Supernature is taking absolutely, absolutely no prisoners. I am 7 minutes in with a mojito in hand.

Huge Gervais fan here- 20 years and counting. Thanks for the heads up! Will watch this tonight with a G&T when partner and DD are asleep :)

I like James Acaster too, but I went to see him live one evening and he ranted on and on for over 3 hours so I've gone off him 😂

OpFields · 24/05/2022 15:10

In the future young people will look back on that clip of Gervais like our generation look at Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning.

So you think ' She was raped with her penis' is a reasonable sentence?

This James Acaster clip is good

No, it's not.

No, of course not, that is the whole fucking POINT!!!!

Waitwhat23 · 24/05/2022 15:29

Used to find James Acaster occasionally vaguely funny but went right off after he was on Taskmaster. I presume he was deliberately doing a sort of prick persona but it came across as ridiculously patronising and rude and far too jarring over multiple episodes. My husband particularly disliked how rude he was to Alex Horne - there was never a please or a thank you out of him.

100%

Mandodari · 24/05/2022 15:36

@Waitwhat23
I saw him do a routine about the fact that his jumper was mustard in colour. It was as funny as it sounds.

Abhannmor · 24/05/2022 15:17

Never warmed to Ricky tbh. But he is just the right bloke for this fight. Way too big to cancel and couldn't care less.

That's how I feel Abhannmor

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 15:42

Yes @Abhannmor and @terryleather

And the Twitterati love him - dilemma for them

5oclockhero · 24/05/2022 15:43

This is great. Another Ricky convert here. I'm secretly hoping Martin Freeman will add his support (he's Amanda Abington's ex and worked with Gervais on the Office, and never seems afraid to speak out)

I'm not sure why you are sounding exasperated and sweary at me. It sounded like Opfields was saying Gervais will in the future be regarded the way we see Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning.

Which I was clearly disagreeing with.

I've no idea why either

Assume its just a mistake as it seems very obvious to me what you were saying

Waitwhat23 · 24/05/2022 15:54

Ah, certainly a mistake on my part - I've misread the format. Apologies from me.

CatherinaJTV · 24/05/2022 15:54

He was fun when he was punching up, then midlife crisis hit (is my interpretation), he lost a lot of weight, and went all fatshaming and ableist. Not funny anymore (and I adored his work before).

Yeah, I thought so. Maybe @Waitwhat23 who joined the outrage pile on could come and explain.

MsEverywhere · 24/05/2022 15:57

Thanks @Waitwhat23

What, in your future utopia where any man can identify as a woman just on his say so, where there are no single sex prisons, hospital wards or refuges, where female only sport no longer exists and where children are routinely pumped full of powerful life changing drugs?

That future?

Has he lost that much weight?Confused

His comedy has always been of this nature.

I think he's pretty much put his weight back on.

I love him though.

The Extra's episode with David Bowie was very funny and taking the piss out of himself - The Little Fat Man With The Pugged Nosed Face.

MsEverywhere · 24/05/2022 16:38

Just watched it again. It actually is genius for how much of the thought processes from the TRAs and their useful idiots (Lammy, I am looking at you), he manages to get into just one minute.

That clip is indeed perfect. Right on the nose.

CatherinaJTV · 24/05/2022 16:51

maybe I've become more aware. Absolutely a possibility.

And just to say that someone who is fatshaming, ableist, transphobic, will not stop at misogyny, so there's that. I think we should not have idols at all. They usually disappoint.

MagnoliaTaint · 24/05/2022 16:52

He's not an idol, Catherina. He is a comedian. That is: someone people watch for amusement.
