Another chink of light 🙂

Thank god! Because the recent two Alex Ryder adaptations on Netflix are absolutely superb, and I'd hate to have to feel weird about it if the writer was a twat.

Honestly, the actors in the teenage roles are just outstanding, get it watched.

KittenKong · 07/02/2022 16:33

Wow. Top man.

FFSFFSFFS · 07/02/2022 17:15

I see he’s getting an absolute pasting on Twitter. Oh hang one- no he’s not. I wonder why?

DomesticatedZombie · 07/02/2022 17:31

She is that.

Carriemac · 07/02/2022 17:33

Talented and wise !

I have been following Anthony Horowitz on Twitter for a long time and have always been struck by how balanced and sensible he seems, both in his tweets and interviews. I loved, and still love, his Alex Rider books and am eagerly awaiting the next instalment! I am so glad to see he supports JKR (even though she potentially ripped off his Groosham Grange book, and it was due to the popularity of Harry Potter that he had to discontinue his own series).

When I was a child "The Falcon's Malteaser" was one of my favourite books.
Good news.

Glad to see someone high profile offering their support publicly. I'm not familiar with his work but I'll be sure to check it out now.

I read his books as a child, and now Mini-Pots does too. His books were always what I categorised as a "safe bet" in a library or charity shop. Today, Alex Rider books are very popular in this house!

Agree that the Alex Rider TV series is surprisingly enjoyable, far better than the film. The casting is excellent.

Tanith · 07/02/2022 19:50

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn You may know some of his work without realising it. He's a prolific writer of books and screenplays, mostly for children, but a lot for adults.
He was one of the early writers for Midsomer Murders, he wrote the Alex Rider books, Groosham Grange, The Power of Five, The Diamond Brothers, Murder In Mind, Murder Most Horrid, some of the Poirot episodes...
Well worth checking out!

dropthevipers · 07/02/2022 19:59

If he never did anything else beyond "Foyles War" he should be the next Pope.

And created Foyle's War. He's also written three crime novels in which he is a leading character which I loved.
Clymene · 07/02/2022 20:02

Good for him. I'm glad as I used to read these to my kids. I might watch the series now

TheMarzipanDildo · 07/02/2022 20:50

I love Foyle’s War. And Alex Rider. Go Anthony Horowitz!

I hear JKR ripped of xyz a lot. I actually think it’s the nature of the genre- personally think they all ripped off Dante (who ripped off Virgil, who ripped off Homer...).

It's a fantastic series. Am now eyeing up my teenage son's collection of Alex Rider books! I've enjoyed his Magpie Murders too.

Excellent to have another high profile author speaking out in support of JKR.

HelenaRavenclaw · 07/02/2022 21:20

Thanks @Igneococcus for the full article! Great to see that Horowitz also understands that sex and gender are two distinct things:

"There are moments when I’m writing a character, who might be from a different ethnicity to mine, or a different sex or gender or background."

Tanith · 07/02/2022 21:21

Yep! Forgot to mention that one! Like I said, he's prolific Grin

He's also a lovely man - he once did one of those author talks at my DS's school, kids and staff thought he was fantastic.

Fair enough.

She's also a hero to me for her support of women's rights.
