So, the Hogwarts turncoats are getting back together, sans Rowling.

They have a brass neck, that's for sure.

Happy to ring every last penny they can out of the franchise whilst continuing to sell Rowling down the river.

Zero moral compass between them. Either they back Rowling, and thank her for the fact anyone other than their mum knows they exist, or they renounce and walk away. You dont get to have it both ways.

@jk_rowling is a humane, principled woman who puts pressing worries about the outlook of women and girls over shallow concerns about her own fame and reputation. If only more people had her guts. Of course #IStandWithJKRowling always.

FindTheTruth · 17/11/2021 11:08

there is no way she has not fully signed off the documentary and press release. She is renowned for her close involvement and creative control of all aspects of Harry Potter and she is all over copyright and trademarking detail. It's not an accident she's the wealthiest author ever.

Good post @FKATondelayo

If I owed my entire career to 1 person, if I'd known her since I was 8, if I was worth $90m because of her, then not only would I defend her when maligned but I would refuse to take part in any reunion that excluded her. But that's just me. #JKRowling

@picklemewalnuts

I loved the films because of the visual delight they brought to the wizarding world. They didn't improve the stories, develop the characters, or enhance the original in any way, they simply translated it into visual media. Now that in itself is a great skill, an amazing art, and should be celebrated. It's the underlying work of JKR that makes them great, though. Otherwise they'd just be visual candy floss.
Yes

We watch the films on a regular basis and have visited the florida parks

All of which owe everything to JKR, its incredibly immersive, fantastic effects etc

digitalvertigo · 17/11/2021 11:15

The way they turned on JK is the most spineless virtue signalling nonsense, especially Emma Watson who epitomises waffling on about being 'nice and kind la la la' but says nothing of any substance and what they did was anything but nice.
Me and my friends are the same age as them and grew up with the books, this whole thing is just bizarre to them and will be to 99% of the general public.
I'd love to write to JK, has anyone had any luck before with a publisher address etc?

Eh, JK Rowling is completely overrated as a writer, the films are way better
Bollocks.
TheMarzipanDildo · 17/11/2021 11:18

John Boyne‘s on a bit of a roll at the moment isn’t he? It’s very cheering.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 17/11/2021 11:21

Tom Felton was the best of the 4 of them

I think the special effects, the ‘world’ and the awesome adult actors carried the films…at least til the other 3 got a wee bit better

I loved the books as a child/teenager and they were a huge part of my adolescence.

However I've never really understood the whole obsession with the 'universe' and the subsequent expansions of it. How many times can you flog a dead horse?

I personally lost support of JKR when she received flack for supporting the business that produced anti-bisexual memorabilia and anti-queerism. It was just a bit icky, read the room.

Of all the small businesses she could have supported it had to be one that promoted criticism of a very well established sexuality. That and get the 'L' out of LGBT was just too much.

It felt as though lesbianism was being fetishised over any other sexuality.

It’s not fetishism at all, what a strange thing to say. The whole get the L out thing was to do with the fact that Stonewall seem to ignore lesbians altogether. Which has always been a bit of an issue in the LGBT movement.
TheMarzipanDildo · 17/11/2021 11:27

“I personally lost support of JKR when she received flack

Also this suggests a slight lack of critical thinking.

nauticant · 17/11/2021 11:32

She is renowned for her close involvement and creative control of all aspects of Harry Potter and she is all over copyright and trademarking detail.

The trade marks in the UK are owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. However, I expect that behind that is a broader IP and merchandising agreement meaning that WB are effectively managing and policing the rights while JKR has a degree of control and royalties. I would love to know the details.

PrinzessinCressida · 17/11/2021 11:45

JK Rowling is a woman of great courage, intelligence and integrity. I can think of few people in the public eye who I admire more. From what some of you who are knowledgeable about films and copyright are saying, I would like to think that this is happening with her approval and she has deliberately sat back on this one, either a. not to court controversy and hijack the celebration, or even b. to let the whole shitshow play out, highlight the hypocrisy of those 3 ingrates, and watch as the TRAs turn on them, too, and show the world the idiotic, noxious and narcissistic nature of their arguments. Bring it all to the fore again, but stay out of it this time. I would not be surprised. As I say, she's a smart woman.

I sincerely hope this is what JKR is doing and it wouldn’t surprise me, she is a clever woman.

Why? What did they do wrong?

AFAIK Ms K was invited but chose not to turn up. Was it because the rest of the cast are LGBT-friendly and she doesn't want to be around them because of that?

nauticant · 17/11/2021 12:15

It's always interesting to see one of our posters here decide on which woman to target next.

SweetPetrichor · 17/11/2021 12:22

I don't see the harm - they're getting together to celebrate the anniversary of the film. The films are their particular spotlight - they can get back together and talk about that without it being about JK. The films, the franchise, mean a lot to many people and it is perfectly possible to enjoy something without approving of the creator. I wouldn't wish to have anything to do with the likes of JKR, I find her a horrific person, but that doesn't meant the content she has created is necessarily tarnished. I think it's perfectly acceptable for the actors to be able to look back on the anniversary of the first film. Lets face it, the films wouldn't be the same without them. It's a two sided thing - JKs stories create the content for the films, but the films are carried by all those who made them what they are - scenery creators, cast, directors, props. This isn't a one-woman thing. The films reach a further audience as well. The books are fine, they touched many people - including my childhood self - but they weren't great literature!

Yeah, she’s awful isn’t she? All that money to charity, all that support of women’s issues. How horrible.
Seriously, give your head a wobble.

Yes, lots of people here including me emailed her agency/publishers and recieved some very nice emails back (and weren’t stock replies either) but sorry, I can’t remember the email address. Maybe someone who does will PM it to you

The aggression and demands from TRAs on this are quite something to behold aren't they.

I can't think of any other oppressed minority Hmm that would be so self assured Hmm

nauticant · 17/11/2021 12:36

Here's how this is being reported on the twitter news service:

Entertainment outlets report that JK Rowling is not mentioned among members of the Harry Potter film franchise appearing in a 20th anniversary special on HBO Max, due to air January 1
On Tuesday, WarnerMedia announced names of crew members and alums who will feature in the special, with no mention of Rowling. Sources close to the project told The Hollywood Reporter that Rowling will be featured in the archival footage, but the anniversary special focussed on "the creation of the film and the central cast/team."

For years trans activists have been going "Cancel culture? What are you talking about? JK Rowling hasn't been silenced so how can you say she's been cancelled?" Well, if this isn't a form of cancellation what is it?
