Ooh a "gender studies" student called Miranda has rolled in with the "but intersex" argument!

I think a number of listeners will still be scratching their heads and trying to work out who's who in the Grace marriage.

NeverEverUnreasonable · 07/04/2022 10:47

You can see why so many midwit students fall for this crap.

I think Miranda needs to study gender a bit harder if Miranda thinks Casta Semenya is a 'cisgender woman' 😮

Charley50 · 07/04/2022 10:49

Why didn't EB state that women's spaces are needed because although we are the majority (just), we are oppressed because of our biology. And we can't identify out of our biology. This is a statement of fact.

DomesticatedZombie · 07/04/2022 10:49

I'm off out but will transcribe later. I only wish there was a way to add accent and intonation to typed words, though, because it really adds to the experience.

WinterTrees · 07/04/2022 10:50

A lot of comments on the WH tweet about this

I managed to listen to Grace's Garbage and my radio was not thrown out of the window.

Grace seems to have been led to believe that Grace would encounter a lot of protest in UK. This has not happened and so Grace's conclusion is that there are not many GC people around after all.

Maybe, just maybe, we have better ways of fighting & can't actually be bothered with pandering to Grace's narcissism. Just a thought.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 07/04/2022 10:51

I'm listening on catch-up, so behind the rest of you, but GL really annoyed me in the first two minutes with the attempted pedantry about what it means to ask if a woman 'can' have a penis. Professor of English and critical theory doesn't know the difference between 'can' and 'may'.

And it's going downhill from there.

This was one of the comments on the twitter thread

Lavery says they have not met with opposition in the UK. Friends of mine who went to their live talk said it was so nonsensical and narcissistic, also mind numbingly boring, that they couldn’t be bothered to raise any serious questions

Why did she read that out? Confusing the issue yet again!
DomesticatedZombie · 07/04/2022 10:55

incomprehensible bollocks and a smattering of regicide

Phobiaphobic · 07/04/2022 10:56

@NecessaryScene

I do love the fundamental conflict between Denton's very sane and considered "stay out of the spotlight" guidance and the irrepressible narcissism of those for whom the guidance was intended. Grin

Poor Dentons. They tried.

Brilliant. I was thinking something similar the other day, about trans activists always pushing things to the point where no sane person agrees with them, and how that was driven by attention-seeking and narcissism. They truly are their own worst enemies.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/04/2022 10:56

I've got to the bit about course evaluations and about how Lavery is experiencing a change from being called 'intelligent' to 'caring' and I am seething. Grace chose this - I live a life where men in academia are allowed to be selfish and to look after their best interests but if a woman dares privilege this over 'caring' they are fucked in the evaluations but of course, being 'caring' means they get all the 'caring' jobs thus leaving less time to do all the career-enhancing things.

This. is. my. life. and. my. oppression.

For me, it is not a costume.

I can't listen anymore.

I'm too angry.

Mumsnut · 07/04/2022 10:57

'Word salad' is too kind a description.

Word porridge, maybe?

tabbycatstripy · 07/04/2022 10:58

What confuses me (or one of the things that does) is that GL says any physiological definition of the organically occurring group “female” is patriarchal, but also insists that GL has transitioned into that physiological group (thus expanding the definition, but still insisting it is a group that can be defined).

Why? Why is one definition “patriarchal” but the other isn’t?

Of course, Grace finds it 'deeply affirming' to be 'treated like shit'. Just reposting this picture.

“incomprehensible bollocks and a smattering of regicide”

Grin Also liked.

“The French Revolution, right...”

Did GLavery just threaten the Queen on British soil?

Never mind. I think Mi5 is captured.

CaveMum · 07/04/2022 11:01

Disappointing that they didn't read out more listener comments at the end of the programme, I suspect they were inundated!

I only saw one supportive comment on the twitter thread, and that was of the generic 'so inspiring' kind (suggesting the tweeter hadn't listened to the interview) so maybe Emma didn't feel she could provide the required BBC balance Grin
Artichokeleaves · 07/04/2022 11:05

It's been said from the start on FWR: all we ever had to do was get past no debate.

After that, all we have to do is let people like Grace make the case out loud and wait for everyone else to get the full picture.
