It's one of those sentences that sounds like it's some weird satire, my brain refuses to believe that this is real.

They are probably Airsoft rifles.

It's a competitive game/sport similar to paintballs, heralding from Japan. The rifles, although looking real, fire small plastic balls at regulated safe speeds.

(You could still lose an eye or a tooth, but skin contact is no worse than a bee sting).

Think Call of Duty video game meets paintball. It's pretty innocuous IMO.

(Assuming they are indeed Airsoft rifles)

Plenty of people do it in the UK, so if these photos were dug out of her social media accounts, it doesn't mean that much really.

I'd be more concerned about the publicly shared BDSM stuff myself.

As YetAnotherSpartacus pointed out on the other thread, the response seems to be to remove all references to 'team' from the GG website!

This is incendiary. The sooner it is dealt with the better. THIS is why women are angry.

KaleKebab, one of the photographs circulating is of this person in uniform holding a gun. If in uniform, it's not a private activity, and gun use or references to violence of any form goes against GG guidelines (and ethos, though the ethics seem to be disappearing rapidly).

@TurquoiseBaubles - the uniform doesn't mean a whole lot IMO (unless it's a GG one) as Airsoft players buy their own kit, and said kit is typically military simulation in nature, just like the replica firearms.

Now if said references to violence are against the GG ethos/charter/whatever, then fair enough. All I'm stating is that to my eye/experience, it's less chilling/less likely to put children at any risk than the BDSM stuff.

(Again, all opinions predicated on the pictures featuring Airsoft rifles, as opposed to actual rifles)

I think its all linked my former workmates did airsoft they posted pictures of themselves all together with big smiles on their faces at the range or whatever its called arms over the shoulders congratulating themselves on a win etc, they would post pictures of their new kit showing just the airsoft gun on a table or something focusing on the weapon itself.

here you have BDSM pictures and lone person at home aiming a gun, thats painting a narrative of violence and contol fetishism IMHO

@QueenSue there was an article recently listing various batshit crazy stuff that’s happened and ironically asking whether the Terfs had planted these individuals to strengthen our position because you couldn’t make it up! That came to mind when I read this. I’ll try and find the article.

Oh yes, that miniscule minority of Terfs who are irrelevant, don't know what they are talking about and yet somehow manage to infiltrate and plant people in various places to strengthen our position, couldn't possibly be that our warnings were right, could it.

I’m so upset by this thread. I keep refreshing it and I’ve got nothing to say. I don’t even know what I’m allowed to say. The part where they know about the issue and all they’ve done is hide information on their website!

I absolutely don't claim to be an expert on GG and what they do/don't allow - my DD is too young for that sort of thing.

I was just aiming to provide context as to what the photo the GG leader with a firearm >may< be, for those unfamiliar with Airsoft. The point I was trying to make is that it could easily be more innocuous than 'maniac posing with real rifles', which is what the photo could appear to be.

On @VelvetChairGirl's point - I kind of agree and kind of don't. For example, DH has photos of him posed with his kit. Admittedly they taken because he was posing for art to be featured in board game, but downloaded from his DropBox and stripped of context you may assume he's unhinged!

FWVLIW, I agree with the broader points being made. I just wanted to say there may be more nuance to the detail than the most extreme possible readings one could make of those photos.

(also - seems pretty naff to be posing with [assumed] Airsoft guns in GG uniform. Thanks for letting me know that was the uniform featured)

I think you will find it is not a 'no guns' policy. But a policy regarding what the gun is pointing at.

Our local guides and scouts both go rifle shooting at paper targets at an indoor rifle range.

The issue with this person is how they are handling guns and posing with them etc. Not that they own guns, or that they shoot.

One of the pictures on social media was of this person dressed in a leather dominatrix outfit with a cane/riding crop, referring to themself as a “mistress”.

Given the history of the pornographic dominatrix “mistress”/teacher vs schoolgirl/schoolboy trope, how can anyone think this is appropriate for someone working with 10-14 year old girls?

“Mistress” BDSM roleplaying and gun play displayed on public media. GG think this is all right?!

I don't think complaining to GG will do anything. I think a concerned email to our MPs, and maybe writing to the Times/Daily Mail, both of whom haven't shied away from the Trans debate. Keep it factual and to safeguarding concerns to help the case not be dismissed as 'scaremongering', 'pearl-clutching' and 'anti-trans'

A biological woman would have lost her position at lightning speed on the discovery of a social media account like this...

I've written to them anyway. One thing I raised and would be interested if anyone else knows the answer, is how their inclusion policy for trans works with Guides from Muslim or Orthodox Jewish backgrounds, where they would not be allowed to be in a group with boys.
