Massive and enormous thank yous to Motorina and Miss Lucy and all the other hugely knowledgeable posters, and the tribunal tweeters, for all the reasoned analysis into this. It has made it possible for a layperson like me to follow, and this has been such a fast moving thread that it's been like watching a TV courtroom drama!!

Huge thanks to you all, and Flowers to everyone affected by this individual and his disgraceful behaviour.

NotBadConsidering · 30/11/2021 21:40

Shame there isn’t a professional board for journalists to whom Ben Hunte could be reported for his persistent propaganda pieces. There was a good point made under his tweet. He contributes to a general suspicion of all news, by clearly misrepresenting the outcome (and his own role in it!). He is just as morally bankrupt as organisations like Fox News. At least the right wing media is winking 😉 with its propaganda.

Motorina · 30/11/2021 21:43

You're very welcome.

The decision on sanction is now available online via tribunaltweets.

Reading it, it's really hard to see how Harrop can spin it as a win. That's especially true since his lawyer argued that a suspension was not necessary (and at stage 2 had argued that only a written warning was necessary.) This is explicitely not the outcome Harrop was arguing was appropriate.

The decision is couched clearly in terms of there being a low risk of repetition. I see this going two ways. Either there really is no repetition, in which case Harrop is effectively silenced, at least in public. Or there will be further repetition, in which case further proceedings and a more substantial sanction are inevitable.

Again it's hard to see that being permanently silenced on this issue could be claimed as a win for Harrop. Hopefully that gives his victims some comfort.

Well said @Motorina. And another vote of thanks to you and @MissLucyEyelesbarrow for all your helpful explanations.

Brilliant update, so he is likely to stop saying unprofessional derogatory and threatening things against people who speak the truth, or if he does he will face drastic consequences.

Truth wins!

That is hideous. How is he still a doctor?

Excellent summation as usual @Motorina and I add myself to the chorus of "thank you for your insights" directed to yourself and @MissLucyEyelesbarrow Thanks

I'll admit to being initially disappointed but have reflected (😂) and think the panel have actually played a blinder.

Effectively it's 2 months not one month due to the GP registration.

It's a serious sanction (regardless of length) that he will have to declare for the rest of his career.

Yet it hit a tipping point that made it difficult for him to appeal against - which might not have been the case for a longer term.

Fundamentally he's left with the Sword of Damocles hanging over him for the rest of his career.

That's no small thing.

littlbrowndog · 30/11/2021 22:56

He kinda went under his own delusion that he was righteous

So he could say what he wanted in the belief of his righteousness

Like a prophet

Sure he still believes he is a prophet or will he take a step back ?

Mollyollydolly · 30/11/2021 22:57

Glinner's article has made me rage all over again. How can ribbons be a hate crime and the abuse Caroline suffered isn't.
I don't GAF what her personal beliefs are, this is evil.
How come there were no criminal prosecutions?
This is why I preemptively block all the worse TRAs on twitter. Don't engage with these lunatics.

Good god. Although I knew most of that, seeing it all there chronologically is still horrifying. These men are bloody dangerous.

I also didn't know that the man who set up that website to torment Caroline Farrow has been identified. Has anything happened to him?

littlbrowndog · 30/11/2021 23:08

Yeah what he did to Caroline

Showed us what h3 is

He won’t change. Will just hide it better

NotTerfNorCis · 30/11/2021 23:10

Now the author John Boyne is speaking out:

twitter.com/john_boyne/status/1465818552104067077

Speaking as somone who was frequently attacked & harassed by now-disgraced GP Adrian Harrop, I'm delighted to see the General Medical Council has suspended his licence because of his toxic online behaviour. I hope he learns from this. Be better, Adrian.

Whitefire · 30/11/2021 23:16

Caroline I am so sorry for all that you have endured. I hope the love and support of your friends and family get you through this.

Scraggythang · 30/11/2021 23:18

He’s a nutter, he won’t be able to stop being one even after this suspension. The urge to seethe and harass women is too strong!

PatsArrow · 30/11/2021 23:19

Reading that post about Caroline Farrow on Glinners substack was shocking.

I thought I knew all that happened but I didn't know half of it. I know it's easy for me to say it but she'd have a strong civil case wouldnt she? It's doxing, revenge porn, stalking and harrassment and probably lots of other things too.

Poor woman. The things said and done to her and her children are just beyond the pale.

PatsArrow · 30/11/2021 23:21

Sorry I didn't realise Caroline might be here. If you are Caroline, I'm just speechless at what's happened to you. Thanks

Hurrah.

John Boyne’s certainly gone up in my estimation lately. He looked like he was being ‘educated’ when the TRA social media storm about his YA novel kicked off, but it certainly did not have the desired effect in the long-run which has been heartening to see.

Agreed and the irony of his claims in Vice that there was an "orchestrated campaign" against him isn't lost on me.

FissionMailed · 01/12/2021 00:13

I don't know if Caroline has ever thought about a private criminal prosecution.
No police involved. Charge Harrop with harassment and cyber bullying etc.

Tons of YouTube and online resources to guide through it.

💐Caroline I think it's safe to say we're ready to dig if you need us. “Sometimes when you are in a dark place you think you have been buried, but actually you have been planted.” [Christine Caine]

Cleanmean · 01/12/2021 06:51

Delighted with the verdict. He is a nasty piece of work. Can we set up a support fund for Caroline in case she wants to pursue a civil case?
