I'm interested in the author of this article and her point of view. I haven't come across Debbie Hayton before but she seems to be a transwoman who accepts that she remains biologically male, and that trans rights should not take away women's rights. I have literally never come across this before (and I am heartened by it). She describes herself as a transwoman (and also in other places, a transexual, which I thought was not allowed terminology these days).

Only got to page one before hey presto, one TW politically leaping in to silence, discredit and disparage another TW who's not holding the political line.

And that tells you all you need to know really. Just to mention too, we're talking about two professional, well known TW here, this can't be brushed off as two kids on Twitter.

lovelyweathertoday · 04/01/2022 15:59

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

Then you’ll also be happy to talk about the NASUWT guidance, and whether you still stand by what you wrote in it?

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But no, answering that question doesn't benefit Hayton in any way so it gets ignored.

Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 16:01

I'll reminisce too that the most genuinely horrible, nasty put down I have ever seen on MN (and that includes AIBU) was addressed from a TRA poster to a trans person who dared to have a different view and opinion.

Tolerance, love, kindness and respect for diversity in this political lobby? Oh that there ain't. At all. This isn't a trans movement, it's a political movement frantically hushing and vanishing any dissenting voices amongst LGBT+ people. Thanks for the highly useful demo.

Fallingirl · 04/01/2022 16:45

If a male teacher has AGP, having the children call him ‘miss’ would be involving the children in his sexual fetish.

This can never, ever, ever be right, and is a huge safeguarding breach.

Ironic that you post this directly after several GC commenters are also trying to silence, discredit and disparage the same TW for not towing the political line.
TinselAngel · 04/01/2022 17:03

I don't think safeguarding is a political line?

bishophaha · 04/01/2022 17:08

Only popping onto this thread to say I've been looking out for R0 for some time - Happy new year!

@DebbieInBirmingham

Hello *@Gingerbreadrules*

You can find my other work on my blog at debbiehayton.com Its probably fair to say that my ideas divide opinion here and in other places, but am keen to debate with those who disagree with me as well as those who agree with me.

My campaign is to protect the rights of transsexual people but without compromising the sex-based rights of women or the safeguarding of children. I am open to persuasion - I've changed my mind on issues in the past and may do so again on the future.

There are a few transsexuals who think similarly to me and are willing to speak out. I know rather more who are getting on with life and keeping their heads down.

The only way is stealth. A GR certificate is now a liability. Just burn it and stand by what is on the replacement birth certificate. Real TS don't go through the transition process to become something in between.
Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 17:26

And that's relevant how?

I think you'll find the point was the illustration of how those at the forefront of what they call 'trans rights', and professional well known public figures, are absolutely intolerant of trans people who don't hold the political party line demanded of them. And wish very much to give the impression that those trans voices don't really exist.

Rather like the desperate repetition that females affected by this politics don't really exist. And safeguarding issues affected by this politics don't really exist.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 17:26

I’m curious as to why the question on whether Dr Hayton stands by the school guidance never gets answered.

I’ve seen it asked numerous times.

Why not?

Also very curious about the rules regarding which people are “correctly” trans and which people aren’t, and who gets to decide, which again, I have never seen answered.

Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 17:28

It's all rather "We speak for trans people! (But not those ones!)"

Rather like "We represent all LGBT+ people! (But not those LGBT+ people who have different political beliefs)" from Stonewall.

This isn't a trans movement, this isn't an LGBT+ movement, it's a political lobby movement where the one and only defining characteristic that unifies all members is an agreement with the political ideology. Let's be honest about this.

MrBIobby · 04/01/2022 17:29

they should be allowed to use the toilets appropriate to the gender in which they are presenting.

This is problematic. What about safeguarding for women and girls? Do you still hold the positions that those who 'identify' as women should still use women's spaces?

If so, why?

lovelyweathertoday · 04/01/2022 17:54

I think the answer as to why we never get an answer lies here

I'm always happy to answer questions about my own work, including the Quillette piece on autogynephilia

This is what DH wants to discuss.

Well, that's reassuring. 'Stealth', aye?

'Real' TS?

I'd also like to hear answers on these questions.

Some posters are very selective in what they choose to respond to.

Yes, the silent old guard "who are getting on with life and keeping their heads down". Beyond the reach of GC people.
Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 18:15

I'm afraid that ship has long since sailed, and it wasn't GC people who shoved it over the horizon.

Female people are not resources to suck up disadvantage and provide for male people's needs by their presence. There's no way back to where things were before the TRAs broke this.

OldCrone · 04/01/2022 18:17

Beyond the reach of GC people.

Keeping out of women's spaces then. Good to hear it.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 18:30

No?

That’s it? A flat no.

Given the utter lack of respect for women inherent in that statement, I really would like to know why any woman should respect your position. Mutual respect clearly not forthcoming, is it?

So, respectfully, I counter your “no” with a “no, thank you” to your demands.

Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 18:35

And there you see why mixed sex spaces don't work for females. Never have, and never will.

And then we have it. Women you fucking do what you're told. Men demand access to you.

End of.

Still, at least it's all there for everyone to see.

That's what it looks like.

My question still remains.

How can a male with AGP support women and their rights, while simultaneously writing guidelines that make your pupils call you miss and means you use the female facilities?

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 04/01/2022 18:48

I think it’s also really important here to note that we’re not purely asking about what Dr Hayton does personally. This is about what the wider question of what the NASUWT guidelines say that schools and transgender teachers in general should be doing.

Indeed. It's across-the-board guidance.
