www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10382291/Did-Hertfordshire-Police-force-break-uniform-code-transgender-trailblazer.html

One rule for women and another for transgender women.

Having long green nails and heavy makeup, breaches Hertfordshire Police Forces uniform policy, unless of course you're trans! Then you can do what you like to "feel like a woman".

And I repeat, a police force needs to be easily recognised by consistent cues in emergency situations
I have honestly never took notice of what a police officers nails looks like before.
Hardly a pressing matter in an emergency situation.

Babdoc · 09/01/2022 13:39

Cherry appears to have shot Cherryself in the foot. Either TWs are women or they are not. By not adhering to the rules for women officers, Cherry is clearly showing that they are not.

But I would absolutely bet you would notice if you suffered an injury while being handled by a police officer with long nails.

Just like I would also expect that nails like that would make that officer prone to injury themselves. Imagine the potential of tearing off nails in a chase, or simply handling equipment.

Really, it is not that hard.

VelvetChairGirl · 09/01/2022 13:46

@CheeseMmmm

What is interesting is the essential difference in the underlying social stuff.

Female officers can't decorate like that.
Why? Need to give impression serious, means business, don't try any shit with me fellas. I'm a police officer who happens to be female. I have authority and if you forget that police officer first then you're screwed.

How many female officers who out sharp end, would choose to have fancy nails and strong makeup?

I met an ex SO19 woman once.
I'm not sure that painted nails and makeup would go without MASSIVE (more interesting than her skills etc) media and public commentary about the nails (negative).

She quit because of constant daily sexist vile bullying.

And trust me she was nails. Just who you want doing that sort of thing.

I was always under the impression it was also for safety so it would be harder to identify the sex of an officer from a distance to try and minimize the arsehole cowards who would make a bee line to the female officer because they think they can beat her up/intimidate her/take her hostage. obviously talking about before they all had tazers ans stuff, but its pretty much always been the case.

and in other places too, school rules, army, CPS etc.

You are coming up with every swerve tactic imaginable to avoid answering the question as to why this particular officer is allowed to flout the rules when any other police officer would not be, why is that?
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 14:17

@NoNotMeNoSiree

It's make up! Seriously, I cannot get worked up over how much make up someone does or doesn't wear.
It's the job. The dress code for EVERYONE!
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 14:21

Your choices, preferences are as important as anyone elses. As in not in the slightest.

There is a dress code.

Every police officer abides by it, every time they are on duty.

The question you are refusing to answer is why is a transwomen exempt form the rules every other officer complies with.

All the bleating about policing women is so fucking ridiculous. Insultingly so. Like you imagine anyone reading your supposed argument has had their brains removed, replaced with a pumpkin!

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 09/01/2022 14:36

It comes down to policing women's appearances at the end of the day

Well no…it comes down to the police policing the appearance of the police

NoNotMeNoSiree · 09/01/2022 14:41

You can't tell from the photo how long her nails are.
The problem for some is that bright nail polish and make up is being worn.
Now there's nails that are long and could get ripped off?
There's no indication they're long nails at all.
You can just see green polish.

Helleofabore · 09/01/2022 14:48

It is clear they are longer than the finger in the picture on that article. Particularly if you look at the hand under the other hand.

Perhaps you just cannot see it.

Ok, but I really can't.
Couldn't give a toss whether police women wear make up or not.
Never even really noticed.
On the other hand you have people up in arms because how come you get to wear make up and I don't?
It's just make up.
Maybe it's because I never wear it but I don't care if trans women wear it or not.

You are spectacularly missing the point here.

No one would give a toss if the dress code for women police officers included as much make up as you wanted and long, painted nails.

But it doesn’t - it’s clear that those things aren’t allowed, so either Herts Police knows Cherry isn’t a woman and is therefore exempt from the rules for women, or they believe Cherry is a woman but don’t think the dress code applies to Cherry because virtue signalling.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 15:22

So, yet more playing chess with a fucking pigeon!

Helleofabore · 09/01/2022 15:25

Couldn't give a toss whether police women wear make up or not.

Errr. Because the dress code would state that make up be not heavily applied.

Meaning…. Not really noticeable.

See how that works?

Helleofabore · 09/01/2022 15:27

On the other hand you have people up in arms because how come you get to wear make up and I don't?

Are we on the same thread?

Seriously?

You cannot see the double standards? Why am I not surprised?

ViceLikeBlip · 09/01/2022 15:34

@NoNotMeNoSiree

I honestly don't get this. As in, she's wearing make up and nail varnish. So bloody what?! It can't be put down to anything like '' valid concerns, taking over toilets!'' I sometimes think anyone who is trans can't win (that's a saying in the UK, it doesn't mean trying to win an end game or anything!) Don't wear make up. '' You look too much like a bloke!!'' '' At least makes an effort - Stop appropriating womanhood! Who says you can wear makeup or nail varnish?! At least make it consistent. Or should it be that people shouldn't be trans at all? Genuinely (honestly) curious
Are you saying that life is not fair for trans women, because they don't look as much like women as women do?!
bhdsjhbs · 09/01/2022 15:38

Oh for heaven's sake. What is this brand of 'feminism' that GC feminists claim to champion that shames women for wearing make up? Cherry is one of several special officers (volunteers by the way) photographed wearing make-up and nail polish. The only thing different about her is that she's trans.

Helleofabore · 09/01/2022 15:41

bhdsjhbs

No feminism should be shaming anyone for wearing makeup. And they are not on this thread.

This is about double standards being applied and the standards for females being overlooked in this case.

Why should it have happened?

I don't shame women for wearing makeup (have a lot of respect for Kellie-Jay Keen

lovelyweathertoday · 09/01/2022 15:51

Damn, hit post by accident,

I was trying to say this isn't about women wearing makeup. It's about Cherry apparently being allowed to ignore the uniform rules that any woman would have to follow.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 09/01/2022 15:55

Exactly.
There was quite a lot of different police officers in the original series of tweets, which seemed to be about just showing them as normal (for want of a better word) human beings behind the uniform and not just a police officer.
All wearing differing amounts of make up.
Yet I didn't see anyone complaining that any of the non trans people were wearing too much mascara, the lipstick is too bright or whatever.
Strange, that.

FatFucker · 09/01/2022 15:57

A second photograph showed the officer sporting scarlet-red nails and fake eyelashes, sparking hundreds of messages of complaint.

The force* took the image down, warning that 'derogatory comments' would be 'reported'.*

Hertfordshire Constabulary said: 'We removed the tweet following unhelpful comments from a relatively small number, many of which were irrelevant to the meaning and spirit of the post.'

Relatively small number of comments or hundreds of messages of complaints! Which one was it??

I don't trust our Police Forces one little bit! They lie and lie.
