LGB Alliance to plan helpline with Lottery funding

Fantastic news.

I would link to their Twitter announcement, but in usual state of play, Twitter has marked it ' may not be appropriate for people under 18'. A helpline planned for 13 to 25 year olds, planned by a panel of experts in child protection, education, helpline delivery, fundraising and psychology.

Yep - shut them down (much better to have helplines planned by IT workers who took their child to Thailand...)

As LGB Alliance state there is no dedicated national service of its kind for young LGB people in the UK.

I'm sure the Lottery Fund will be getting a lot of feedback right now, given the outpouring of hyperbole against LGB Alliance right now on Twitter.

So they may appreciate feedback from those who may see this as a positive move too:

""We really value your feedback. If you have a comment or complaint about the services that we provide, or if there's something important you think we should know, we'd love to hear it. Please email us at [email protected]"

Mermaids are an excellent source of info for all.
As they explain here, I know trans people who use "born in the wrong body" to describe how they feel, and no-one is telling them that they're wrong, how they feel is not for anyone else to tell them. mermaidsuk.org.uk/news/do-you-still-use-the-phrase-born-in-the-wrong-body/

And of course LGB Alliance are anti-trans, it's the reason they were set up in the first place!
Quote Bev Jacksn, joint founder of LGBA: "We’re applying for charitable status and building an organization to challenge the dominance of those who promote the damaging theory of gender identity."
They see gender identity as damaging and are against it - ANTI trans.

The theory of gender identity is not synonymous with trans. Transwomen are males with gender dysphoria. Suggesting that they receive counseling for their condition and understanding that they are not women is not being anti trans any more than telling an anorexic that they aren’t obese is anti-anorexics.

VestofAbsurdity · 12/06/2022 16:17

Sexual orientation and gender identity are different things

They are completely different glad you've realised that, sexual orientation is based on the sex bit and is nothing to do with gender identity, the clue is in the term homosexual meaning same sex attracted and that is the ethos of LGBA which is merely upholding and standing for the rights of those who are same sex (or both sex) attracted as per the definition and the Law of the land. Unlike Stonewall, et al, who have bastardised the term to mean same gender attracted which completely undermines the whole basis of homosexuality.

Transwomen attracted to women are not lesbians they have not changed sex they are still the male sex they were born no matter what they have done to their bodies and the same apples to transmen attracted to men.

You consider that not trans friendly I consider what you are espousing and what Stonewall and every other organisation that undermines homosexuality in this way to be deeply, revoltingly and dangerously homophobic.

Conflictedunicorn · 12/06/2022 16:23

Exactly what @VestofAbsurdity said. If you are saying that homosexuality is ‘transphobic’, I’d say you were actually a homophobe and not worthy of being listened to. A transwoman cannot be a lesbian as a lesbian is a female homosexual. A transwoman who fancies a woman is a straight male. A transwoman who fancies men is a homosexual male. A transwoman who fancies both men and women is a bisexual male. @Starlee does that make it easier to understand?

The LGB Alliance Twitter now has a warning asking if you still want to view it.

And yet those issuing threats of rape, assault and death to women are not…. It’s almost like there’s an agenda and Twitter is run by misogynistic arseholes.

Does that differ from the state of play described in the OP?

tbf, I gather that a fair amount of medical education Twitter comes with similar warnings and enquiries.

PIKNIK20 · 12/06/2022 17:14

Such great news for gays, lesbians and bi people. It was high time that LGBA got recognized for their excellent work

I wonder what twitter think might happen if some unsuspecting person were to stumble across it without first being warned.

At a guess, that they may see or hear information that this political lobby would much prefer no one was exposed to.

Clue: when someone makes it clear they are very afraid of you hearing the other side of their views and arguments, it's a whopping, huge red flag.

the LGB Alliance are not trans friendly

Oh the drama.

All you can possibly mean by this is that they are not TQ+ centric, not compliant with TQ+ political beliefs and tenets, and do not believe that homosexual people should be converted to something more acceptable to TQ+ politics.

If those things are 'unfriendly' to T people then there's something very, very wrong, and it isn't with the LGBA.

NonnyMouse1337 · 12/06/2022 19:03

A dedicated helpline for young lesbian, gay and bisexual people is sorely needed. They need to know there is nothing wrong with homosexuality and they have every right to defend same-sex attraction from those who do not respect people's boundaries.

Ages ago I posted a rant and I've saved it for those times when the blatant homophobia by gender zealots pisses me off. So here it is again.

-----

You know what really angers and upsets me about Stonewall and other gender zealots? The utter betrayal and undermining of the L, G and B.

The gender zealots are not content with making up their own definitions for trans, queer and the other trailing alphabets. No, they are determined to break any link with SEXuality for lesbians, gays and bisexuals. Already on the Stonewall website, it claims homosexuality is an outdated and offensive term. (Newsflash: it's not) They want to brainwash younger generations by avoiding the connection between the terms lesbian/gay with homosexuality. So now lesbian and gay no longer means same sex attraction, but same gender attraction.

Bisexuality was the last remaining one with links to SEXuality. First, the gender zealots pronounced that bisexuality is an attraction to two or more genders. But the SEX in bisexual was an awkward reminder of reality. Observe now that bisexual has morphed into bi. I've even seen some bisexual groups overrun by gender zealots who call it bi+. I mean, what the fuck does bi+ even mean?!?

