I am so pleased with this news, however it just should never, ever have got to this.

Hear hear.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 10/11/2021 19:28

We all remember being told gay people were predators and lesbians were a threat in single-sex spaces.

Like others here, I don't remember this at all. And I'm remembering back to the 1960s. I remember some mockery of effeminate gay men eg in sitcoms. Neither gay men or lesbians were ever described to me as a threat.

Why would they be? Gay men didn't enter women's single-sex spaces. And neither they nor lesbians were known for assaulting women.

It's having males in single-sex spaces that is a real danger to women and children. As we are finding out in real life now.

BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 19:39

@Datun

- into meaning 'ONLY those who believe in this particular political agenda and ideology', and this is the ONLY thing they have in common.

They are actively excluding LGBT+ people who do not share this one partisan political view while at the same time claiming to speak for all of them.

This is correct.

They are actually appropriating the word homosexuality, turning it into something different, but pretending it's the same in order to push the 'something different'.

It should be illegal.

Homosexuality has a legal definition, and you cannot change it to push transgenderism.

This was the biggest single scandal, in my opinion, of the Nolan podcast.

The complete re-definition of homosexual, to mean what the fuck you like, as long as you can push transgenderism by appropriating it.

I can't help wondering what the fuck they were thinking?

Did no-one actually sit them down and say, er, there are an awful lot more homosexual men and women, than there are cross dressers, transvestites and HSTS's.

There should definitely be a law to make deliberately misrepresenting laws illegal.
Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 10/11/2021 19:41

About time!

Thegreenray · 10/11/2021 19:47

I complained to the BBC a really long time ago now about their choosing (in their News Style Guide) to define "homosexuality" to mean same gender attraction (and they define gender the TRA way). I've received repeated delays to them responding to me, with a couple of invitations for me to complain about this to Ofcom. They clearly want to pass the buck. I'm now wondering whether they'll actually acknowledge that their definition of homosexuality is wrong? That would be something.
I feel really strongly about this attempt to change the English language (the dictionary definition will be the next target) to expunge acceptance of the existence of same sex attraction. It's despicable.

I commented elsewhere wrt lesbians but if we lump "queer identities" in with all the types of people covered by Stonewall's "trans umbrella", I believe actual LGB people, especially out LGB people, are outnumbered.

RepentMotherfucker · 10/11/2021 19:53

Nancy Kelley is having a good year isn't she? O see a good old fashioned 'stepping down to focus on my family' and a new broom by January.

She must be spotting feathers that Ruth - who is responsible for all of this - got to swan off with all the honours.

The Young Minds website does the same.

@Blackopal

Reaction of relief mixed with absolute fury.

How can this have been allowed to happen? Impartial reporting is supposed to be the basic. The BBC allowed itself to be dominated by Stonewall and their reporting on the issue has been slanted for years. What effect has this had on the situation of questioning children/ lesbian spaces and women in general?
Massive step forward but alot to answer for.

Same for Offsted, D of E, how dare they have accepted this organisation to dominate their policies with this snowballing downwards to children?

So much respect for all the women that have led the charge on this, applying pressure and being villified. Losing careers, reputations and friends. I am so pleased with this news, however it just should never, ever have got to this.

Even the NSPCC seems to believe in Trans Gender Ideology which is a bit worrying given their supposed role in child safeguarding: www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/sex-relationships/gender-identity/

It is all stated as if it is factual....on a spectrum....and.....assigned at birth.
Am I being unfair?

Oh yes, I think this often. Ruth left awfully suddenly didn't be she, with nothing lined up?

Wonder if Nancy will hang around for the Allison Bailey court case. That's going to be absolutely toxic for Stonewall.

BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 20:51

@NoToast

Especially now the bbc can report on it.

OhHolyJesus · 10/11/2021 20:53

@Chrestomanci3

The BBC article was on the homepage when I saw the news here about an hour ago. It is now buried part-way down the Entertainment news page - are they hoping no one will notice?
Others have noticed
RepentMotherfucker · 10/11/2021 20:59

Maybe Nancy needs a Golden Bridge.

Shall we build one in FWR?

We could hide a sharpened spoon in a rainbow/unicorn cake and smuggle it in to her? (For her to tunnel out before anyone starts!)

OhHolyJesus · 10/11/2021 20:59

Oh and Mumsnet gets a mention...👏🏻

(Who is that trip trapping on my bridge?)

PeriChristmas · 10/11/2021 21:02

Whoop whoop! Cheers, vipers. Wine

It should have been clear which way the wind was blowing when she took the job on but even if it wasn’t she has done her best to make things worse for herself with that antisemitism line. Not the tiniest bit of sympathy.
twelly · 10/11/2021 21:22

The sooner the whole agenda is ditched by all organisation the better - we have become a society that has allowed the minority to dictate to the majority. There is a world of difference between ensuring equality and "live and let live" to the current situation where only one view had been allowed and where opposing views have been silenced.

dolorsit · 10/11/2021 21:34

I was born early 70's, I can remember some media worries about gay men and children but I think this was mainly the fallout from PIE and the mistaken belief that men who assaulted boys were gay.

The only time I remember lesbians being described as predators was by men who were being dismissive of women needing female only spaces.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 10/11/2021 21:51

Love 'started on Mumsnet' FlowersSmile

Am hoping that this development will also mean an end to this kind of reporting

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-53410019

There must have been actual thought go into writing that article without mentioning the fact that sex offender is actually male. The Stonewall influenced editorial policy presumably meaning that male crimes must be reported as female crimes if the perp feels like a woman? And it's only from just over a year ago!

DevonTF · 10/11/2021 21:51

So bloody happy right now.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 10/11/2021 21:52

Well done to the Nolan report, but even more well done to all the women (and Glinner!) who did the ground work that eventually made the Nolan report possible, but who were derided and ignored.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 10/11/2021 21:54

I have to say, looking on Twitter, there isn't quite as much outcry about this as I would have expected - yes the usual suspects are up in arms, but even on their replies and retweets there are a lot of 'impure views'!

I can't quite believe it to be honest.

TractorAndHeadphones · 10/11/2021 22:03

As a bisexual woman - the absolute cheek of stonewall to blab about the rights of LGBTQ+ people when their agenda is solely focused on the T, with flashing rainbow lights.
@Blackopal has it right relief mixed with absolute fury.
