On gender transition at PMQs:" biology overwhelmingly important", preceded by urging respect for those feeling they need to transition. Sounded calm, respectful, and kinda where we were on course before the TRA actions.

If Labour win, they will argue that they have an endorsement for this batshittery. Same as the SNP does. And it's wrong.
Self ID was snuck into Irish law at the same time as the very important and positive law on equal marriage. It does NOT have majority support in Ireland.

ImAvingOops · 23/03/2022 13:58

Very restrained of you tabby Smile
If there's one thing I'd guarantee Boris does know, it's what a woman is!

Boris would nail anything. He’ll also say anything if it’ll get him votes.

flyingbuttress43 · 23/03/2022 14:02

Labour won't change its mind on this issue. They are completely captured by the woke agenda.

OK - I understand the hatred for Tories that many (most?) posters on this thread have but to me, voting Labour because you hate the Tories more than you don't like Labour's stance on Trans is a betrayal of women.

Papayamya · 23/03/2022 14:03

Of ffs I wish it has been Labour saying this. Is this one of the first logical, sensible and based in science thing he's ever said?

Papayamya · 23/03/2022 14:04

@Ncwinc

Boris would nail anything. He’ll also say anything if it’ll get him votes.
I don't care if he's just saying it as long as they stick to it.
bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 14:04

I imagine he did a weighing up exercise like he did with Brexit. Which one is Labour vulnerable on? It is literally the only vote saver they have.
And I still won't vote Labour. Labour only has a chance if they get people in large numbers to actively vote for them. And they won't get that because enough women will be put off.

VestofAbsurdity · 23/03/2022 14:06

We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

How? They've told women who don't believe TWAW not to vote for them, if you do vote for them then they will take it as a ringing endorsement of their policy re self-id.

PinkGinBigGrin · 23/03/2022 14:07

Vote Labour and get rid. We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

That is an extremely risky strategy with a high chance of failure.

Il be voting Tory specifically to keep labour out.

Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2022 14:07

@crumpet

The worry about a vote for Labour is that they will treat it as endorsement of their policy on this issue
That's how Nicola Sturgeon has taken the votes which were cast for the SNP at the last election. A vote for the SNP was a vote for self ID apparently, despite this not being mentioned on any election publicity and the vast majority of the Scottish general public not knowing or understanding the impact of self id.

"Nicola Sturgeon 'wrong' to say SNP was elected on self-ID gender policy - Scottish Daily Express" www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon-wrong-say-snp-25929807.amp

"Nicola Sturgeon 'facing revolt' over gender bill as rebels seek free vote | HeraldScotland" www.heraldscotland.com/politics/19955525.nicola-sturgeon-facing-revolt-gender-bill-rebels-seek-free-vote/

A vote for Labour will be taken as an endorsement of all this nonsense. Your views will be said to be 'not valid', as have ours, and so it will continue.

@tabbycatstripy

'No one wants to vote tories…but they will for their sisters, daughters, nieces etc.'

I do now. I'm mortified by the sheer idiocy on display from the Labour Party. I was a member. Now I'm completely against them.

Me too!

I have posted, to much sneering, that BJ has said this, versions of this, lots and lots of times before. This is the clearest he has said it in one go.

I remain politically homeless. I have no local MP worth their salt. I can't vote Labour or Tory. No major party really.

I have said and posted for years that politics in the UK is fucked. We have almost no proper politicians, just Careerist Politickos and they all merge into one unpleasant ball of "No Thank You!". And here we are.

Labour with little grasp of, well, just about anything
Tories with actual polices and common sense - who the hell knew that ever would be said by me? I may not agree with their policies, but their common sense on this one matter? Their willingness to buck the Woke Trend? That's a revelation!

Fluffymule · 23/03/2022 14:10

@Ncwinc

Boris would nail anything. He’ll also say anything if it’ll get him votes.
I don't disagree. But it works both ways.

Why are Labour MPs saying ridiculous ideologically based untruths, if not to get votes?

There's no way an intelligent respected QC like Starmer believes that a human actually changes sex, so why is he saying this stuff? Why can't he say exactly what Boris Johnson said today?

MedusasBadHairDay · 23/03/2022 14:10

On the flip side voting Tory just because they will occasionally (when they think its a vote winner) remember that women exist feels like a betrayal of poor and disabled women.
bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 14:11

I will not hope to "change the batshittery" later. It's now or never. We got rid of the antisemites this way, we'll get rid of this through electoral defeat. Unless, Labour is smart enough to get on the front foot and start talking like grown ups about this instead of grumpy teens

Artichokeleaves · 23/03/2022 14:11

There is a group of people whose special needs should be met

AND

Biology exists and the massive majority of people's lives and definitions will revolve around this.

The man isn't big on common sense, but that's something I can get behind.

SamphiretheStickerist · 23/03/2022 14:12

Oh - the "Boris is a liar" thing. ALL current politicans, the careerists, the eye on the prize politickos are ALL LIARS!

sashagabadon · 23/03/2022 14:12

Good to hear from Boris. It’s extraordinary that Labour can’t say this but we are where we are!

whitecreambluejug · 23/03/2022 14:13

I'm voting Conservative because of this.

If there were a shit party but it took a clear line against slavery, and all the other parties were better on a wide range of parties but wanted to re-introduce slavery, I would definitely be voting for the shit but anti-slavery party.

I feel the same about this. This is not a single-issue for me. Its fundamentally about recognising the humanity, existence and essential human rights of just over half the human population. Damn right I will vote for a party the reflects my views on this and I will unashamedly vote for them too.

SamphiretheStickerist · 23/03/2022 14:14

We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

How? They refused to accept votes from women who had gone against their batshittery. They made bloody lists of us. They told us, point blank, to fuck off if we did not accept TWAW!

Many of us fucked off. After decades of being a card carrying member. Got it on my 18th birthday, sent it back on my 50th!

whitecreambluejug · 23/03/2022 14:15

and all the other parties were better on a wide range of parties

Should have said, ' all the other parties were better on a wide range of issues'

Artichokeleaves · 23/03/2022 14:16

We can work with labour to change their batshitery on gender.

Oh we really, really can't.

You always have to think with a party trying to sound electable - particularly Labour who live on 'don't frighten the horses, get into power on a lot of nice sounding waffle and then do what you want when its too late for democracy to interfere' - is that what they will tell you will be a very small, watered down version of what they would actually do once the voters can't stop them for a few years.

This degree of batshittery is what they think of as the small, reasonable, palatable, saleable bit. So what they would be capable of once in power?

Yeah, as a biological woman stuffed with not being able to identify out of the realities of it, I really don't want to experience living under that. Or see other women living under it either. I'll go with bumbling, corrupt and uncaring over actively bloody dangerous, homophobic and woman-hating any day of the week.

oldwomanwhoruns · 23/03/2022 14:17

I'm with you, @purpleboy . It's a shame that the Women's Equality Party are already down the rabbit hole.
Trying to think of a name!
Socialist Mums?
Real Women?

I wonder how much it costs to set this up & to put up some candidates...

MyLittlePhonyPony · 23/03/2022 14:17

On the flip side voting Tory just because they will occasionally (when they think its a vote winner) remember that women exist feels like a betrayal of poor and disabled women.

Disabled women are extremely vulnerable to self Id. If self Id comes in they lose their right to a same sex carer, hospital treatment etc.
