Have been looking through the pics of the conversion therapy protests. For a movement who is so keen to appropriate race struggles and tag onto the black lives matter movement, its just a sea of white faces at that protest.

Also, a movement who scrap around in the dirt for any morsel of shit that they think might stick, apparently have no issue literally cheering on Peter Tatchell, who surely by anyone's standards is.....problematic Confused

They’re too thick to understand that the ban would harm trans people. Why would she march for something that was harmful to trans people, especially children with dysphoria?

Not to mention banning what they call "trans conversion therapy" is actually potentially creating gay conversion therapy in a different guise

Pissing myself

I have to say, I often be arsed to engage in the Twitter wars over this issue, but on this occasion, with transactivists absolutely imploding with rage and jealousy, it's fair warming the cockles of my viper heart.

RoyalCorgi · 12/04/2022 11:11

The Craig Murray tweet is astonishing. What point is he making? That women shouldn't have expensive mobile phones? It's completely incoherent.

MsGoodenough · 12/04/2022 11:17

The pictures of the lunch made me so happy. The reaction on twitter is bonkers. Reminds me of the adaptation of the Germaine Greer quote 'most women have no idea how much men hate them... except that now we have the Internet we can see it'

Slothtoes · 12/04/2022 11:20

Absolutely agree this is existential. It’s about subjective ‘truths’/beliefs vs reality, authoritarianism, freedom of speech, democracy, trust in medical culture, trust in governments, justice, it touches on all kinds of huge areas of life. I hope philosophy can help me get my head around it.

Or drink wine apparently

He's not making a point. He's just angry with women having any agency at all.
ShirleyPhallus · 12/04/2022 11:33

Twitter is off the hook with outrage at the outrage at lunch today, I’m actually very pleased with it

Some good lol worthy comments on here too!

Quite.

The service humans are not to have agency or quality of life. They're not to realise their personal or political power in case it enables them to raise all women because if they raise all women there must, somehow, be a decrement to the served class that in their perception outweighs the social/political/civic/educational etc. benefits.

Believerinbiology · 12/04/2022 11:37

The male entitlement is huge...so a man who pays for sex, bought a 'mistress' who later became his second wife, regularly is paid to attend lavish events held by very dubious regimes is criticizing a women who has given millions to charity for having lunch with friends. Right

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/04/2022 11:40

Genderologist Professor Alison Phipps, who I see has recently left the University of Sussex and is not at Newcastle, bafflingly claimed that they all looked miserable. That may not be verbatim as she's protected her tweets now and I can't remember the exact wording, but she got some cracking responses to that. 'Should have gone to Specsavers' would have been mine if I'd got in in time.

We should shut up and check our privilege. We don't need legally protected rights when we have wine and smart phones?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/04/2022 11:41

Now! Not not. Sigh.

flipandflop · 12/04/2022 11:46

I loved the photos, but I wonder how those who were left out felt? Posie Parker has kept this going through sheer bloody-mindindness. But she seems to be the wrong sort of Feminist for some people.
And Graham Lineham, who has sacrificed his career to the cause.

There's a horrible photoshopped image going around twitter of Graham Linehan and Helen Staniland staring through the window looking like two Tiny Tims at everyone having their lunch.

Amazing how women having lunch and a glass of wine is inducing tears and fury in others.

Sensitive lot aren't they these Mens rights activist!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 12/04/2022 11:50

Criticising women consuming champagne, owning phones, the venue, the guest list…

Can we accept that in the same way that it's the B&G's wedding and they get to set the invitation list and other items, it's up to JKR whom she invites (and we don't know who was invited but unable to attend on the day) and what they have at that lunch and how they memorialise it?

And it's not just friends, I think that's the point. It's women who defend other women and promote their rights.

Some men can't stand it. It literally frightens them. They might lose their grip on some of that power.

They have to discredit the wims, double quick.

But it’s really weird, as it looks like a completely normal private room at a conference venue or something?! It’s hardly like they’re dining at a Michelin * restaurant or something, there’s even a projector in some of the shots.
Floisme · 12/04/2022 12:01

If this had been a public event then I think it might be reasonable to critique who was invited. But, as far as I'm aware, it was a private lunch which we only got to hear about because some of the guests published photos on their personal social media accounts. I don't think it's any more reasonable to challenge the guest list than it would be to challenge who I invite to my retirement do.

LittleWhingingWoman · 12/04/2022 12:12

I'm outraged that I wasn't invited to this lunch and I am going to photoshop myself into the pictures dressed as a middle aged woman.

BunnyBerries · 12/04/2022 12:21

Just your everyday, run-of-the-mill, lunchtime snack & reading materials.

Wish I was at this lunch
