BC is also challenging my prejudice towards men with beards.

BenCooperisaGod · 18/03/2022 06:32

This has been a fantastic example of open justice. Our legal system should be more open. Cases like this that are about more than one person and one employer need to be available for all to see.

There is so much to learn from it. When you engage in a legal environment, when hyperbolic statements such as "you are denying my existence" get dissected and shown as the twaddle they are, when you cant hide behind no debate and mantras and "beeee kiiinnnnddd", there is naff all there. No substance. This is a faith based movement and should be treated as such.

@Awkwardy thank you

Just a thought that I wish BC would act for Stonewall next [well, not really. But sort of]. He's a lawyer, not a campaigner.

InvisibleDragon · 18/03/2022 07:50

Oh wow, thanks @MForstater for answering my question about Masood Ahmed being a respondent!

Simonedinovoir · 18/03/2022 08:00

Caught up with the tweets and threads and my admiration for @MForstater is boundless.
She really is “stunning and brave”.
Her treatment has been grim. I keep asking myself what would I have done in her position and I get the answer “quietly fume, rock no boats, keep my job”.
But this case is helping me be braver. I still can’t see myself coming out as GC in my work place but I can now confidently speak up for the rights of those who are. Reading of Maya’s treatment has put a fire in my belly. I am so angry. It’s also been entertaining and fascinating but I am so angry.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 18/03/2022 08:02

Good luck today, @MForstater. I have followed your story for a long time via MN and social media, and still I’m surprised anew daily by how badly you were treated.

Xenia · 18/03/2022 08:12

On the comment about open justice, I agree and we do have it. I used to go into courts as a teenager in the sixth form just to listen and watch, sometimes I wa the only person in there. It was very interesting. I also agree that in court it is hard for anyone to get away with being unclear or undefined and we have good court processes in the Uk to get into the truth. It was similar with the litigation about the wording for "sex" relating to the guidance on the census form which was wrong when it said you could use your passport (which was wrong). The court said absolutely not, must be changed and a change was forced.

@FacebookPhotos

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone contributing. Particular thanks to *@MForstater for taking the fight to CGD and @tabbycatstripy* for transcription. I teach so I’m catching up at breaks / lunch / after school, and having the detail is invaluable.

While I think volunteer transcription is likely a non-starter, I’d happily contribute to the costs of official transcription once the case is over.

I’m also minded to think of the P&O crisis today. There appears to be a number of internationally owned companies who simply do not respect UK employment law. We need a strong response from the government on this. Time for another email to my local MP I think.

Me too re. P & O, Facebook. I even saw tweets condemning 'secretive think-tanks' who get the law wrong, and for a few confused seconds I was getting very muddled up indeed, having spent the last few days totally gripped by the tribunal proceedings - I dared to hope that more people were picking up on Maya's case. But no, it was P & O.

There are definitely parallels, I agree,

borntobequiet · 18/03/2022 09:32

Thank you Maya and thanks everyone for these threads, which are riveting.

Dhama · 18/03/2022 09:34

Firstly sorry for just bobbing in, I forgot Mumsnet existed Blush

I didn’t follow this from the start though have been following on Twitter the last two days, Ben is just amazing isn’t he? Can I just ask why EM is not appearing at the tribunal given just how much she has influenced things against Maya? I have looked but can’t see it.

Thank you!

longlines · 18/03/2022 09:56

Who's going to be on the stand today?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 18/03/2022 09:58

@longlines

Who's going to be on the stand today?
MP than AM.
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/03/2022 10:00

For a Think Tank their was precious little analytic thinking in this case.

@MForstater - thank you for fighting this. It helps us all.

Following the tweets and this thread - Ben Cooper’s x examination is a master class.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/03/2022 10:01

there oh for an edit option!!!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 18/03/2022 10:02

@longlines

Who's going to be on the stand today?
Mark Plant and Masood Ahmed (I realise not everyone recognises the initials). Blush
nauticant · 18/03/2022 10:08

The numbers of spectators continue to grow.

tabbycatstripy · 18/03/2022 10:09

EJ Glennie loves this. He's gleeful about the number of people observing.

PrelateChuckles · 18/03/2022 10:11

What? Why?!
tabbycatstripy · 18/03/2022 10:11

CGD side have withdrawn the application to call Ms Schulman but want to add some documents to the bundle. BC is arguing MF hasn't received full disclosure. New disclosure request is ongoing and it seems to BC not proper to include partial disclosure.

WinterTrees · 18/03/2022 10:11

I think that was covered in the second thread Dhama

I've been in and out, reading around work, but my understanding is that CGD could choose who they put forward and decided not to put EM on the stand. (Or maybe EM consulted her diary and realised she just couldn't fit absolute annihilation by Ben into her diary this week...)

Others may have a clearer understanding!

nauticant · 18/03/2022 10:13

Back to the QI reports.

nauticant · 18/03/2022 10:15

Oh, that sentence from QI is a beaut, where QI say that the report to MF should not to identify or explain "offensive" communications.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 18/03/2022 10:17

I hope this is an interesting case for Hamid Ahmed (the clerk in training) who is reaching an audience that might come as a surprise to most people who work for these tribunals. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing in their training had ever prepared them for this level of stardom.
