To wonder why an MP is lying about womens bathrooms?

Lucy Allen has tweeted that the Barbican has mens bathrooms and gender neutral bathrooms, but no womens bathrooms.

Lots of twitter users told her that was wrong.

The Barbican itself told her it's wrong.

But the tweet remains. AIBU to think that if an MP gets something wrong, they should apologise and remove the lie? Or to think that this is deliberate misinformation to further the myth of women being 'erased'?

Or do you mean she came out of gender neutral toilets that had previously been mens toilets so still have urinals etc?

As other posters have said, the womens and mens bathrooms on that particular floor have both been converted to be gender neutral. So its not just womens toilets being converted.

Does the Barbican have any men's only toilets left? Are you implying that men using the toilets with the changed signage are consenting to women seeing them use the toilet?
If so, you're nearly on the way to realising why women don't want mixed-sex toilets. We don't want people claiming we consented to see penises just because we needed the toilet. It's coercion of women.

Also, I'm not sure why you think I should stay out of a urinal since I never went into a urinal. That would be pretty unpleasant. I said I had once or twice used a gender neutral bathroom with a urinal.

And on your question, yes, the Barbican does have mens toilets. Just as it has womens toilets. Just as it has gender neutral toilets.

When I went there ( I think it was half term) a woman came out of the gender neutral toilets and pointed me to a certain way and when I looked there was still a men's sign, so maybe it was in process of being converted? But there was clearly a male sign above the door.

So when you say she came out of the gender neutral toilets, I don't understand how they can have been simultaneously mens toilets and gender neutral toilets.

I attended an event a couple of years ago and due to the kind of event it was there were quite a few butch presenting lesbians and also quite a few Transwomen. I am confused! If the toilets have urinals then they aren't gender neutral they are men's toilets. So she was in the Men's????

Cause every time I've seen 'limited exceptions' try to happen I've seen TRA push back, tantrums, accusations of bullying, accusations of wanting trans people dead, to not exist, complaints, call for for sackings, defunding, and all round hyperbole. Case in point Womens Aid. A commitment to provide inclusive spaces and services AS WELL AS single sex spaces. Not only single sex spaces, although you might be mistaken given the ensuing twitter tantrum, mantra chanting and commitment from other organisations that they'll make sure those women will be forced to share with males against their will or else it's no support for them

I received this message today: “I was at the Barbican yesterday where there were male toilets, disabled toilets, and gender neutral toilets. I asked where were the female toilets as I am not gender neutral I am a woman and they laughed in my face. Women are being erased.”

It was pointed out to OP that the entire political system is currently based on lies hours ago. She doesn’t give a shit about MPs lying, it’s a convenient hook for her to hang her agenda on.

I can see how this came about.

If I'd been there, I wouldn't have wanted to use any of the signposted options of 'men's' - not me, I'm a woman - or 'gender neutral' = unisex - I'd prefer a single sex facility - or 'disabled' - I'm not entitled to use these & would not want to get in the way of a disabled person.

So I'd ask to be directed to the 'women's' toilets. Which does technically encompass the 'unisex' ones misleadingly branded as 'gender neutral', as women who are OK with sharing facilities with men can use these.

I'd need to specify 'women's single sex' to avoid being directed to the unisex facilities which appear to be provided now alongside 'men', & in place of 'women'. So I might well explain that unisex didn't suit, please point me at the actual women's toilet.

& I'd be bloody irritated, especially if I needed the women's toilet fairly urgently, a) to find they weren't provided on an equitable basis alongside the facilities set aside exclusively for men, & b) to be sneered at for asking.

Eh? As per picture further up thread - it shows gender neutral toilets then disabled then men's toilets. That's where I went to the toilet and couldn't find a women's toilet. There were no urinals in the g/n toilets!

I see a number agreeing that she is lying but have they read the tweet? Can they tell us where the MP was lying? Did the MP or didn’t the MP receive the message from a woman that the MP put in their tweet?

Are people so entrenched in their hatred of MPs in general or of a particular political party that they are willing to call the MP a liar because OP said so?

Gender neutral just means that you can use them regardless of your gender.

Yeah, male and female toilets are gender neutral, you use them by sex. so males of any gender can use the male toilets and females of any gender can use the female toilets.
