On gender transition at PMQs:" biology overwhelmingly important", preceded by urging respect for those feeling they need to transition. Sounded calm, respectful, and kinda where we were on course before the TRA actions.

I was watching.

12:355_ Angela Richardson - question on Cass Review and high number of girls
12:366_ Boris Johnson

Boris: 'The issue (gender distress) is one that the whole House is coming to realise needs tact, love and care...in addition, when it comes to distinguishing between a man and a woman, the facts of biology remaining overwhelmingly important'

Big.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2022 12:45

That is good to read.

Something I can make sense of and agree with.

ResisterRex · 23/03/2022 12:46

Also in the Graun live blog:

Angela Richardson (Con) asks if the PM supports research into why so many girls are experiencing gender distress.
Johnson says he would be happy to have a meeting on this. MPs realise this issue requires sensitivity, tact and care. If people want to make a transition, they should be treated with maximum generosity, he says.
But he says, when it comes to distinguishing between a man and a woman, “the basic facts of biology remain overwhelmingly important”.

Boris also committed to meet her and other MPs, I think

VestofAbsurdity · 23/03/2022 12:48

Suspect the Tory Party can see the tide is turning, they've seen the ridicule heaped on the Labour Party members who can't/won't say what a woman is.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2022 12:49

What do we do?! I surely can’t vote Tory but they are the only ones showing sense on this.

VestofAbsurdity · 23/03/2022 12:50

Interesting is the use of the words overwhelming important

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 23/03/2022 12:51

Yes that's the sad thing. I cannot vote Tory. But this is big enough for me to not vote Labour. The Greens are awash with this as are the Lib Dems.
I don't have to agree with a party on everything, but I have to agree on more than one thing so I can't vote Tory.

SockFluffInTheBath · 23/03/2022 12:51

Snap.
midlifecrash · 23/03/2022 12:52

He’s not to be trusted on this or anything else. But it means the damage this is doing to Labour has been noticed

DoobryWhatsit · 23/03/2022 12:52

Ugh. I agree with exactly what he said, and the manner in which he said it. And I absolutely don't have time for any of Kier Starmer's blithering bullshit. Please someone tell me that I haven't just hit that point in middle-age where I suddenly switch to being a tory bastard?!!

VestofAbsurdity · 23/03/2022 12:52

The Tories are looking to put clear water between them and Labour on this issue, you can bet they will be using it come election time.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 23/03/2022 12:52

Oh brilliant, I’ll definitely vote for this overwhelmingly corrupt party lead by a suspected criminal then Hmm

TonyThreePies · 23/03/2022 12:54

@MsTSwift

Me too. I never thought I'd see the day that I agreed with something that mop-headed buffoon said Confused
ChaToilLeam · 23/03/2022 12:54

All well and good, but they won’t get my vote. They might know what a woman is but there are many reasons not to vote Tory. I’m politically homeless at present.

He makes more sense than the former Director of Public Prosecutions. This is ridiculous.
Joystir59 · 23/03/2022 13:00

I will have to vote Labour as it's the only way to get the Tories out. Even though the Labour party are betraying me on this issue.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 13:00

Tories want to separate themselves out from Labour on this. It will be their last desperate gasp of winning votes. And Labour shouldn't fall for it and should, instead, make it clear that sex is immutable, that TW are TW and that, if you are offering support for trans people, it should be in addition to support for women and not at the expense of women.

JoodyBlue · 23/03/2022 13:03

I don't want to get the Tories out - they are the only party holding the line for women. I say that as a person who has never voted Tory before.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 13:03

I will not vote Labour

HeDidWhattt · 23/03/2022 13:04

Tories are going to take Labour to the cleaners…..sad…and a shame, but true.

No one wants to vote tories…but they will for their sisters, daughters, nieces etc.

I can see a landslide coming in Sad

SilverCatStripes · 23/03/2022 13:04

I am a typical floating voter - grew up in a Labour stronghold and usually voted Lib Dem as a bit of protest vote and I used to like what the Lib Dems stood for.

I didn’t vote for any party in the last GE, but I actually don’t think it’s enough now to simply not vote Lib Dem/Labour etc, and I will vote Tory in the next GE based on this issue.

ImAvingOops · 23/03/2022 13:05

They'll get my vote for this. It's the hill I'm willing to die on - if the Labour Party etc aren't willing to define what a woman is then they can't be trusted to protect us. If they are so weak that they will allow TRA to pressure them into this ridiculous stance where they deny biological facts, what else will they bend on?

Labour etc have proven themselves to be utterly spineless. I'm not defending the Tories but in a time where no party represents me, at least this one recognises what I am!

oldwomanwhoruns · 23/03/2022 13:05

Our Boris seems (to me) to still be a bit sitting-on-the-fence with this one.

Somehow we have to get him to realise that fence-sitting is not an option. You are either with truth, and reality, or you go down the route of fantasy and transitioning children

There is no 'middle way'.

But he does seem to have noticed the fallout from the Labour party's party line of TWAW.

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:06

'No one wants to vote tories…but they will for their sisters, daughters, nieces etc.'

I do now. I'm mortified by the sheer idiocy on display from the Labour Party. I was a member. Now I'm completely against them.
