Supernature is taking absolutely, absolutely no prisoners. I am 7 minutes in with a mojito in hand.

He is clearly knocking the ideology that underpins self id.

He should be perfectly at liberty to do so

CaveMum · 24/05/2022 11:49

He knows. He’s acknowledging all the right people.

It's sooooo good

I think the first gag, calling natal women boring/dinosaurs etc is the best part, because it's something that isn't being explicitly highlighted all that often, and the principal butt of the joke is your hyper-woke Owen Jones type.

It gets less funny once he starts punching down, mocking the male physiques of TW [which, of course, they're all too aware of], and then right at the end gets IMO quite unfunny and probably irresponsible when he repeatedly equates TW in toilets with rape.

Unfunny to you.

Does he? I heard it as mocking the fact that if a woman says she fears for her safety in a mixed sex toilet, rather than address the justifiable root of her fear, she is shouted down for using the wrong pronoun and is called a terf. We know that there have been cases of women being attacked by those saying they are trans yet every time women say opening women's space to some men who believe they are women means opening them to all men, they are decried for their transphobia.

I'm not a massive Ricky Gervais fan. And I do find some of his stuff cringe or offensive. Stuff that other people like. So I shrug it off and tune it out. And then there are other bits I like.

His turn about the new Women with beards and cocks was fucking hilarious. And watching people react to it is going to be fun.

bellinisurge · 24/05/2022 11:57

"He isn't mocking TW for having a male body he is mocking the absolute dogma that this male body is a woman."
Exactly this @fruitbrewhaha . Perhaps if we hadn't cosseted this absurd position that TWAW into some sort of religion, people wouldn't be treating it like it was sacrilege.

Well, on that strong and well informed recommendation I might give it a whirl.

@CaveMum Thanks for posting the clip. Would love to see the whole show, gotta love Ricky G.

Furries · 24/05/2022 12:05

Awesome! That’s my Tuesday night sorted - last episode of Better Call Saul before it’s break, followed by this. Thanks for the heads-up.

HotSauceCommittee · 24/05/2022 11:03

Is this recent?
I know he had a backlash from TRAs a few years ago, but I thought he'd chicken out and made an apology.
I am really hoping this is new material.

iirc there was a sort of apology but worded in a way that meant it actually wasn’t 🤔

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/05/2022 12:13

Yeah because women (blondes, MILs, drivers, wives, feminists, etc.) have never been the butt of men's jokes ... oh, wait!

SirenSays · 24/05/2022 12:21

I don't mind offensive jokes at all, I just don't find Gervais very funny.

MalagaNights · 24/05/2022 12:25

That clip is very funny.
And very clever.

He gets the absurdity, the danger, the authoritian nature, and the ignoring of women all into a few lines.

Musomama1 · 24/05/2022 12:33

Like Bill Haher, another piece of TRA comedy from the 'mainstream'. This movement has absolutely been asking for it. So much material.

RoyalCorgi · 24/05/2022 12:33

Exactly. And they have to paint it as an attack on trans people, or painting trans women as rapists, when of course he's not doing that at all. He's pointing out how ridiculous it is that when women speak about their fears of having men in their toilets, instead of being listened to they're accused of being bigots. The "her penis" phrase is very funny because it captures, as you say, the absurdity, but also the authoritarianism and the self-righteousness of it. How many times have I seen "her penis" used in newspaper reports of sex offenders?

Of course his critics won't address that, either because they don't understand the point or, more probably, because they pretend not to understand it.

Yep. More power to Ricky G 🍻

Roseglen84 · 24/05/2022 12:36

Thanks, I will check this out later.

Each to their own. I can't understand why anyone finds James Acaster, Josie Long or Frank Norcott even vaguely amusing. Luckily we live in a free world where we can avoid watching people we don't find entertaining.

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/05/2022 12:39

Took me a minute to figure out what you meant by “dropped”! Thought it was dropped from the network as in cancelled!

o/t but hate the term. People should be more careful 😂. All this stuff dropping, hope they’re insured for accidental breakage 🤔

oh well if it hasn’t been cancelled I’ll give it a watch.

CatherinaJTV · 24/05/2022 12:40

he's been sh*t for a while - all he's got left is being "crass". He used to be cleverer than that.

CorneliusVetch · 24/05/2022 12:43

Exactly this. In that sketch, when a woman expresses a fear for her safety, that is completely dismissed in favour of ensuring the right pronouns. Sadly that all too accurately reflects the wider discourse in society.

GoingOnce · 24/05/2022 12:43

Loved the part early on about how you can never predict what you’ll be “cancelled” for ten years down the road, that nobody guessed you could be cancelled for saying women don’t have penises!

SergeiL · 24/05/2022 12:44

I think he is very clever. Can’t wait to watch this.

And AfterLife is just bloody brilliant.

magicstar1 · 24/05/2022 12:44

I saw this show back in April...it'd been postponed from 2020. Absolutely hilarious, and I love that he just doesn't kowtow to anyone.
