Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

Ah! The FAQ's page on Platform Fees probably explains that.

You are right except that the merails and derails keep the thread bumped. And when this one fills up, a new thread will follow.

Sometimes merailers are quite useful. And not just for the live demonstrations on tactics deployed to ultimately silence women discussing their rights and the boundaries of those rights. And their personal boundaries.

Some posters get very infuriated when women disagree with them and this is always good to identify as it helps to judge their credibility for new readers.

Yes, these are all good points. And possibly worth it just for the sheer amusement value of the "don't make things up" comment Grin

Whilst I tell you that you'd better not give any money to this woman! because the judge will make it far worse for her if you do!

😁

Sex is a protected characteristic, but I don't think this poor lady has done anything wrong. She must be traumatised.

Terfydactyl · 29/01/2022 10:33

Fines are intended as punishment and are set based on the severity
of the offence and means to pay. If there's a big chunk of money sat there to pay the fine then it will either be set higher to ensure punishment or a different sentence will be given. If the court is not made aware of this money the defendent may face further charges should it come to light

OMG are you for real? You come on here thinking we are all airheads talking babies and buggies, not realising that more than a few of us actually work in law. You spout shite. You could Google of course but yanno carry on bumping the thread with this uninformed crap and show lurkers how it's not done.

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Save me reading back multiple pages someone and explain how we know it the Troon character who reported Jenni (or was it only the alleged blades and glass) to the police?
@YetAnotherSpartacus, we don't know for sure as (unless I've missed it) neither Gwent Police nor the troubled young person posting prolifically about stickers has said that it was said TYP who reported Jen. However, TYP has form for reporting the finding of stickers or posters with something sharp concealed behind them. Last year it was antivaxxer materials and a photograph of a hand with a cut across the palm was tweeted out as evidence. TYP claims this matter was reported to the police but it didn't lead to any charges that I know of, and TYP was unfortunately unable to hand the material and the razor over to the police because they had gone in the bin. As you do, with evidence of a criminal conspiracy you plan to report to the police. Hmm

Now we have JS arrested and Gwent Police appear to have told her she is suspected not just of putting up hateful stickers/posters but also concealing shards of glass or razor blades behind them so that anyone pulling them off will risk cutting themselves. If there is a shred of physical or photographic evidence to support this, I have not seen it.

I believe Gwent Police has said they had six complaints about Jen's stickers/posters. They have not said in what form or what kind of evidence was provided. If they were online complaints, I wonder what steps they took to check they were all from separate people. The TYP has not provided any photographic evidence of cuts this time but has been tweeting prolifically about the great work TYP and likeminded chum(s) do plastering their own materials over T*F materials, or attempting to remove said T*F materials first.

It would be a really remarkable coincidence if TYP had nothing to do with this, but I suppose it's possible there's another activist in the area watching and learning and it's down to them.

PS The T*n mention on the thread comes from a Twitter account which is now suspended. That's the person who first started digging into TYP's background and amazingly prolific tweeting.

Thank you Gaspode! That was a very generous explanation and I understand now.

I had not seen these, what a horrific thing to have government bodies come and "check your thinking".

It's akin to living in the USSR and the KGB turning up!

I mean I don't pretend to have vast knowledge of this issue at the moment and I'm always learning. In a personal capacity I'm also not a graduate (horrific DV during my university years made me leave uni and relocate back to my home city for safety, to give an idea I was freed from a house by live forearm squad after being held at knifepoint for a few days, and was taken immediately to hospital for "serious injuries)

But on the whole I wouldn't say I'm a stupid person, I've managed to get a junior management job in a industry, and was capable of my degree just never finished it. I had received 1st in all my assignments and projects before needing to leave. I'm going to have a bit of a search for any books and reading to widen my knowledge of this issue.

Flowers I'm so sorry about that whole experience of DV culminating in that event (and I'm assuming there was a mess of legal and other consequences).

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 29/01/2022 11:04

It's akin to living in the USSR and the KGB turning up!

It's been going on in the shadows for so long and now it's coming into the light. However, the consequences are so disproportionate for women that there is a huge amount of protective self edit and resentful compliance in play which gives political cover to "no-one else is complaining, you bigot".

Vaclav Havel: The Power of the Powerless

The manager of a fruit-and-vegetable shop places in his window, among the onions and carrots, the slogan: "Workers of the world, unite!" Why does he do it? What is he trying to communicate to the world? Is he genuinely enthusiastic about the idea of unity among the workers of the world? Is his enthusiasm so great that he feels an irrepressible impulse to acquaint the public with his ideals? Has he really given more than a moment's thought to how such a unification might occur and what it would mean?

