Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Fck it. Just going to identify as agender as a GC feminist.

I'm technically agender anyway as I choose to not believe in gender woo.

If males can infiltrate feminism by saying they're women I'm infiltrating transgendersism by identifying as agender.

If I'm asked my gender identity why shouldn't I say this, it's technically true according to stonewall.

Quite like the idea of being a double agent of sorts....

It is so frustrating not to be given a well thought out, logical answer though! I genuinely want to learn why some would argue trans sex is ok but trans race isn’t.

placewherewebelong · 26/06/2022 20:23

another flippant remark. well done you

Aw thanks pal. Appreciation is always welcome.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/06/2022 20:26

Im not silly enough to be goaded into that one.

So you splutter at the very audacity of the comparison and won't say why? What an entirely reasonable, good faith perspective.

FemmeNatal · 26/06/2022 20:27

placewherewebelong · 26/06/2022 20:21

Sorry. I forgot i wasnt allowed an opinion.

Are you going to explain why identifying as a different race is different to identifying as the other sex, or will this be argument by incredulity followed by some sort of flippant remark and then refusing to engage?

That’s the standard response to the question, have you the integrity to at least try to give a coherent argument?

As you know, the division of people into races is pretty arbitrary. If we picked different defining feature ps the sub-groups of humanity would be completely switched around, suggesting that race is a far less fundamental attribute than sex, which implies that trans-race is a less problematic claim than to be the opposite sex or gender.

So sex and gender are fluid but race is immutable? Why? Why can someone not identify as a different race, but identifying as a different sex is ok? You realise how stupid it sounds when you deny trans race is possible but transgender is?

VestofAbsurdity · 26/06/2022 20:27

They can't answer it so they won't answer it that is why they throw out the faux outrage for you even daring to ask it.

It's fascinating how those so steeped in this ideology struggle to explain it, evidence it, answer questions on it and get so very, very cross when asked to do so. We are just expected to nod along like donkeys.

Goaded? How so? Why can’t you explain why they are different?

Your response is pathetic, but completely as expected.

Can you imagine any other subject that people lobby so hard for but that they are completely unable to explain?

This is no different to a Catholic acting outraged when you ask why the host doesn’t taste of flesh if the transsubstantiation is supposed to be a literal one, rather than metaphorical.

I think this is why trans activists are never well-educated or intelligent; anyone who’s well-educated can see that the whole subject falls apart under even the most basic examination.

nailsathome · 26/06/2022 20:32

To me, the point of the matter is that since every single human fits under one or other (or many) of the gender ideology titles and we are all therefore under the trans umbrella, the whole thing is pointless and a distraction to the more important matters of women's rights and those with true gender dysphoria.

We should be teaching our young people to express their individuality fully without the need to surgically or chemically alter themselves.

I am also another one who would no doubt have been led down the gender ideology route as a teen - I am not feminine in the stereotypical sense and was often told I should have been born a boy. It's a very sad situation.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 26/06/2022 20:33

Oppression is experienced by POC and Women. Stereotyping would also apply to both race and sex. Detransitioning would enable men and white individuals to regain privilege that would not be available to POC and women. What am I missing?

@FemmeNatal you would be surprised by how many seriously educated people in the academic community are passionately committed to the TRA position.

I suppose so. The ones throwing around the threats on Twitter, and popping up here seem to have double-digit IQs, but yes, there are a fair few prominent academics who are very much on that side of the fence.

Conflictedunicorn · 26/06/2022 20:43

One of the questions that has always bugged me is that if gender is a white colonial construct and other races do not subscribe to woman =female and male = man apart from when white people forced them to, so how come in all these other cultures, it is still women who are mistreated, and used as property. How did they know which sex were to have no rights before the white settlers came? Or did the white settlers convince them that those people without dangly bits didn’t deserve rights, and before that women were equal?

Many people are very intelligent within a narrow sphere of knowledge but completely unable to think critically about other things.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/06/2022 20:51

I also think that it's quasi religious and based on a faith position that many people don't subject these beliefs to any kind of rational examination.

Ah, it’s the same logic that is able to claim gender is a white colonial construct, at the same time as plucking out, say, a misunderstood small group of highly dispossessed and marginalised low-caste male prostitutes in India, and then saying they’re exactly the same as white teenagers on Tumbkr obsessed with anime cat ears ….this of course is not at all colonialist. But doing yoga is though, keep up.

Don’t ask for any consistency or logic, those are also white cis colonialist Eurocentric expectations to which queer people don’t have to adhere because they’re busy queering the colonialist cis Enlightenment — or something.

Ah so that’s where I was going wrong, I was expecting logic and coherent arguments. My bad lol.

@placewherewebelong like Voltaire I support you being allowed to have an opinion.

I have been skimming in places so i may have missed something but you seem to have been measured and reasonable on this thread as far as I can see. I am sorry you have received some unnecessarily personal comments.

nightwakingmoon · 26/06/2022 21:07

Logic, reason and consistency are oppressive binarist and essentialist constructions imposed on us by the cisheteronormative system of colonialist imperialism of course, how phobic to think otherwise 😂

Are you talking about @placewherewebelong ? The person who’s been shouting at us, called me transphobic for no reason and has not provided any coherent or logical argument?

Ah, then you must have “skimmed” the bits where place repeatedly called other posters bullies, disingenuous, spiteful, mean, meanspirited, boring, transphobic, and so on. Not sure that anyone else has made any personal comments like those.

FemmeNatal · 26/06/2022 21:11

Isn’t is sad, pathetic, and oh so predictable that this thread’s TRA has done what all others do when a difficult question comes up?

All the claims of having a coherent argument, gone in a puff of outrage.
