Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

How can it be legal to remove someone’s stickers from their house?

How can putting these up be a hate crime?

Olderbadger1 · 24/01/2022 09:48

The whole episode is appalling (and terrifying TBH) but what really does my head in is that they left an elderly lady to make her own way home on her disability scooter at 3.00am. This is misogyny and bullying writ large.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 24/01/2022 09:52

I am not with the people who generally post on this board but I am aghast at this

A number of the people who post here have been commenting about what is happening to women as part of a general state overreach and erosion of the freedom of individuals and wider society. Removal of the right to protest, your right to free speech, your right to talk about the harms we accrue as a sex class, they're being removed in plain sight. Women's existence as a sex class is effectively a hate incident to some groups if perception is all that is necessary for a hate incident to exist.

Manderleyagain · 24/01/2022 09:52

Don't they need a magistrate to issue a search warrant? Presumably the police will have to explain why they need to search the house - what evidence did they say they were looking for? What crimes did they hope to prevent or detect? There must be some balancing process where they consider whether having plod rummaging through your drawers is proportionate to the crime they are investigating? Fron the info we have that balance was way off. Why so much police overreach on this issue?

ldontWanna · 24/01/2022 09:54

She's stating a fact available from plenty of sources that are supported by the Police's own statistics. Where is the hate? Who is the victim?

Somehow they can never prove the "hate" element when women are murdered, beaten, abused, raped etc. but they can now?

Fuck this shit!

Last week I started a thread about the Police LGBT+ network's survey, which indicated that it had fallen completely to gender ideology.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4453456-LGBT-Police-Network-Wales-survey-total-gender-ideology

This week we have this: a disabled woman arrested for hate crimes for stickers relating to violence against women. I understand that TRAs complained they didn't feel safe: the usual tactics.

I'd hoped that Wales would be better than this (I am Welsh) and not go the way of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, but no, as usual Wales is just the slowest to get round to things. In this case, oppressing women and free speech. Welsh women won'd put up with this.

Jeff Cuthbert is the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent police and you can contact him here
[email protected]
and call him on this number

Jeff Cuthbert and Gwent Police are also on Twitter.

I imagine Newport police have contravened a number of requirements regarding disability and I hope to see compensation awarded to Jennifer Swayne.

I'll be out with my stickers later today in Cardiff.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:01

Thanks Gasp, it's bloody unbelievable.

I hope she is ok today.

I hope people like Janice Turner and Julie Bindel are reading.

These were stickers about domestic violence!

PatriotCanes · 24/01/2022 10:10

Are we supposed to pretend that men aren't the ones perpetrating domestic violence on women now? I mean - those stickers are simply stating fact, they don't mention transwomen at all (or is that the issue?) FFS.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:11

Thanks pluvia

TheWeeDonkey · 24/01/2022 10:13

@KittenKong

So they put a disabled women in a half nelson, kept her awake until 1:30am when they interviewed her then turfed her out onto the street at 3:30am to make her way home on a disability scooter? Oh and searched her house.

Whilst ignoring stickers and posters on the same area that threaten women?

Where do I even start with this. The newspapers need to pick this up.

This is unbelievable, what is happening to our country? Does she have an allotment? Don't normally have enough carrots but this is worth digging for

Boys club culture? It all becomes much clearer

Just how many bad apples are there?

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:17

This was tweeted by the police on Friday

"‼️ We are investigating a number of posters containing offensive material being installed throughout #Newport.

Please do not remove any posters yourself. Instead, call 101 or send us a direct message on social media. The relative authority will then be alerted to safely remove."

bishophaha · 24/01/2022 10:21

Gobsmacked.
Is this what "be kind" looks like? Presumably the police have "checked their thinking" and concluded that yes, this is fine and doing their job to their best ability?

IncompleteSenten · 24/01/2022 10:26

There is something very very wrong with the police.

Worldwide actually. I don't think there's a country in the world with a police force that does what it's supposed to do.

It attracts a disproportionate number of abusive men because they like the power it gives them.

It has a 'boys club' mentality and they cover up for each other.

Those that don't agree don't speak up and their silence allows more abuses to continue

Those few brave enough to speak up are targeted and treated like scum.

What is needed is to seriously look at the type of people that are allowed to become police officers.

That'll never happen though.

And I don't want to hear about how none of this is true because X is a police man and is a saint right here on earth with an actual halo and everything.

Not every individual is an active abuser but the culture is toxic and every officer who covers up for a colleague or stays silent when they know about abuses of power is part of the problem.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:26

If this is what Jen has posted on Men killing women that they're referring to I wonder if the gun threats will be removed too? Hmm

Are you trying to say that the women is lying @CheeseMmmm?

Her own SM, not mainstream media. Not everything makes mainstream headlines, ffs!

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:27

When women go to prison for not paying tv licences and the man I knew as a fellow parent didn't for possession of and making images if csa, it's a fucked up world.

Crimesean · 24/01/2022 10:29

I bloody well hope the press are onto this - The Times are usually pretty good at reporting on this kind of thing.

Cuck00soup · 24/01/2022 10:29

What an appalling way to treat anyone.

So just to be clear.
It's OK for some individuals to put up stickers, just not women who are disabled.
It's also also OK to incite violence against women but not to point out that too many of them experience make violence.

Have I got that right? Ducking hell I'm angry.

IAmNotAGirl · 24/01/2022 10:31

Even with my low opinion of police when it comes to womens rights this is shocking. I’d also contribute if she decides to make a case against them

ArabellaScott · 24/01/2022 10:33

I want to see women protected and supported by the police. I can't believe this country. Male supremacy institutionalised. We've not really come very far at all, have we?

ScrollingLeaves · 24/01/2022 10:35

Gwent Police | Newport Officers
@GPNewport
!! We are investigating a number
of posters containing offensive
material being installed throughout
#Newport.
“Please do not remove any posters
yourself. Instead, call 101 or send
us a direct message on social
media. The relative authority will
then be alerted to safely remove.“

Oh, how dignified this ‘authority’.
Oh, brave men that they are! - This will require a counter-terrorist unit, you realise.
These stickers have a very dangerous poisonous layer concealed under their surface.

WarriorN · 24/01/2022 10:40

This is a thread by Jennifer on twitter showing the type of poster that was reported:

BaronMunchausen · 24/01/2022 10:42

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

She uses a mobility scooter. Gwent Police seem to have arrested a disabled woman with a severe mental health condition and put her in a cell for many hours while obtaining a search warrant for her home and taking away sheets of stickers about domestic violence. This is more akin to the response I'd expect to see for a suspected terrorist. I wonder if anyone has video of the arrest. Surely there must be more to this?
What basis could they possibly have for obtaining a search warrant?!

And they also seem to have confiscated her phone.

The police have a very serious woman problem. The new misogynists working well with the old misogynists.

doublemonkey · 24/01/2022 10:46

Unbelieveable. As PP have said, hope the MSM pick this up.

Hope she's ok.
