If you have a Conservative MP and want to protect the rights of women and safeguard children please email them TONIGHT and ask them to support Kemi.

Penny Mordaunt still the bookies favourite (and they aren't often wrong) but we need to let everyone know how dangerous it will be for this woman to become PM; I don't believe she has changed her mind for one moment.

Who would you go for then HPFA? Rishi? I think he’d be ok for women’s sex based rights. I haven’t heard enough from him on that topic to feel confident.

dontholdback · 17/07/2022 15:00

How can anyone think that all the above doesn't matter because she'll guarantee single sex toilets?

Because the safety of women and girls is paramount.

HPFA · 17/07/2022 14:51

This is a woman who wants to abandon Net Zero, housebuilding targets (because people don't like new houses being built, apparently), "superfluous support staff and activites" in schools, thinks the housing crisis is down to couples getting divorced and has absolutely no experience of government at a senior level.

I'm GC but I'm thinking of displaying a Pride flag outside my house and joining Stonewall now! How can anyone think that all the above doesn't matter because she'll guarantee single sex toilets?

Come on, be reasonable.

None of these people actual believe these things. The aim is to convince us that Boris is in fact the best option in the Tory party to be leader, and frankly nothing I have seen over the last week suggests any of the other candidates would be as good as him at tending the pot plants.

‘I'm GC but I'm thinking of displaying a Pride flag outside my house and joining Stonewall now! How can anyone think that all the above doesn't matter because she'll guarantee single sex toilets?’

Are you? You’re thinking of joining an organisation that endorses labelling lesbians sexual racists, encourages children to embark on irreversible hormonal and surgical routes to unattainable goals, and stands against freedom of expression and basic human rights?

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 15:07

And we need to manage our housing stock better, not build over green fields we can never get back.

This!

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 16:05

In 2019 it was estimated there were over 200,000 long-term empty properties in the UK.

HPFA · 17/07/2022 16:11

@PomegranateOfPersephone

Rishi on the grounds that in the Channel 4 leadership debate he at least seemed to be connected to reality.

I don't think any party is going to entirely abolish sex based rights now. Rachel Reeves in an interview with the Times this morning was being quite GC ish and a quick glance at Twitter reveals that's hardly been mentioned by the usual suspects. I suspect they're beginning to realise that in order to get "anything" they're going to have to accept Labour can't be full on TRA.

@achillestoes

I think you missed the sarcasm there.

How many were owned by Tory MPs and those who pay them to keep the rules in their favour?

Abandoning Net Zero?

Has someone finally woken up to the fact that Net Zero just means offloading all carbon emissions onto another country?

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 17:56

@HPFA

Thank god for that.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 17:57

@jgw1

I don’t know.

McDuffy · 17/07/2022 19:02

KB'a odds have shortened considerably over the weekend, I have a 250% cash out offer on betfair after I stuck a bet on at 22-1

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:04

@McDuffy

Fingers crossed for you!

McDuffy · 17/07/2022 19:05

Should've stuck more than a quid on! Grin

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:08

I nearly stuck a tenner on her actually.

beastlyslumber · 17/07/2022 14:58

I want to abandon net zero too.

I think the idea of reducing support staff in schools is not a good one.

I'm sure there are other things I agree/disagree on. We're not going to get a PM who everyone agrees with on everything. But I really, really want a PM who is going to fight back against wokery and defend women's rights. I think that's Kemi.

Yes, I also tend to think net zero policy will be ineffective, and also very possibly end up as a backhanded way of giving breaks to certain industries. I also have some concerns with what it means in terms of currency.

Support staff I'm not so keen on being removed, but I do think the whole inclusion paradigm needs to be revisited and I also am very concerned about maintaining parental rights with regard to political ideas in schools and informing parents of measures schools are taking. KB might be the most likely person to look at something in that direction.

Surely no one actually thinks that net zero will solve the climate catastrophe, we need to go much further than that.

Conflictedunicorn · 17/07/2022 20:07

Like net -30?

I don't think many people have very clear thoughts on it at all. They see net zero policies as "doing something." Most people don't have a strong sense that there could be significant impacts to their lifestyles, neither the political class nor environmentalists tend to mention it.

But there are a fair number of people who seem to think it will have a real effect and seem to think that questioning it's effectiveness or downsides only happens because people don't care about the environment.

The poster who said that it just outsources carbon production was right.

And planting monoculture forests as "offsets" so that big businesses can conveniently avoid dealing with the damage they cause. Using up productive farmland in the process, just as the planet faces a food shortage, thanks to the Russians.

Yeah, Net Zero is ill thought out.

HPFA · 18/07/2022 15:27

Well, well, appears that "honest" Kemi has had a change of heart.

Presumably after realising her position was a vote loser.

Just saw that. What price conviction and integrity?

MangyInseam · 18/07/2022 15:31

Huh, interesting.

Not good, IMO. It's a bad idea.
