On gender transition at PMQs:" biology overwhelmingly important", preceded by urging respect for those feeling they need to transition. Sounded calm, respectful,and kinda where we were on course before the TRA actions.

@bellinisurge

Tories want to separate themselves out from Labour on this. It will be their last desperate gasp of winning votes. And Labour shouldn't fall for it and should, instead, make it clear that sex is immutable, that TW are TW and that, if you are offering support for trans people, it should be in addition to support for women and not at the expense of women.
They've had that chance,and they have repeatedly refused it (Stamar, Lammy,Dodds,Cooper) they've shown they are either idiots or cowards. My feeling is more the latter

I mean, if Johnson can get this said in a clear and easily understood way then the Lib Dems , Labour, Greens etc are sorely letting themselves down.

I just cannot and will not vote Conservative, because apart from this, they represent everything that I don't agree with. But then, that leaves me with no party to vote for. The best I can hope for is a rational independent, but that doesn't typically happen in my constituency.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 23/03/2022 13:12

Honestly, I do not get this. I can see this side of the argument on the definition of a woman but this government are:

  • corrupt and corruptible,

-lead by a man who lies like most of us breathe,

-don’t want to feed hungry children in poverty during the school holidays,

-have suggested that Ukrainian refugees fleeing their war-torn country come here on the condition that they pick fruit

-and are pretending that Covid doesn’t exist now just to save the arse of their Liar in Chief (and steam rolling us all into another bad winter with the potential for deaths rising and the potential of education being disrupted).

For me and many others all of that trumps this one issue, as it should.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 13:13

I won't vote Tory. Until Corbyn I was a lifelong Labour voter (first vote in 1987). But I won't vote Labour unless they drop this shit

VelvetChairGirl · 23/03/2022 13:15

I still hate him, he is a repugnant, thick, lying piece of shit, this has not increased my view of him at all, it has only made me view starmer with even more contempt which I guess is a win for Johnson, I wish it wasnt.

we are completely fucked as voters, I wont vote for either party for different reasons.

Eve · 23/03/2022 13:15

@MsTSwift

What do we do?! I surely can’t vote Tory but they are the only ones showing sense on this.
I think I may spoil my vote !

..though my safe seat MP is a minster who has appeared on here recently, I wonder how their tune will change soon?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/03/2022 13:15

Just watching the BBC reporting on how girls are still being denied a return to school in Afghanistan. I wonder how the Labour party reckons the Taliban knows who to target. Sad

They're such fucking idiots.

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:16

BurnDown:

I'm a mother of girls. I see the importance of all those issues, but if you don't see how the promotion of childhood transition to young gay, autistic or otherwise distressed females in a grotesquely sexist culture might conceivably trump some of them in the minds of any particular voter, I would ask whether you have really considered my concern as a mother.

Corruption and dishonesty are not limited to the Tory party. It is corrupt and dishonest to tell me to ignore the evidence of my eyes.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 13:17

"For me and many others all of that trumps this one issue, as it should."
This one issue is an existential threat to women. Which is why the scumbag Tories will use it. Been warning about this since Starmer took over. I had high hopes

Joystir59 · 23/03/2022 13:17

If we don't vote Labour we have the Tories again. That's much more shit for many more people who are already struggling. If you abstain, the Tories win, if you spoil your ballot paper the Tories win, if you vote for Libdem, Green, SNP, Women's Equality, any of the minority parties, the Tories win. Vote Labour and get rid. We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 13:18

If we don't vote Labour that's on them

Tarne · 23/03/2022 13:20

I cannot believe the audacity of some men who think that because they like to dress up in glamorous fancy dress, wear make up and heels that all this makes them a woman!! It makes them a transwoman and good luck to them!

They should be happy with that category, there should be trans categories in the Olympics, Commonwealth games, national and school sporting activities and we can all celebrate trans athletes!

ZaraSizeMedium · 23/03/2022 13:20

Thank you Boris.

I live in a Labour stronghold, as the saying goes “you could pin a red rosette on a donkey and it’d get voted in here” so my X won’t make a difference either way, but I’m done with Labour and will be spoiling my ballot with some Woman=Adult Human Female stickers.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2022 13:20

No chance. You can but I’m not working on this after Labour get in. I’m avoiding it altogether.

If Labour listened to women they’d have more of a chance to win votes.

mudgetastic · 23/03/2022 13:21

Why is it more likely that we can persuade labour to understand biology than we can persuade the tories to have a greater awareness of poverty ?

Iwassonaive · 23/03/2022 13:21

@DoobryWhatsit

Ugh. I agree with exactly what he said, and the manner in which he said it. And I absolutely don't have time for any of Kier Starmer's blithering bullshit. Please someone tell me that I haven't just hit that point in middle-age where I suddenly switch to being a tory bastard?!!
Yes it can happen....how old are you lol
Fluffymule · 23/03/2022 13:25

Is Boris a liar? Yes, we know this.

Are Labour MPs, including their front bench liars when they say that biological sex doesn't exist, that humans can change sex and that women (and men) who call this out are hateful bigots?

In my opinion yes. Liars.

Whether through fear, or lack of integrity I don't care. Liars.

Otherwise I have to summise they are stupid. Too stupid to be trusted with my vote.

Women and girls make up 50% of our population. All laws and policy impact their lives. If politicians can't even get the first, most basic, recognition of our right to be recognised by our sex, all other policies and laws start to crumble or be meaningless.

I don't yet know who I will vote for at the next election, but it won't be Labour.

Iwassonaive · 23/03/2022 13:25

@mudgetastic

Why is it more likely that we can persuade labour to understand biology than we can persuade the tories to have a greater awareness of poverty ?
It's not more likely since the Labour Party's stance is totally unpragmatic. Pragmatism is good in response to real issues. . Furlough was an example of unexpected generosity (pragmatism) from the Tories. Many Daily Telegraph commentators accuse Boris Johnson of being too 'left wing'.
ImAvingOops · 23/03/2022 13:27

The thing is, Labour knows full well what a woman is. They are just too chicken shit to say. I don't want to vote for a party where the leaders are too weak to speak the truth. JKR had it right when she said Cooper needs a dictionary and a spine.

PronounssheRa · 23/03/2022 13:28

Vote Labour and get rid. We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

I admire your optimism but i think it's misplaced.
Women have been trying to work with Labour on this for years, Labour just aren't listening, and often refuse to even meet with women's groups. They rejected Karen Ingala Smiths application to join as a member while elevating people like Lily madigan.

Iwassonaive · 23/03/2022 13:29

@Alonelonelylonersbadidea

Yes that's the sad thing. I cannot vote Tory. But this is big enough for me to not vote Labour. The Greens are awash with this as are the Lib Dems. I don't have to agree with a party on everything, but I have to agree on more than one thing so I can't vote Tory.
So if you don't vote, you put yourself back to the position of women in the UK 100 years ago when they had no vote. You have let the TRAs and MRAs win if you do this, for you have let them disenfranchise you.
inmyslippers · 23/03/2022 13:30

This could wake Labour up. So far they've been hoping to keep this quiet but now that the PM has picked a side, they will have to be clear on where they stand. If they want to win an election, there's only one side they can pick.
tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:30

'Vote Labour and get rid. We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.'

You can't work with people who are prepared to sacrifice reality on the altar of whatever this is. They are zealots.

If anyone wants to know what Johnson really thinks of women then read this.
