Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

Don't they need a magistrate to issue a search warrant?

See below (hat tip Arabella). Now, most people would take this as an indication that they need to improve, not give up on issuing well grounded ones altogether…

A 2016 review by the National Crime Agency found that 79% of investigations had defective warrants (of which 8% had significant deficiencies).

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:46

The poster apparently reported to police protested about not housing men in women's jails.

Literally just said "no men in women's prisons."

With an arty image of a face.

Noisyneighneigh · 24/01/2022 10:47

@Rangoon

I am not with the people who generally post on this board but I am aghast at this. Shouldn't the police be trying to reduce the number of women killed rather than the number of women stickering? Shouldn't the police have that cell occupied by somebody who has just beaten up their partner rather than a disabled woman who uses a mobility scooter? I think this just another attempt to deal with "uppity" women who don't do what men want.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee.
Datun · 24/01/2022 10:49

What basis could they possibly have for obtaining a search warrant?!

This is the $64,000 question.

And at what point does it become an issue? Or illegal?

Georgeskitchen · 24/01/2022 10:51

They have her phone? On what grounds? Is this being reported in MSM?

Is she on any WhatsApp or other groups where they will harvest people's phone numbers?
FrancescaContini · 24/01/2022 10:54

I wonder what real crimes were being committed in the time the police were arresting a woman for possession of stickers aiming to draw attention to the number of women killed in the UK by men every week?? At that time of the night, I would guess: burglaries/drug dealing/drunk driving/“domestic violence” AKA violence against women and girls…

Wheresthebeach · 24/01/2022 10:57

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

She uses a mobility scooter. Gwent Police seem to have arrested a disabled woman with a severe mental health condition and put her in a cell for many hours while obtaining a search warrant for her home and taking away sheets of stickers about domestic violence. This is more akin to the response I'd expect to see for a suspected terrorist. I wonder if anyone has video of the arrest. Surely there must be more to this?
I doubt there's more to it.

Make no mistake. They are trying to silence women.

@WarriorN

This was tweeted by the police on Friday

"‼️ We are investigating a number of posters containing offensive material being installed throughout #Newport.

Please do not remove any posters yourself. Instead, call 101 or send us a direct message on social media. The relative authority will then be alerted to safely remove."

'Safely' remove? Where is the risk in removing a poster? Are we already back around to 'evil bigots are putting razors behind posters'? Or maybe this time it's some sort of poison woven into the paper? Perhaps a spring loaded trap that ignites a flamethrower when the poster is detached?

The mind boggles. Disproportionate, delusional, diabolical behaviour. Poor Jennifer.

So at least TRAs are accepting that 'transwomen' are men. It's a start.

They are. It's no longer incompetence, stupidity, or trying to be woke. This is an active campaign, either from the police, or them being complicit.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 11:03

To be clear, that poster was reported in November to the police

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 11:08

This is an article detailing the misogynistic stickers that can be seen around Cardiff, just Up the road from Newport.

And yet a disabled woman who only posts feminist posters not mentioning a single word beginning with T is hauled into a police station and held all night, house raided left to get home alone at 3:30 am.

Then perhaps you've been a bit naive, to date.

In some ways the anime characters in these irritate me as much as the message. Are they 8 years old?!
OldCrone · 24/01/2022 11:14

I'd hoped that Wales would be better than this (I am Welsh) and not go the way of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, but no, as usual Wales is just the slowest to get round to things.

Wales hasn't been slow at all. The Welsh Government has been 'advised' by Stonewall for years and are fully on board with TWAW.

KittenKong · 24/01/2022 11:14

Maybe someone should fly post the whole town with stickers with question marks and exclamation marks on them.

Let’s see how that gets twisted into hatey hate crime.

I particularly object to the use of Snufkin. The moomins would strongly be against them.

Yes to the above. Welsh Police are a go to for child sex offenders to allow them to have their details expunged from registers and even enhanced DBSs, iirc.
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 24/01/2022 11:17

Bloody hell though, this is really quiet sinister. I hope Jennifer is feeling ok today .

Imnobody4 · 24/01/2022 11:17

This is the poster. It's political not transphobic in any way. I hope she sues.

The author has complained to the police about a large number of threatening posters and stickers and the police saw no reason to take it further.

Please read the whole article

Whatthechicken · 24/01/2022 11:21

Thanks @Pluvia, I’ve emailed the PCC. He has made ‘improving trust in the police’ a priority, so I’ve just written to say this needs investigating and a public statement made - because the way this was reportedly handled by the police cannot possibly be true.

We can’t go on like this, it’s sinister and yet it’s becoming so normal to silence, threaten and frighten women into silence.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 11:24

So much gun imagery.

But that's child's play next to posters calling fo men men too be jailed with men and not women.

Police saw no issues with the former.
