LGB Alliance to plan helpline with Lottery funding

Fantastic news.

I would link to their Twitter announcement, but in usual state of play, Twitter has marked it ' may not be appropriate for people under 18'. A helpline planned for 13 to 25 year olds, planned by a panel of experts in child protection, education, helpline delivery, fundraising and psychology.

Yep - shut them down (much better to have helplines planned by IT workers who took their child to Thailand...)

As LGB Alliance state there is no dedicated national service of its kind for young LGB people in the UK.

I'm sure the Lottery Fund will be getting a lot of feedback right now, given the outpouring of hyperbole against LGB Alliance right now on Twitter.

So they may appreciate feedback from those who may see this as a positive move too:

""We really value your feedback. If you have a comment or complaint about the services that we provide, or if there's something important you think we should know, we'd love to hear it. Please email us at [email protected]"

The film grant was withdrawn by the body who awarded it, not by the Arts Council, to be clear. I can't remember the body but can find it ...

London Community Foundation.

Was really happy to see this and sadly not surprised at the ridiculous tantrums from some TRAs. Had to retrieve my eyeballs from the back of my head after reacting these two responses. Actually thought the second one was parody but it appears not.

Setting up such a helpline is something Stonewall should have done. The old Stonewall that is, the one that fought for the demographic it was set up to advocate for and not this homophibic Mark 2 variety. You couldn't entrust that shower with organising the proverbial piss up in a brewery.

Stonewall never existed to provide events or services in the community, even in the good old days before it fell to trans ideology. I can remember the regional Stonewall rep coming to speak to me and the other women who ran a large, busy monthly calendar of events for lesbians in our area — cycling, walking, supper clubs, workshops, weekend breaks, meet-up opportunities — and being really scathing of our 'little social club', though she liked the cheques that we handed her after running a fund-raiser club night and she liked the fact that if we publicised the Stonewall conference they got a good turnout.

Stonewall were always a cut above dealing with the everyday lives of LGB people. They were there to lobby and influence people at the highest level and that was it. It's what enabled them to quietly adopt the T with no one but a few committee members knowing what was going on. It was always run top-down, with a couple of key people making strategic decisions.

SFAIK, this refers to indigenous people of Canada. So not sure what this has to do with the UK.

Excellent news. I’ve sent a thank you email. I hope the TRAs aren’t allowed to sabotage this.

Excellent idea. I see the email address is in the OP.

It's a very rum do.

Pluvia · 11/06/2022 13:47

If everyone here emailed their thanks and added a few comments to

[email protected]

it would really help. I have. I thanked them and pointed out how all the local LGB groups and facilities had been taken over the LGBTQ+ and were in fact focussing almost exclusively on the TQ (and teaching LGB young people to be Q). I pointed out that LGB was a sexual orientation and TQ+ was a gender ideology choice.

Please, please, cut and paste and edit what you've written here and send it to the National Lottery Community Fund. Your emails will help support them to continue with this. If they don't get any thank yous they'll assume no one cared.

I've emailed the lottery, congratulating them on being able to see past a baseless smear campaign against LGBA and award funds to a principled and competent organisation. Hopefully will stand out against the 100s of emails they'll no doubt get about erasing and literally killing trans children.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/06/2022 18:35

Just to be fair to Stonewall (I know...) they used to run groups. There was a lesbian parents group back in the day when lesbian parenting wasn't acknowledged as it is now and everyone acknowledged what a woman was.

RadicalisedByMumzNet · 11/06/2022 20:25

Yes excellent idea to send an email in support

I don’t know what they’re afraid of either. If a young person phones the helpline because they’re wanting some advice or help about being gay, how do the TRAs work out that that’s a ‘threat to trans kids’?

The threat to trans kids is if a trans kid phones this helpline without knowing that the LGBA are an anti-trans group, and they get told that they're not trans, they're just confused LGB kids who will simply grow up gay, not trans.
In the past far too many trans kids never knew about gender identities and grew up thinking they were LGB although something still felt 'wrong'. many covered it up for years and even now some pensioners are still coming out as trans after living their whole lives not being 'themselves' with all the mental anguish that came with having to hide it.
It's only been with wider knowledge that coming out has become slightly easier, very much like the 70s / 80s when so many more LGB people were able to come out because of the wider tolerance.
The LGBA do not believe trans exist, they say no-one can be "born in the wrong body", so they are not going to give any helpful advice to trans kids who phone them. They're more likely to give their version of conversion therapy, which as we all know does not work and can make the situation far worse.

I thought Mermaids were supposed to be a good resource for “trans kids” but I must have been mistaken…. Hmm

twitter.com/mermaids_gender/status/1309192315467116547?lang=en

I have attached a screen grab of the tweet, but they also say

No child is born in the wrong body ✅

PS LGBA is no more ‘anti trans’ than I am assuming, for example, Trans Lifeline, Trans Radio UK, Be: Trans Support and Community who all only support the T is anti LGB.

In the past far too many trans kids never knew about gender identities and grew up thinking they were LGB although something still felt 'wrong'.

And here we have it!

Perhaps you can tell us then why T has been forced teamed with the LGB?

And while you explain what they have in common in reality, (ie. Except that there is a % of T people who are LBT, just like there is a % of T who are not LGB), could you also explain why if a trans person was LGB why their needs as a LGB person Will not be looked after by LGB Alliance?

There are supporters of LGB Alliance who are trans, so who are you starlee to declare LGB Alliance ‘anti-trans’?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2022 08:57

Wow Starlee You're really here pushing for conversion therapy for LGB children??

Conflictedunicorn · 12/06/2022 09:00

@Starlee are you saying that supporting LGB youth is transphobic? Why? Have you told breast cancer uk that they should also support men with prostate cancer?

Clymene · 12/06/2022 09:03

Did you really just push for conversion therapy for homosexual young people @Starlee?? Good grief

Helleofabore · 12/06/2022 09:16

I did read it as starlee pushing for conversion therapy for young LGB people too.

Maybe they will come back and clarify their simplistic thoughts and hyperbolic statements about ‘anti-T’ and answer the questions put to them.

At least starlee admitted that T people seems to be very different in needs to LGB people. Maybe, just maybe, they will be able to say just why all those letters have to be together otherwise, it is just hate and anti-T.

Circumferences · 12/06/2022 09:30

The threat to trans kids is if a trans kid phones this helpline.... [Hyperbole hyperbole]....

Firstly, why would a trans kid call a specifically LGB helpline, when there are hundreds of T specific support lines and help groups, (who all by the way tell young LGB people that "they're really trans so actually straight" anyway).

Secondly if a T kid does call up, asking about T problems which are very different to LGB problems, they'll likely be politely directed to a helpline to speak with people who have the relevent qualifications. They'll be helped, just like everyone else.

Thirdly, stop spreading fear and lies about LGB people.
