MP comes out as transgender

A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

Cheating on his wife and rape are different matters. Nothing ‘mitigates’ the perpetrator’s status or the seriousness of the crime. No one deserves rape by dint of risk. We really need to protect this position.

But alongside that we are allowed an opinion on the integrity of cheaters, and have a right to know what businesses our representatives run.

How long before he resigns due to hateful transphobia?

Home I agree. I assume personal integrity or moral choices and business interests, ethics and decisions will often follow a similar trajectory. I don’t want any of that in elected office thanks.

My ex had gay hookups. Apparently they weren't gay hookups because he is a straight woman now. He also used that as an excuse for being an abusive arsehole to me and the kids because he wasn't living as his authentic self.

These things are often experienced by trans widows, unfortunately.

I don't think he will resign due to transphobia of any kind given what a warm embrace he has had from all political parties across the board, and the media coverage has been wall to wall positivity given he runs a pimp racket and was involved in a hit and run, none of those sordid details have surfaced just yet.

Given Jamie is not even sure he is trans after all, and still wants to be known as he/him it is not a given he will become a her/they etc anyway.
Personally I feel he probably needs time out to process, it is overwhelming to be dealing with rape, court cases, PTSD, hit and run car crash and now gender confusion. In his place I would want some space to process and get some help away from the public eye.

It is funny seeing many of the Labour supporting TRAs struggling with their immediate hatred of any Tory-identified individuals and their immediate love of any trans-identified individuals.

I'm of the opinion that all politicians are dodgy regardless of party. But this one seems to be a lot worse!

Although Wallis appears to have airbrushed his wife and family from his history, despite mentioning them when standing for public office, I shouldn't have provided the (publicly available) proof.

She may, very understandably, no longer wish to be associated with him.

Don't be daft. You can just google him and you get her name and the fact that there are two kids.
And as Bore points out, he was happy to mention them himself when campaigning for office. Cake and eat it.

Imo some people may not have been posting in good faith eg people who join post (from the church of gender etc.) to create proof for twitter that MN is a bad place which everyone should be very cross with.