I think it can safely be assumed that the overwhelming majority of shopkeepers never think about the slogans they put in their windows, nor do they use them to express their real opinions. That poster was delivered to our greengrocer from the enterprise headquarters along with the onions and carrots. He put them all into the window simply because it has been done that way for years, because everyone does it, and because that is the way it has to be. If he were to refuse, there could be trouble. He could be reproached for not having the proper decoration in his window; someone might even accuse him of disloyalty. He does it because these things must be done if one is to get along in life. It is one of the thousands of details that guarantee him a relatively tranquil life "in harmony with society," as they say.

Obviously the greengrocer is indifferent to the semantic content of the slogan on exhibit; he does not put the slogan in his window from any personal desire to acquaint the public with the ideal it expresses. This, of course, does not mean that his action has no motive or significance at all, or that the slogan communicates nothing to anyone. The slogan is really a sign, and as such it contains a subliminal but very definite message. Verbally, it might be expressed this way: "I, the greengrocer XY, live here and I know what I must do. I behave in the manner expected of me. I can be depended upon and am beyond reproach. I am obedient and therefore I have the right to be left in peace." This message, of course, has an addressee: it is directed above, to the greengrocer's superior, and at the same time it is a shield that protects the greengrocer from potential informers. The slogan's real meaning, therefore, is rooted firmly in the greengrocer's existence. It reflects his vital interests. But what are those vital interests?

Let us take note: if the greengrocer had been instructed to display the slogan "I am afraid and therefore unquestioningly obedient;' he would not be nearly as indifferent to its semantics, even though the statement would reflect the truth.

Yes! I'll say on this occasion the police were good to me. Two female officers came to hospital with me and stayed with me for a very long time till family were notified and another police force transported said family member to the hospital for me. The male officers also gave me space and understood that at that time female officers were probably of more comfort to me. The male DCI was also very kind and was genuinely horrified by the case, kept me up to date at all times and supported me. He was very patient during interviews and didn't seem to mind that we had to stop so much and take a break.

The individual was eventually charged with GBH, kidnapping and a bladed article offence. He received a custodial of double figures and due to the aggravated offence of kidnapping must serve 2/3 of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

It's so encouraging to read that was your experience of the police and that they behaved in such an appropriate way, sharing updates and support along the way. It sounds like a service with an excellent culture and leadership.

A kind member of the public has sent Jenni a picture of how trans activists react to stickers about domestic violence against women in the wild.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 29/01/2022 12:21

I sometimes wonder if the bulk of those that make up the number of trans people support such arrests and police interviews or consider them to be wholly disproportionate and disturbing in state overreach?

What does it feel like to be the human living shield for the creep of authoritarianism and thought totalism? (Lifton's "Eight Criteria for Thought Reform" is outlined below.) Nobody can want to live in that sort of society nor the one in Haclev's essay above, surely.

I really don't get this. If, as we keep getting told, trans women are women (God, I get irritable just typing it) then how is murderous male violence against women transphobic? The disconnect is staggering.

(If you think they believe their own propaganda, I suppose).

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 29/01/2022 12:38

Because there are very interesting stats around the murder of TW and what has happened to organisations that read out lists of dead women on particular days have been denounced for failing to include TW although there haven't been any such murders. I can't find that particular thread right now but there's this.

"Let’s begin with the clearest indicator of the extent to which a community is “marginalised and abused”: the murder rate of those within it. Because there is no stable definition of what constitutes a “trans person”, there is no standardised method for recording the deaths of trans people across the UK. However, we know that there have been just eight reported murders of people who defined themselves as transgender, transsexual or cross-dressers in the UK since reporting began in 2008. Even trans organisation Transrespect, which includes people who have committed suicide and people whose death was originally and erroneously treated as suspicious in their numbers for “murdered” victims, says the number from 2008 to 2020 is eleven."

Moreover, not one of even the eleven people Transrespect says were murdered, were killed due to “transphobia”. The victim in each case was typically murdered by a male sexual partner due to drugs or money issues. None were killed by a woman — and one was killed by a man who identifies as a woman.

@FailureToLurk I am very sorry that a man did that to you but I am glad that you were treated well by the police and the courts. I hope you feel like you got justice for the crimes committed against you.

I am encouraged by your account of your experience. I am sure there will be police officers lurking on here feeling more and more despondent when they read how women feel about the police service, so I hope they see what a good job, well done did for a woman.

I am confident that there are more police officers who do their job well than those who are corrupt, racist, sexist, any of the "ists".

However, it does all feel a bit Line Of Duty - I can't tell who is the goodie and who is the baddy.

And that is terrifying.

CompleteGinasaur · 29/01/2022 12:49

It's just the internal contradictions of what laughably passes as their own arguments that riles me. Fine and fair enough for them to argue (however badly) against an opposing viewpoint (say, any feminist argument actually deserving of the name), but the nonsense isn't even internally consistent!

CompleteGinasaur · 29/01/2022 12:55

Sorry, obvious rant over. Shouldn't inflict my not quite awake tetchiness on women who have, no doubt, much more relevant, less derail-y things to post. That would be me expecting to be blindly affirmed, treating this board like some kind of echo chamber... Smile
