This is in today's paper and states again that Dept for Education is working on the guidelines.

8 in 10 teachers say their secondary school has trans pupils

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/f2a3bcfe-b906-11ec-94e5-2197dead5942?shareToken=429e243ebe8065bf8d9d275c535357a9

"Asked what they thought had contributed to students’ altered identity, approximately 60 per cent of secondary school teachers cited there being trans or non-binary celebrities in the media. About 80 per cent said their school would refer to a pupil by their chosen name and pronouns if asked by a trans or non-binary student and their parent."

And

"A spokesman for the Department for Education said yesterday: “We recognise that gender identity can be a complex and sensitive topic for schools to navigate.

“We know many teachers are having these important conversations with their pupils, including through the relationship, sex and health education curriculum which is designed to foster respect for others in a way that respects everyone’s views.

“We will be working with the Equalities and Human Rights Commission as we consider our next steps for supporting schools in this area.”"

Walksen:

I have no doubt that many teachers are trying to navigate this difficult area with sensitivity and honesty.

But if a child told you they were ‘trans’, that they were dysphoric, or that they were wearing a binder or trying to access puberty blockers or sex-change drugs without their parents knowing, would you agree with their school withholding that information from a parent, or not?

tabbycatstripy · 11/04/2022 12:24

Also, what public figures do you hold up as role models? Who do you name to the children as “trans”?

OldCrone · 11/04/2022 12:24

I don't recognise that from any lessons I've taught on the issue or training I've been to.

So because you've never taught this you are certain that this is not taught by any other teachers in any schools anywhere?

Have you never come across the 'genderbread person' or the 'gender unicorn', used by some schools to teach children about 'gender identity'?

@walksen

"And really does indicate a lack of deeper understanding of just what is happening here."

People are quite wrong to say activist teachers are promoting transgenderism. Schools are generally promoting inclusion and tolerance of other's differences. The average classroom teacher is not promoting or pushing any specific lifestyle or life choices but truing to raisin awareness of these issues, particularly in response to bullying incidents.

Most counselling etc are pastoral teams a d safeguarding trans are highly trained, involved in multi agency discussions and have to read guidance reports on the issues etc.

It is disturbing on here to see posters on this thread describing schools are cults apparently full of activists, manipulating mentally ill teenage girls, whilst apparently concealing this from their parents.

Section 28 banned discussions of homosexuality which was enormously harmful to gay people and allowed homophobic attitudes to flourish. Even if you believes y pupils identifying as trans are in some sort of mental health crisis and will change their minds in the future the fact remains that some pupils may be trans and we should not demonise their choices, or ignore it like some dirty little secret.

You might have noticed that schools are severely under resourced and under funded and for most pupils mental health support by outside agencies is almost non existent for most. The conspiracy theories posted on this thread are absurd and offensive.

Just to point out that you have used my statement completely out of context. And I have not in anyway indicated any conspiracy theory.

In fact, I have been clear in relating my personal experiences with a group of tween to teen students.

I also happen to know that my teen's school does not 'promote' transgenderism. And they are excellent on 'inclusion and tolerance of other's differences'.

However, in this instance, they have also changed student records without parental consent for children who were aged between 13-14. If you look back at my posts, you will also see I stated that by making these changes without parental consent, they have indeed enabled more mental health issues in girls that have significant mental health issues by having 'a secret' kept from their families.

Even if you believes y pupils identifying as trans are in some sort of mental health crisis and will change their minds in the future the fact remains that some pupils may be trans and we should not demonise their choices, or ignore it like some dirty little secret.

I have not seen one poster who has stated that trans people should be ignored like some dirty little secret. If they have, please point to their posts so we can see how we missed it.

If you choose to ignore the degree of poor mental health that is being experienced by girls in particular and the ramifications of that poor mental health, that really does show that you lack that deeper understanding that my statement referred to.

This is not like 'section 28' and by now there are enough posts that clearly state why it is not.

Helleofabore · 11/04/2022 12:37

@walksen

Then stop?

Not going to happen unless this forum is shut down though is it? Far too many posters are too far down the rabbit hole, hysterically parroting this rubbish who need to get a grip.

There are parents on this very thread who have direct experiences and are relaying those experiences.

Are you labelling them as 'too far down the rabbit hole, hysterically parroting this rubbish who need to get a grip'?

Helleofabore · 11/04/2022 12:43

that they were wearing a binder

And remember, we have had at least two or three PE teachers on various threads who have stated that girls are self-excluding from their classes on sport and PE due to their binders.

I also question just how many parents know their daughter is wearing a binder. Out of my teen's group, two of the five got them delivered to friends houses so their parents would not find out.

This ain't no conspiracy theory. This is the real life that many of us are dealing with each day.

tabbycatstripy · 11/04/2022 12:50

The internet has a lot to answer for. Schools should be helping, not covering up risk factors to children.

yes teaching of gender identity as if it's a fact rather than an opinion is a thing

"There are parents on this very thread who have direct experiences and are relaying those experiences"

Plenty of people have their experiences minimised, ignored and minimised on Mumsnet, then accused of hysteria. Myself included.