This is a sinister assault on the reality of sex underpinning homosexuality and bisexuality (and by extension heterosexuality). They want to obscure and break any link or reference of human sexuality to reality. Younger generations are being g***d into thinking terms like lesbian, gay and bi are frivolous labels that are based on some nebulous feeling rather than a factual term for describing the nature of sexual orientation. It's so upsetting.

The gender zealots demand respect for their endless gender identities but refuse to respect homosexuality and bisexuality. I am biSEXual and not ashamed of my attraction to both sexes. Leave my sexuality alone you fuckers! Get your own bloody words instead of changing ours!

Starlee · 12/06/2022 14:55

At least starlee admitted that T people seems to be very different in needs to LGB people. Maybe, just maybe, they will be able to say just why all those letters have to be together otherwise, it is just hate and anti-T.

Of course there are differences, one is sexual orientation, the other is gender identity, two different things.
But they do have some things in common, all need acceptance from others to be who they are without being discriminated against.
Many need help to come to terms with their own situation. LGB and T people often lose family and friends who will not support them, most will suffer either verbal and/or physical abuse because of transphobia and homophobia, they can have extra problems to cope with in terms of employment, housing etc.
It is also very common for trans people to also be LGB and historically have fought alongside each other for their human rights, despite some anti-trans groups now trying to deny any trans involvement in that fight.
"All those letters" belong together because of all the similar fights they've had, because there is strength in numbers, because unity is better than division, love is better than hate, and because most LGB and TQ+ people WANT them to be together, the LGB Alliance are a small minority of the worldwide 'rainbow' community and certainly don't speak for all of us LGB people.

Then we should add in people with disabilities, non-whites, and women to the alphabet.

MaudeYoung · 12/06/2022 21:39

@Starlee "Of course there are differences, one is sexual orientation, the other is gender identity, two different things."

"Gender identity" cannot be proved to exist. It is, thus, a fantasy; like any other religion.

MaudeYoung · 12/06/2022 21:55

Perhaps Stonewall UK should come out and say that it abhors the abuse of LGB Alliance; that anyone who supports Stonewall UK should desist immediately because Stonewall does not want to be associated in any way with such abuse?

Otherwise, do we assume that Stonewall UK condones such abuse?

DeaconBoo · 12/06/2022 22:27

Starlee just to be clear - do you, personally, believe that it is possible to be born into the 'wrong' body? As in, people exist on some levels as souls and are matched with some kind of 'intended' body, and sometimes this goes wrong and they get a body that was not intended for them?

So some people have bodies that are 'incorrect' for them because they somehow don't 'match' a person's personality/soul/psyche? But generally everyone else has the correctly matched body?

Just trying to work out what you mean when you say 'born in the wrong body', because it sounds like you're advocating the idea that some children's bodies are "wrong".

Penguintears · 12/06/2022 23:32

I'd like to know the answer to that too.

And if you can be born in the "wrong" body then what's to stop people identifying as a different race? It is exactly the same principle and yet somehow TRAs cheer on identifying as a different sex but identifying as a different race is offensive.

Sadly my disabled DC can't identify into being able bodied.

It would also be a disaster for trans kids to be told by the LGBAlliance that they're not trans, they're just l or g. No-one seems to care about them but it happens all the time, and not only to kids but adults as well.

Starlee · 13/06/2022 02:26

NotKevinTurvey · 12/06/2022 09:56

You know what they say though, trans children are like vegan cats, it’s really not them behind it.

Ridiculous theory. Straight, lesbian and gay kids know they're straight lesbian or gay. Why's it so hard to understand that trans kids also know themselves?

Starlee · 13/06/2022 02:33

I have ADHD.

I attend an ADHD online support group.

I don't want to go to a 'neurodiversity' support group because it wouldn't meet my needs.

I don't see how this is any different.

That's fine and it's your choice. But one group is highly unlikely to be openly hostile to the other. LGBAlliance are openly hostile to LGBT groups.

Starlee · 13/06/2022 02:54

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2022 10:38

Just to point out that no adult groups involved with queer theory should be offering "counselling" "support" to children. We're in this mess because self invested adults have been allowed to "sell" their ideology to children with no filters - be they safeguarding, awareness of child psychology / development, age appropriate, professional supervision etc.

Counselling and offering support to children over something as complex as identity / sexuality is not for the untrained and needs proper training, management and supervision. Which I am sure that the LGB Alliance will plan for and provide.

But it's ok for LGB Alliance to sell their GC ideology to children?

There's nothing wrong with a helpline for LGB kids. There is something very wrong with a helpline for LGB kids run by an organisation that set itself up purely to challenge and deny gender identity.

Trans people know full well that many of them are also LGB so they are well aware that any trans kids could also be LGB and will be given that option.
You appear to believe in this 'grooming' nonsense that trans people want the kids to be trans. Well they know better than anyone the problems associated with being trans and any 'trendy' ideas will be gone long before the kids reach an age where they will be eligible for treatment.
And any parent doing even a basic search in what it entails for their child is not going to allow it unless it's absolutely necessary, no-one chooses all that for their kids simply to follow a fashion.

Starlee · 13/06/2022 03:22

NotKevinTurvey · 12/06/2022 12:30

It doesn’t follow. Again, why are you trying to drag trans into a conversation about sexuality?

Maybe because the LGB Alliance say that trans kids don't exist, they will most likely simply grow up to be L or G. The LGBA bring trans into it wherever they can, thinking they can turn a trans child into LGB instead!
How they think they can turn gender identity in sexual orientation they've never explained, sounds like conversion therapy to me, which is why they don't want it banned.
