I doubt he will face any consequences. Unfortunately.

tabbycatstripy · 13/04/2022 10:36

I was just thinking about little OJ and how he used to be a serious columnist. How the mighty have fallen.

teawamutu · 13/04/2022 10:39

Interesting to know that the Grauniad was concerned enough to actually do something about his conduct, although I seriously doubt he'll face any consequences.

veronicagoldberg · 13/04/2022 10:40

Disgusting little misogynist.

PronounssheRa · 13/04/2022 10:40

News that will shock absolutely no-one......

LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2022 10:40

I’ve just seen this and I’m so angry. That little creep is a bully, gaslighter and liar and the management at the Guardian have allowed this to carry on!! I hope he’s now suspended/sacked.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2022 10:41

Odious little twerp

Slothtoes · 13/04/2022 10:43

Well they could have saved their money and just read his public Twitter account to know all that, but whatever.
What are the Guardian going to do now?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 13/04/2022 10:48

Like Bercow and Patel, when do any of these people face consequences for their behaviour?

ChristinaXYZ · 13/04/2022 10:50

Getting a report is not really doing anything about it though is it? As you say - where are the actually consequences? Where's the apology, the contrition, the change in behaviour?

So now what happens?

He's got another article in it today, grifting away. Is he just going to arse lick the Americans now?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/04/2022 10:53

Day after day I'm reminded why it was such a positive act in cancelling my paid for Guardian subscription

Rodedooda · 13/04/2022 10:57

Nasty misogynist

Seriously though, what is his agenda?

Electrox · 13/04/2022 10:59

About time he was called out on his misogyny.

Grantanow · 13/04/2022 11:00

Sack him!

WinterTrees · 13/04/2022 11:01

At least his reputation is officially trashed now.

Everyone has known for ages that he's an odious little misogynist troll but he was able to maintain the charade of being a journalist. The Guardian are tainted by their association with someone who is, by their own admission, offensive, intimidating and a bully.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 13/04/2022 11:03

Gets popcorn for how he is going to wriggle out of this one on Twitter.

He is such an unpleasant little man. His stupid furrowed brow, the faux incredulous/puzzled look when talking about any view that he is not 100% on board with, the air of superiority that comes with everything. And I'm sure he enjoys deliberately pronouncing JKRs name wrong.

Prick Grin

ResisterRex · 13/04/2022 11:04

A report so secret that the complainant doesn't know "what, if any" sanctions would be imposed. And most of the Graun's upper management are in the dark as well.

Private Eye calls him a writer, not a journalist.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 13/04/2022 11:06

I think he is definitely going to do a Hopkins/Farage and set his sights on America. Who will be his natural contemporaries there though....Vaush?!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 13/04/2022 11:08

In shock news, man who doesn’t like women is mean to women.

I used to love The Guardian: now it’s on my list with Oxfam.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 13/04/2022 11:08

@Electrox

I may be wrong but I assume the more recent case might have Sonia Sodha at the heart of it in which case this highlights rather spectacularly why Owen Jones should not be leading/hosting/affiliated with any EDI/D&I event.
hamstersarse · 13/04/2022 11:08

He is a massive prick and none of this is surprising but......I am against cancel culture in general and even Owen Jones doesn't deserve to be completely and utterly trashed in every way possible.

Yes, he may lose his job, but only if he has broken specific rules of employment, not just because some mob comes after him

SolasAnla · 13/04/2022 11:12

The reason independently verifiable investigations take place is that management expect litigation. Its classic cover the bank balance defensive taticts. Failure to act after facts are proven increese the contingent liability if sued for bullying in the workplace. Acting to discipline an employee is easier and it helps build a strong defence if the employee is subsequently dismissed for cause.
Rightsraptor · 13/04/2022 11:14

At least this is now publicly acknowledged and might impact on his career. I'll lay reasonable money on him clearing off to the US one day soon. In which case, I'll lock the door behind him.

tabbycatstripy · 13/04/2022 11:16

‘I am against cancel culture in general and even Owen Jones doesn't deserve to be completely and utterly trashed in every way possible.’

Being sacked isn’t being cancelled. I’m not sure whether he should sacked or not, but employers can’t let some staff bully other staff without following their processes.

Cancellations happen when due process isn’t followed. People just quietly lose contracts, no investigation happens, they receive no explanation. People distance themselves despite the fact that the person is telling the truth or hasn’t done anything wrong.