I've direct experiences of parents hysterically emailing school complaining their child is a carer and their life is bring put at risk due to a detention and Ravi g at senior management and governors the school is trying to kill them so I've direct experience of parents manipulating events to suit their narrative or being rather one sided when relaying events to others.

Anyone who posts on here that school activists are conspiring to exploit mental illness to turn their daughters into transmen is being hysterical. That's my opinion but then no knows anyone else's background on here, nor the veracity of "facts" posted by anyone else.

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/04/2022 13:08

walken

My 10 ( now 11 yr old) came home talking about operations to change sex. Amd worried she'd have to change in front of boys.

Don't you dare call us all liars

Some parents are deeply unreasonable.

Let me ask again: do you think it’s reasonable for schools to conceal from parents that their children believe they are the opposite sex, are trying to change sex, are changing names or pronouns, have gender dysphoria, are wearing binders or ‘tucking’, are seeking out puberty blockers or sex hormones?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 11/04/2022 13:12

by the way, until I complained, that slide that says 'there is clearly more than one sex' ?

used to say 'there are clearly more than 2 sexes'

for fuck's sake

Norma27 · 11/04/2022 13:16

What a bunch of saddos MnHQ are. What on earth deserved deleting in my post. Just because men don’t like the truth. Absolute idiots.

And rather than respond to the instances mentioned on this thread, you are now what... putting them in the same basket as a parent who is hugely overly reliant on their child and that parent may be manipulative and abusive.

I notice that there is absolutely no acknowledgement of the poor mental health experienced by the current cohort of secondary school girls. Just a whole lot of distractive techniques away from addressing the issues raised.

And again, the denigration of parents who have genuine concerns about this. Hysterical, conspiracy theorists, and potentially liars as well.

Same old, same old. Please do keep posting in this style walksen, it is a live example of the tactics used by activists all the time on these threads.

walksen · 11/04/2022 13:23

"operations to change sex"

Well I don't believe that's what her teacher told her because I am sure you are aware you cannot have an operation to change sex. Do you honestly believe her teacher was implying/ encouraging her to get change in front of Boys?

And is about pointless getting indignant/threating on an internet forum.

rogdmum · 11/04/2022 13:23

Here’s new guidance from Sex Matters and TransgenderTrend. Quotes the interim Cass review extensively and makes the same safeguarding points as many posters here have done this morning.

' "transition" from male to female'

direct quote from the teaching materials I have linked to which are recommended by Hampshire county council

what is transitioning from male to female if not changing sex?

I think you need to read my post more carefully.

I notice there is no acknowledgment that schools are far too busy dealing with these issues and pandemic fallout to take part in such a grand conspiracy? Who is leading it? Bill gates?

tabbycatstripy · 11/04/2022 13:32

Walksen

If you’re a teacher, you are one of the reasons people are concerned. This bad faith engagement just makes parents skeptical that we can trust you with our children.

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/04/2022 13:33

You really have no idea what's going on do you?

I was lucky with my dd she also said "my body is perfect as it is isn't it mum "

But I dread to think what other kids thought. Especially at 10 as that's a time alot are well into puberty.

walksen · 11/04/2022 13:36

"can you not see me or something"

Of course I can't see you you are posting on an internet forum FFS.

I think you need to read the material you posted more carefully. In particular educate yourself on the differenc between sex and gender. You are posting on the feminism board after all.

Don't you dare call us all liars

The parents on here have been addressing this issue for the last five or six years, or more.

Quite apart from the direct experience of women on this thread, places like Mermaids and Allsorts are completely upfront about the lesson plans they take into schools. From the Genderbread Man, to the gender spectrum of Barbie to GI Joe. Their teaching aids are all over the Internet. It's not exactly a secret.

So much so, that the DfE have had to insist that all lessons of this nature must be evidenced based, and that children displaying stereotypical behaviour of the opposite sex must not be affirmed as trans, or having a gender identity.

Christ, the teaching from Gires, or gendered intelligence, I can't remember which, actually suggested that transitioning cured autism.

Where do you think all the gender neutral toilets in schools have come from? Advice and guidance from Stonewall. In direct breach of the equality act.

And telling children that one will keep their secrets is a direct breach of safeguarding protocols.

It is never acceptable.

May I suggest you look at the links that people are providing, in order that you can better understand the situation.

AgnesNaismith · 11/04/2022 13:38

It isn’t just the trans child affected in these instances either. My dd’s class were given a 1hr talk last week as there is a transitioning child coming back to school after a period off. From dds description the young girl is autistic and has been very much captured.

The children were told to be kind, to refer to the child as ‘she’ now and to collude in a material lie. It’s utter gaslighting, TRA by stealth if you like! Of course they will anyway but they have no choice? Interestingly the girl had a specific interest in a subject at school being taught by a transwoman. This particular teacher spent an entire lesson showing the children an LGBT website earlier in the term. Encouragement and affirmation at every stage with no room - no…punishment for anyone who questions. Something has to change.

Everyone is a loser, the most awful consequences obviously for the trans child who will at worst be a lifelong patient and at best suffer serious mental health issues.

AgnesNaismith · 11/04/2022 13:39

Sorry - to refer to the child as ‘he’ now
