I'm interested in the author of this article and her point of view. I haven't come across Debbie Hayton before but she seems to be a transwoman who accepts that she remains biologically male, and that trans rights should not take away women's rights. I have literally never come across this before (and I am heartened by it). She describes herself as a transwoman (and also in other places, a transexual, which I thought was not allowed terminology these days).

Always happy to discuss and debate on here when posters are in good faith, simmons.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 05/01/2022 16:30

@simmonslulu Could you start a new thread please?

I don't want to start one naming you, that tends to get Those Who Monitor all annoyed.

But I would like to hear how you, as an individual transwoman, can make a stand against the TRA avalanche. (And I will check that you are not someone I know in real life... texting in 3....2....1)

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 05/01/2022 16:32

Nope! Grin

simmonslulu · 05/01/2022 16:33

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

What is wrong with talking on mumsnet? Why would we walk to switch to a 280-character micro-blogging site, when you're permitted 15,000 characters per post here?
Nothing at all, it just that previously a lot of posters said that I had no business being on MN or specifically the feminist area because I was a transwoman.

Perhaps MNHQ could clarify if this is the case?

I am happy to debate, although given that I accept almost entirely the TERF perspective on this issue it might be limited.

Of course

That's because, unlike the opinion of some, we really are not Borg. We do have very varied opinions.

You are as welcome here as any man, until you are not. And you'd have to go some to reach the heights, plumb the depths, of mansplaining gobshitery that eventually induces MNHQ to ban the bastards.

Some posters, like Tinsel for example, will be against it. But then posters like Tinsel have every damn right to feel that way. Check out any of her more reecent posts and see links to the TransWidows stories being collated and you will very, very quickly realise why, for many, no man, no matter how they identify or how nicely they speak, has the right to post comfortably, if at all, here.

If we accept your TERVEN nature as a given then the conversation would be entirely based around what, if anything, you feel able to do to stand up and be counted, to fight the TRA battery of women's rights.

A conversation I personally would like to have at least once here before broaching it quite so baldly with a friend who says he is TERVEN but has not had any idea of standing up and being counted as such amongst his trans friends.

I remember Tinsel from a previous thread, thank you for an explanation of the context.

TERVEN???

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 05/01/2022 16:47

Adjective - like a TERF Smile

Thank you, previously someone described me as being a transcum but I googled it and it did not seem an accurate description of my views.
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 05/01/2022 16:53

Oh, that would have been TRUSCUM

A perjorative word used by TRAs to describe any transwoman who knows they are male, is in any way terven, etc.

Like being a race traitor. It's a one way ticket out of favour.

And is the reason my friend is currently not speaking up. He values his current networking groups and is wholly aware he will lose them, one and all, if he speaks out.

Doomscrolling · 05/01/2022 16:55

@simmonslulu

TERVEN???
Sending love to @TinselAngel for being a tireless shero.
Doomscrolling · 05/01/2022 16:55

That word gives me the absolute fucking rage. Anyone who calls another human being any variant of 'scum' is beyond contempt.
simmonslulu · 05/01/2022 17:12

Yes TRUSCUM, I really had no idea but I am not surprised.

Agreed

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 05/01/2022 17:13

I know. I can't remember exactly where I saw it first but it engendered such a visceral reaction in me that I automatically flinch and make a negative judgement on the person writing/saying it.

Just another way to dehumanise someone who disagrees with you - tra la la!

bishophaha · 05/01/2022 17:24

I think it refers to some subset of what we might have called transsexuals, those who believe gender dysphoria is a requirement to be trans or who who see medical intervention as part and parcel of being trans.

As opposed to those who think trans is an identity and that the problems trans people experience are largely due to transphobia so don't need any physical changes to oneself etc.

Artichokeleaves · 05/01/2022 18:55

I think what was explained a lot on the previous thread was that this is a female rights forum, where the conversation focuses on female needs, issues and voices.

There have been many, many threads in the past of TW posting here to explain all about their needs, views, feelings, wishes, which is still in essence a male person wishing female people to invest in male needs, views, feelings, issues, instead of their own. Some female people are going to point out to you: the whole issue about trying to repair the damage to female rights, equality and access right now is a lot of time listening to and centering male people over female people.

Join in with threads by all means, it is not that any voice is unwelcome, there's a lot of 'robust debate' going on across multiple threads. But the male entitlement issue is a very familiar one here, and this is one very small corner of the internet where it gets spotted and told its fortune very quickly. I'll add to that - any male of any identity posting a 'man here to share wisdom' tends to get his behind handed to him in a sparkly bag. And there's also no way of knowing with most posters here who is female and who is male - unless they make a point of stating it and make it relevant to the conversation.
