Good. Ban needs to be on any competitor who has undergone male puberty though.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/03/2022 19:34

It will be fascinating to see the actual reasons that forbid Emily from competing as a man one week and then as a woman the next?

No doubt a cue for much wailing about transphobes stopping Emily competing as a man one week and a woman the next. Hmm

Nope, that still leave a loophole.

It's quite simple, males shouldn't compete in female sports categories.

Justkeeppedaling · 30/03/2022 19:41

Good.

Yes. Exactly that.

ilovebencooper · 30/03/2022 19:44

Yes!!!!! Brilliant news. Let's hope British cycling gets its act together re trans inclusion before the next one though....

Letterasaurus · 30/03/2022 19:44

Good. Just as it should be.

BorisBooster · 30/03/2022 19:45

I'm not sure that many sports will be on the phone first thing tomorrow to join them in their cause !

No doubt a cue for much wailing about transphobes stopping Emily competing as a man one week and a woman the next. Hmm

The reason given by the article is that the current rules say she has to have below a specific level of testosterone for the twelve months prior to the event, which is not currently the case.

Next year it'll be a different matter.

I don't think they will.

A very ill thought out statement from them tonight.

Why dont they work with the female sporti g community. You know, the group of peopld that are negatively affected by allowing males with supposedly female brains to participate

drum123 · 30/03/2022 19:49

Welcome news, and the statement from British Cycling seems sensible (although the proof of the pudding and all that!). However, why do they only talk about fairness with regard to elite athletes? All levels of sport should be fair.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2022 19:50

Good news. I imagine it won't be a popular decision.

Clymene · 30/03/2022 19:52

Women shouldn't be competing against men at all levels of sport.

Emily is perfectly happy to compete in the men's team and that's where Emily belongs.

As do Lia, Lauren, CeCe, Veronica and all the rest.

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 19:53

Good.

There is nothing undignified about a transwoman competing in the male sex class. I would have every respect for Emily Bridges if this happened.

OvaHere · 30/03/2022 19:58

Obviously I'm pleased about this but I don't know if we should call it a victory as such. Bridges and BC were found to have broken their own rules about eligibility. This is why UCI stepped in.

This doesn't mean Bridges won't get all the details in a row and return later in the year or next year.

Rules were broken but the rules allowing men to compete as women still stand as far as I can tell, Bridges and BC will just have to get their house in order next time.

The lack of contrition or remorse for what they are doing to female cyclists is absent from the statement nor is there any mention of women being included in this coalition. This leads me to conclude that unfairness to female cyclists wasn't really a factor in what happened here.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2022 19:58

As Clymene said, Emily is perfectly happy to compete in men's competitions when it suits.

Dinosauria · 30/03/2022 19:58

If Emily competes in the men's class I shall be cheering her on. Competing in the men's field will challenge society far more than beating women.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 30/03/2022 19:59

I’m pleased but all of this could have been avoided

Maybe EB could reconsider and race with men whilst being gender non conforming. I’d applaud that everyday of the week

Yes definitely Ova. EB isn’t out because British cycling realised they’re being unfair, they’re out because Eb didn’t follow the rules allowing them to compete

EB will just wait until they’ve completed what’s required & then race. It’s still ludicrously unfair
