On gender transition at PMQs:" biology overwhelmingly important", preceded by urging respect for those feeling they need to transition. Sounded calm, respectful,and kinda where we were on course before the TRA actions.

Corruption and dishonesty are not limited to the Tory party. It is corrupt and dishonest to tell me to ignore the evidence of my eyes.

Exactly. Also this isn't just one issue as some suggest. To say so is demeaning and reductive. It goes through all of our everyday lives, all the time.

Labour's fucked it so far as I'm concerned. They could have - should have - been a functioning opposition. They should have been asking about:

  • safety of women prisoners
  • quality of evidence base for self-ID
  • for a review such as Cass
  • for good quality, impartial schools resources
  • protection of women's sports
  • more money based on evidence of need for LGBT refuges and rape crisis services
  • protection of a free press, one not forced to lie about salient facts in crime reporting

So the list goes on.

What did they choose to do? Throw Duffield under the bus, ignore us, tell us to shut up, arse about with "this woman votes" luxury beliefs garbage.

It was up to (mostly) women to take time out of our lives to write to our MPs about these things. To do the research that civil servants and MPs' assistants should have been doing. You'd think the opposition would've been interested but they weren't. They told us "it never comes up". Then to be kiiiind / "both sides". Ignoring the origins of the rape and death threats.

They've betrayed women and children. No way will I vote Labour after this.

CarbonelCat · 23/03/2022 13:33

I detest the man but on this, I'm relieved and hopeful.

He needs to join the dots now then. If biology is overhelmingly important then that applies in prisons, hospitals, schools, sports and he is in a position to make the lines clearer and to enforce safeguarding.

He needs to communicate with the DfE and ensure their guidance on PSHE is clear, non contradictory and supports schools to resist the compulsion to indoctrinate gender ideology...

HazySummer · 23/03/2022 13:34

@Joystir59

If we don't vote Labour we have the Tories again. That's much more shit for many more people who are already struggling. If you abstain, the Tories win, if you spoil your ballot paper the Tories win, if you vote for Libdem, Green, SNP, Women's Equality, any of the minority parties, the Tories win. Vote Labour and get rid. We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.
I don't want to have to work with them though. They think so little of me that they deny the existence of my sex. It's such a fundamental insult to women.
Thewindwhispers · 23/03/2022 13:34

@ChaToilLeam

All well and good, but they won’t get my vote. They might know what a woman is but there are many reasons not to vote Tory. I’m politically homeless at present.
This. Why is there no one to vote for?!
nevercis · 23/03/2022 13:36

Johnson doesn't believe this position any more than he believes anything else he says. It's just that enough of us have made it politically expedient for him to take this line.

Fluffymule · 23/03/2022 13:37

If anyone wants to know what Johnson really thinks of women then read this

We know what Boris really thinks. We know who he is. That is not the point.

Labour's issue is that even knowing who Boris is people will still vote for the Conservatives over a united Labour position that cannot and will not say what a woman is. That has MPs saying humans can change sex. That has women MPs telling women to 'pipe down' and accept trans ideology.

MaryQueenOfSwots · 23/03/2022 13:38

I would give anything to get the repellent joke of a PM and his cronies out of office - except my sex-based rights.

JoodyBlue · 23/03/2022 13:39

I will find it very very hard to forgive the Labour party over this utter fiasco. Lie after lie, gaslighting at every opportunity. I would rather have a party that I disagree with over almost everything, and I do with the Tories, and that party does not explicitly try to tell me that up is down and insist I do the same with my kids.

Great post. You missed one thing, we women should not have had to fund other brave women (and some men) fighting these misrepresentations of the law. Politicians should have been looking after the rights of 50% of the population. Every single woman MP in the Labour Party should have supported Rosie Duffield. The fact they did not shows they are not up to the job of being MPs.
crumpet · 23/03/2022 13:42

The worry about a vote for Labour is that they will treat it as endorsement of their policy on this issue

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:42

'Every single woman MP in the Labour Party should have supported Rosie Duffield. The fact they did not shows they are not up to the job of being MPs.'

Indeed. I cringe when I hear them obfuscating, lying and cowering.

ResisterRex · 23/03/2022 13:42

@Iwassonaive yes I did miss that, and I shouldn't have because I've ploughed a small fortune into those cases! It's like another tax.

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:43

I think we went through such a long period of peace and relative prosperity that we forgot being an MP required more than being clever. It also needs a spine and a dictionary.

littlbrowndog · 23/03/2022 13:44

It’s hill I will run to top of with all the other women

We matter

Every msp and mp representing Scotland said the TWAW and most victimised ever.

