A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

@nauticant

Well, there was evidence given in the Maya Forstater Employment Tribunal that the think tank where she worked has as a policy that if someone sincerely believes they're "trans race" then that's what they are, and this has to be validated.

There are people out there who claim the same about "trans species".

Was that evidence given for Maya's defence?

Jamie Wallis has potential to be the Danielle Muscato of the House of Commons.

For those not familiar with Muscato, here's Magdalen Berns being amused at another transwoman's indignation about Muscato - "But in this case, this person has been out for the past 2 years and still hasn't started to transition." - "Yeah, I think we've all established that Danielle Muscato's a troll."

Although we should note that Danielle Muscato was claiming to be a transwoman, rather than just trans.

But then Muscato was doing it in 2016, and it's now 2022. We're more advanced and enlightened. We now know you don't have to be trans-anything-in-particular.

It came out in cross-examination of witnesses giving evidence for the think tank CGD. Maya Forstater's barrister Ben Cooper didn't pursue it much, probably because it was so bonkers it would have caused confusion and would have messed up an attempt at a rational cross-examination.

And I think Luke Easley was prepared to die on the hill of self identity, wasn't he?

Datun · 31/03/2022 11:33

I watched PMQs yesterday. It was agreed on all sides that he deserves sympathy and praise for his authenticity -- for being and proclaiming his true self.

It's difficult to believe how out of touch they can be.

They clearly, I hope to God, do not actually believe it. So they think that it's a vote winner.

How they can think that is beyond me. Can't they read? Look at mainstream media and the BTL comments.

I mean, when transactivists themselves are busy expressing doubts maybe it's time to have a rethink.

Turningpurple · 31/03/2022 11:41

So when did married MPs having hook ups with people outside their marriage become acceptable?

He absolutely should not have been raped. But how is non of the press picking up on 'married MP admits to arranging gay hook ups'.

When I saw how far down the news sites were dropping this story, I expected that today was going to bring some backlash. Media, MPs, celebrities, twitter folk all rushing to say how stunning and brave he is, seem not to have considered who he actually is.

Though, I have realised I am also trans. I can't say I 'feel' like my gender or my sex. I don't understand the concept. I just feel like me. So if I don't have an innate feeling of being a woman.....or a man. Am I non binary and therefore trans. Even if I keep my appearance exactly as it is?

SucculentChalice · 31/03/2022 11:48

I'm currently banned from taking part in certain local events in a certain way in Scotland or accessing certain golf clubs because they are men only. Now the new Hate Crime legislation won't protect me because it doesn't include sex as a protected category but it does include trans.

So if I really want to take part in one of these activities, does that mean I identify as a trans man (on the basis that the state permits them to be men only despite other legislation dictating otherwise), but where those circumstances apply only?

What happens if I then get turned down because the organisers don't believe me?

SucculentChalice · 31/03/2022 11:50

I might also add that the new Scottish legislation on this might already be out of date, because it requires a person to self id only once and then stick to their chosen gender. Which appears to be not only a breach of a person's human rights but to also exclude people like this particular MP.

nauticant · 31/03/2022 11:50

To be non binary and/or trans you have to sincerely believe you are non binary and/or trans. You don't need anything more, you don't have to do anything, but that's the essential core.

Slothtoes · 31/03/2022 11:51

Yup the trans umbrella covers that. It covers everyone who wants in. Acceptance without exception is Stonewall’s catchphrase.
And in the same vein, what can the Tories possibly say about any MPs’ personal morality sleaze, with Boris in charge? He’s massively sleazy. Affairs in office are AOK. Clearly. Johnson lived in Downing St with his affair partner while still married. Married Matt Hancock resigned only because he broke covid rules. Not because of his affair.

Running some kind of exploitative website though, I hope the party do comment on but obviously that has been a thing they’ve known about before. I won’t hold my breath. Because it didn’t stop Wallis being selected or elected. So we get what we vote for.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 12:06

Is he married?

nauticant · 31/03/2022 12:10

There are media reports that he was in the past, his current status is not clear from what I've seen.

ArcheryAnnie · 31/03/2022 12:17

@tabbycatstripy

Is he married?
He's apparently married with two small children.
tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 12:24

Not a single word in the media about his cheating, not a word on his Wikipedia page about his poor wife. Not a word about who blackmailed him or what the ‘pictures’ actually depicted.

He’s a sleazy cheat. Hardly the hero I would want holding up my banner.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 12:24

Or his husband.

Pluvia · 31/03/2022 12:28

Yes, he's married with children. And he has a reputation in the area: I'm in South Wales and know several people in the Bridgend and Porthcawl area who have been aware of him for some time. Not in a good way.

PronounssheRa · 31/03/2022 12:34

For years we have been told trans lives aren't for debate, yet here we have the vocal of the rainbow (tatchell Piddock etal) all debating if wallis is really trans.

I'm not going to lie, watching them tie themselves in knots is greatly amusing.

Turningpurple · 31/03/2022 12:35

I assume no one is mentioning the cheating because the only time he is explicitly admitted 'hooking up' with someone is the time he was raped.

Though, I would speculate there's been many other times. Including the times his photo was taken by the person who blackmailed him.

Anyone in the media mentioning it, will be rounded on as it ended up with him being raped.

2Rebecca · 31/03/2022 12:35

I presumed he was gay. That is a bizarre omission by the media

SmellyOldOwls · 31/03/2022 12:47

'Am I non binary and therefore trans'

We are all non binary. Because gender is bollocks.

OldCrone · 31/03/2022 12:50

not a word on his Wikipedia page about his poor wife.

Wikipedia has now been updated to say that at the time of the GE in 2019 he was married with two daughters.

nauticant · 31/03/2022 12:53

Much of Mr Wallis's life seems to have a Schrödinger quality.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 12:54

Obviously the fact that he was raped while trying to cheat is heinous. Assuming he was still married, that is.

Anyway, MPs do cheat and don’t get deselected anymore (Matt Hancock), but I don’t feel bad about saying Wallis sounds deceptive, sexist, law-breaking, and a bit like a pimp. I don’t care about him being gay or trans. I think our communities deserve better.

Janie143 · 31/03/2022 12:57

My ex had gay hookups. Apparently they weren't gay hookups because he is a straight woman now. He also used that as an excuse for being an abusive arsehole to me and the kids because he wasn't living as his authentic self.
