True Catherina. I used to love Eddie izzard and “they’re not womens dresses they’re my dresses, I buy them” stance. THAT was widening the bandwidth of what it means to be male

now EI has decided he’s actually woman when he wears a dress “girl mode” not so much…

maybe I've become more aware. Absolutely a possibility.

And just to say that someone who is fatshaming, ableist, transphobic, will not stop at misogyny, so there's that. I think we should not have idols at all. They usually disappoint.

Yes I love his work not him.

heathspeedwell · 24/05/2022 17:00

I don't think he is transphobic.

He's not laughing at trans people.

He's laughing at people who care more about being seen to use preferred pronouns than they care about the danger of women being raped.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 24/05/2022 17:01

I bet his missus is on here!

I bet his missus is on here!

She’s got to be. Some of the horrors in her books have stepped straight out of the comments on here and onto the page Grin

Cleebope2 · 24/05/2022 17:05

Just watched it. His humour is spot on. He has his priorities right.

MagnoliaTaint · 24/05/2022 17:10

Seems to be trending on Twitter, too.

CatherinaJTV · 24/05/2022 15:54

He was fun when he was punching up, then midlife crisis hit (is my interpretation), he lost a lot of weight, and went all fatshaming and ableist. Not funny anymore (and I adored his work before).

That’s one for the big list of “things that didn’t happen.”

Vargas · 24/05/2022 17:10

I find him clever and funny, he makes me laugh like a drain. So glad he's done this. The tide is turning....

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/05/2022 17:31

You don’t even say anything interesting

teaklaxon, catherina, other regulars whose names escapes me they all say things, they engage, they attempt to get people to see their point of view

i don’t necessarily agree with whet they say but at least they say something

seriously….what is the point of you?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/05/2022 17:32

Oh now i look unhinged 😀

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/05/2022 17:33

Those posts were ‘for’ disgusted

MalagaNights · 24/05/2022 17:46

Netflix got ahead of this and told its employees if they object to its content they could leave.

So presumably no crying and walk outs like after Chapelle?

The corporations are catching on who's in the majority.

bellinisurge · 24/05/2022 11:53

I'm not a massive Ricky Gervais fan. And I do find some of his stuff cringe or offensive. Stuff that other people like. So I shrug it off and tune it out. And then there are other bits I like.

His turn about the new Women with beards and cocks was fucking hilarious. And watching people react to it is going to be fun.

According to Twitter, TRAs have allegedly smashed up a park bench over Jervais ‘s humour.

That is interesting.

I wonder if we'll get a reprisal of Repent Motherfucker?

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 18:15

I feel cheered

sweetgrapes · 24/05/2022 18:16

Just watched it... it's funny mostly. Some jokes didn't tickle me.

I think he's poked fun at a very wide population - possibly on purpose. There's many groups of people who could be offended - but only one group which are crying on twitter.

DontLikeCrumpets · 24/05/2022 18:41

@Somanysocks

And for those unable to access twitter: here it is

Artichokeleaves · 24/05/2022 18:50

Honestly struggling to see the problem with what he's saying here - it's exactly what we're told all the time straight from the mouth of SW, in their own words!

If it makes people laugh and isn't great optics when said out loud, the issue would seem to be with the message.
