Oh I caught the end of this interview quite by chance.
What a nasty small-minded self-obsessed GL is.
Hoisted by the petard of their own irrelevance.

BTW secondary sexual characteristics - any thing new (hairy &/or fleshy) that appears at puberty, y’know the onset of hormones that progress a human child into a human adult.

WinterTrees · 07/04/2022 12:24

nightwakingmoon Your experience is all too easy to believe, having listened to that interview this morning. How unutterably depressing and disillusioning. I'm so sorry.

Trampitt · 07/04/2022 12:25

@CaveMum

For those asking for a link to the show it's still not currently available.
Yes annoying!

Thanks for the definition.

@nightwakingmoon thanks for the insight. I suspected as much. It is utterly depressing. Hopefully though, the WH interview will have allowed the listeners to see some of that entitled sexist attitude for themselves.

Aw thank you @WinterTrees! It’s just a depressing facet of life in academia, unfortunately. When I was first starting out I think it didn’t bother me so much, because it was the brave new millennium, and I assumed all of that would change as the old male dinosaurs of the discipline/institution retired and we’d see a new dawn of sorts. Now twenty years on it’s almost worse! I failed to realise that when the old dinosaurs retired they would get instantly replaced by young mediocre men instead. Now all of this genderist bollocks has appeared too. It’s exhausting! Listening to GL’s undergraduate-style posturing is enraging but just oh-so-familiar. Gah.
CrossPurposes · 07/04/2022 12:35

@LittleSnakes Daniel used to be Mallory Ortberg. There is a Wikipedia page.

oakleaffy · 07/04/2022 12:35

@Sunflower987

The hot tub part was just plain strange, and wanting the queen to die. Confused It thought it just sounded like rambling to be honest. Not worth listening to.
What a load of utter gobbledegook spewed out of this person's mouth. ''Opening a book with their penis?''... That was what I heard, first of all, then the phone rang, and I missed the rest of the narcissistic ramblings.

Why are our License fees {UK at least} paying for such utter garbage interviews?

Thoosa · 07/04/2022 12:36

@MidsomerMurmurs

I think it would be a good thing if Emma asked Lavery about the part in Lavery’s book that says Lavery’s penis felt “as though I were laying my own miscarried foetus across my hand”.
OMG. I feel ill.
flyingbuttress43 · 07/04/2022 12:39

I think it's safe to say that Grace shot themselves in the penis there.

AtrociousCircumstance · 07/04/2022 12:42

This person is the embodiment of oppressive patriarchy in action - intruding upon women’s spaces purely because they feel entitled to. Insisting that they know best, as a man, about what defines a woman.

Toxic patriarchy and unfettered narcissism from Grace Lavery.

Monitaurus · 07/04/2022 12:45

Please don’t waste your time transcribing any more of this utter drivel, now that it is available on sounds. We have heard only too well what irrelevant nonsense GL utters. I just wish EB had cut it short, though I understand the reason why she chose not to.

YesSheCan · 07/04/2022 12:47

@Signalbox thanks for the transcript. Flipping heck, the semantic wankery! The average person on the street, whoever that is, when asked the question 'can a woman have a penis?' is not going to interpret that as 'is a woman allowed to have a penis if she asks for one?' In the unlikely event that anyone would interpret the question as such, perhaps it could be rephrased as 'does any woman have a penis?' But then GL might argue that this might be interpreted as 'hey, does anyone have a penis?' in the same way that one might ask if anyone has a tissue. And if the question was 'do some women have penises?' cleverclogs Grace might say, well how many penises do you mean?

FFS, we all know what the question 'can a woman have a penis?' means. And the answer is no.

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/04/2022 12:47

GL's husband has a wiki entry. GL doesn't. I'm sure that doesn't grate at all ...

That is absolutely grotesque. Lavery is taking the absolute piss out of Women.
