Oh, thanks, @PurgatoryOfPotholes. And, of course, to @mammajustkilledagnat for posting the article.
Looking at the GG website, they list their "inclusion specialists", most of whom appear to have personal experience of the issue they are advising on - rather than the expertise you might assume someone has when they are described as "specialist". Which is interesting.
Who is giving Guiding information on which their policies are based? Who thinks that the appropriate response to concerned parents emails is to pass them onto the police? Anyone with real expertise or an ounce of common fucking sense would understand why MS is not a good fit, and when it all blew up and expert would be able to manage the situation, not panic and call 999.
Applying Occam's Razor to this shit show would make me think that Guiding got into this mess because they rely on a network of well meaning enthusiastic volunteers with personal insight into LGBT+ issues, who have been good Stonewall students but have no critical thinking or wider knowledge, who remember homophobia from their youth and are keen to make GG welcoming for the girl they used to be.
GG President is Sophie Wessex. I wonder what she makes of this? The last thing her family need right now is being associated with a safe guarding drama.
