LGB Alliance to plan helpline with Lottery funding

Fantastic news.

I would link to their Twitter announcement, but in usual state of play, Twitter has marked it ' may not be appropriate for people under 18'. A helpline planned for 13 to 25 year olds, planned by a panel of experts in child protection, education, helpline delivery, fundraising and psychology.

Yep - shut them down (much better to have helplines planned by IT workers who took their child to Thailand...)

As LGB Alliance state there is no dedicated national service of its kind for young LGB people in the UK.

I'm sure the Lottery Fund will be getting a lot of feedback right now, given the outpouring of hyperbole against LGB Alliance right now on Twitter.

So they may appreciate feedback from those who may see this as a positive move too:

Suspect I've done more in terms of activism for the LGBT community than you ever have.

You might suspect it but it would be difficult for you to validate that in a meaningful way. And, given some of the posters on this thread, my strong suspicion is that you have no idea of the depth of the inappropriateness of your comparison and self-annointment.

It explicitly said it was no longer able to continue because there were far too few GC members of the LGBT community for them to pay the bills. It was targeting a tiny market

Last couple of responses kind of give the game away - caring about "the community" and even the "letters".

Caring far less about the actual people. Particularly the women. Far easier to talk in abstractions - clichéd ones, at that.

Same sort of problem we saw with the Catholic Church a few times, and indeed many times in history in other organisations and communities. The symbols and the structures being more important. The sort of attitude that leads to wilful blindness and cover-ups.

Every single member of the LGBT community is an actual person 😍

so we now have two supposedly tolerant, inclusive posters from the wonderfully loving community personally attacking posters for not agreeing with them.

Now… wouldn’t it be rather horrific for someone whose sexual orientation is not really being redefined because of the nature of that sexual orientation to be enthusiastically supporting the forceable redefining of other people’s sexual orientation?

I wonder if some posters think about that… at all…

By the way, I am not negating that that sexual orientation hasn’t experienced discrimination and oppression.

Quite a lot of people here seem to believe that a woman cannot be a lesbian if she dates a trans woman. Or a gay man isn't a gay man if he dates a trans man.

This is not the case. No one trades in their gay card by dating a trans person.

I don't know much about celebrities but I did a quick Google of "hot trans man" and I would imagine that a large number of gay men would be very interested in this trans man whether or not he has a vagina.