Spineless tossers the lot of them

I don't think so. It's too risky to ignore what Labour is saying. Words matter and I only have their words to go by, so I will listen and NOT vote Labour.
A580Hojas · 23/03/2022 13:45

It's sort of desperate but I'll be emailing my female Labour MP a link to this thread.

I urge you all to do the same! whether your Labour MP or candidate is male or female, please write to them on this!

I know there are other recent threads about the labour party and the trampling of women's rights. I'll seek those out and link them too.

BridasShieldWall · 23/03/2022 13:47

@VelvetChairGirl

I still hate him, he is a repugnant, thick, lying piece of shit, this has not increased my view of him at all, it has only made me view starmer with even more contempt which I guess is a win for Johnson, I wish it wasnt.

we are completely fucked as voters, I wont vote for either party for different reasons.

Yep I agree with this. I am so angry with Labour. Julia HB spent just under 5 minutes grilling James Murray making him look an absolute idiot. It was 5 minutes that he should have spent talking about fuel price increases, cost of living increases, funding in schools and supporting children who have missed school and who need support, improving mental health service, recruitment crisis in NHS, P&O workers etc etc

Labour have allowed this to happen and should have realised how this would be used by the opposition. That s beside Labour not supporting women - I just look at the ever lengthening list of Labour MPs looking like idiots ripnutmeg Twitter. They aren’t fit to govern but then neither are the Tories. I’ve been eligible to vote for 32 years and Labour every time apart from once. I can’t vote for them now they are incompetent.

MidsomerMurmurs · 23/03/2022 13:47

@nevercis

Johnson doesn't believe this position any more than he believes anything else he says. It's just that enough of us have made it politically expedient for him to take this line.
What do you think Keir Starmer is thinking when he says “you shouldn’t say only women have a cervix”?

I think he knows that only women have a cervix, but is not strong enough to actually say so. I don’t mean strength as in fisticuffs, I mean intellectual strength. Someone has told him that Guardian readers won’t forgive him if he tells the truth. I won’t vote for that sort of coward.

PoshPyjamas · 23/03/2022 13:47

Labour can fuck off, I'll be voting Tory because of this issue.

purpleboy · 23/03/2022 13:48

@MsTSwift

What do we do?! I surely can’t vote Tory but they are the only ones showing sense on this.
Anyone up for or know how to start a new party?

I'd be up for joining, run by the women of FWR I'm sure one of you can come up with a catchy nameGrin

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 13:50

'Johnson doesn't believe this position any more than he believes anything else he says. It's just that enough of us have made it politically expedient for him to take this line.'

Of course he believes biology is important. When people say BJ will shag anything that moves, as far as I know it's really only adult human females. He does not believe in some arbitrary, nebulous spectrum of male to female, and he does not believe a man saying he is female makes him so. And nor does anyone with a modicum of sanity.

I'm not going to make any Cameron jokes.

MyLittlePhonyPony · 23/03/2022 13:53

I'm do with identity politics. If labour get in they have committed to changing the law to self I'd. Much easier to campaign against self I'd before it's become law. Laws aren't undone easily- look at the gra.

I'm putting on my big girl pants and voting Conservative. Fed up of polarising politics. No they're not my first choice but if I continue to vote tribally nothing will change and labour will continue to expect my vote whilst they shit on me.
I just hope Johnson won't be leader for long and there's a shake up. There are moderate and competent Conservatives.

Just hope Gove is too busy snorting coke and clubbing to have a stab at it.

Oldh · 23/03/2022 13:53

Charlotte Nichols (Lab) said it is lazy transphobia to criticise Lia Thomas - add that to Keir Stamer's blathering

I wish it were so Joystir. Seems that voting for Labour will confirm their biase rather than encourage a rethink.
CanIPleaseHaveOne · 23/03/2022 13:55

@Fluffymule

Is Boris a liar? Yes, we know this.

Are Labour MPs, including their front bench liars when they say that biological sex doesn't exist, that humans can change sex and that women (and men) who call this out are hateful bigots?

In my opinion yes. Liars.

Whether through fear, or lack of integrity I don't care. Liars.

Otherwise I have to summise they are stupid. Too stupid to be trusted with my vote.

Women and girls make up 50% of our population. All laws and policy impact their lives. If politicians can't even get the first, most basic, recognition of our right to be recognised by our sex, all other policies and laws start to crumble or be meaningless.

I don't yet know who I will vote for at the next election, but it won't be Labour.

Exactly
