should not be questioned on their identity at all. And the bit about having to pay bills all by yourself because you're single.

Another hateful thread.

Yes, very sunny.

I thought it was interesting hearing people’s voices separately from visual cues.

Pronouns.

nauticant · 20/07/2022 16:08

As was said at the start of the programme, one of the difficulties trans people face is getting their pronouns registered by organisations like banks. Strange really because never in my life have I had to register my pronouns with any organisation.

None of them mentioned the cost of buying a second ticket so that they can bring their ego with them on the bus/ plane / to the cinema

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 16:17

@Butteryflakycrust83 I'm sorry you feel that way. But everyone is Non-Binary. Literally everyone.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 16:19

Yep, never had my pronouns registered at a bank either. I get second place on letters from the bank because I'm "the wife".

Is that not a Waterboys song?

mosesb · 20/07/2022 16:24

What are you all so hateful?

My child says they are non binary. I hate that secretly everyone is saying all this horrible stuff about them

Other threads are available, I believe.
