Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

I cant help wondering if Gwent Police are operating a 'shock and awe' approach to frighten Welsh Women into silence. it is indeed chilling, but we are far from done in defending our rights.

Possibly though I suspect also could be the puppets of TRAs.

So more dumb and dumber.

[quote Waitwhat23]'The scale and secrecy of Welsh police force misconduct has been revealed for the first time in an investigation byThe National.

Our analysis shows that a disturbing proportion of recent police force dismissals related to significant abuses of power, physical violence and sex offences – and demonstrated a concerning lack of transparency.

These findings come in the wake of UK-wide revelations about police misconduct that have shaken public trust in forces, and raised questions about institutional misogyny.'

Raised questions about institutionalised misogyny? I think it's answered them pretty fucking clearly.

On tweeter copied in Jessica Morden (MP for Newport East) to bring awareness to (I assume) the ridiculousness of it and she has said thank you and retweeted the tweet from Gwent Police warning people of the "offensive" posters!

🙄

barleybadminton · 24/01/2022 13:42

@Thelnebriati

Those are her stickers, I'm not going to comment any more on them as she's still in custody. Jennifer has severe bi polar disorder so I hope she's getting her meds.

I think stickering counts as fly posting, and there's always the possibility of being fined. It used to be something like £60 or £80 per sticker or poster, but I haven't kept up with any changes.

I was involved in a community event once where we got charged £300 per flyposter by the local council under threat of prosecution and that was over 20 years ago. That's the thing really, one or two stickers would probably be dealt with with a small on the spot fine, a few dozen and you're looking at a criminal damage charge potentially running to several thousand pounds. That's quite a serious offence.

That said if true the way the police treated her is appalling but not at all suprising or uncommon. You should see how they treat young black men when they nick them.

Gwent Police are getting a good hammering on Twitter
This will not help her.
Pluvia · 24/01/2022 13:46

What makes you say that, BarleyBadminton? The police are committed to impartiality and observing the law. Are you suggesting that Gwent Police are above the law and will take out their frustration on individuals?

UltraVividLament · 24/01/2022 13:52

This will not help her."

Why pretend like you care about that, @barleybadminton? And the fact that the police treat other people they arrest badly doesn't justify it in anyone else's case, fgs.

Your agenda here is to disrupt and to sow discord.

Pluvia · 24/01/2022 13:53

@Thirtytimesround

In the same week that Britain lectures the Taliban about how to treat women, British police drag disabled woman with mental health issues out of her home in the middle of the night, twist her arms painfully, invade her home and steal her stickers, imprison and interrogate her for a while then kick her out on the street to make her own way home at 3am.

But if you’re a man living in Downing Street, you can party all night in a lockdown and the police on the doorstep listening to tbe party music will look the other way.

😭

From what I have read she was arrested around lunchtime. I am in Wales and in touch with people who are informed about what went on. Perhaps you could amend your statement before it becomes fake news?

Yes unfortunately the police are a notoriously vindictive organisation. Maybe talk to people from other activist movements to get a taste of how they behave.

Could be worse. Our much missed friend jj was involved with an event where they were fined £800 per poster! Sadly, jj isn't around any more for you to commiserate. Moved onto pastures new. Shame, I'd got to like them.

There's another thread about Cardiff's TRAs which links to Jennifer's situation.

I'm actually shocked. What is going on? Female is offensive in Wales? genderisharmful.substack.com/p/cardiff-has-a-problem

Only goes to show how common this is.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 24/01/2022 14:29

I wonder what happened to JJ. I remember them. They haven't been around for a long time. Maybe they realised women were right after all and decided to take up a more fulfilling hobby instead.

ArabellaScott · 24/01/2022 14:30

I had had that impression, Mr Blobby.

I really started to feel that they had finally seen the light. Maybe they're campaigning for womens rights instead of against them now. ☺️

I really admire those posters who return and tell us that this has happened (and we have a number who started out as #BeKind and then participated in good faith on a sufficiently regular basis that they understood what is at stake). I'd like to think there is a golden bridge for people like jj if they've had a substantial shift in their perspective and realised the enormity of their error.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 24/01/2022 14:39

Now I come to think of it, I'm sure they did say that they felt really bad campaigning against women's rights and that they were going to try and do better in the future. Something happened that made them reflect on their behaviour. Which was lovely. Because they had been so nasty and misogynistic before. And then they realised that they needed to get some therapy for their hatred. That was them wasn't it? So lovely to see they had a change of heart.
