Assuming this is a way for predominantly children to circumvent parents and get their hands on a binder.

This is fucking barbaric and reminds me of Keyser Soze in The Usual Suspects - here the trick being pulled is making girls actively want to be complicit in their own physical torture Angry

KittenKong · 14/11/2021 12:05

When my big sister was in 6th year it was ‘the thing’ for some girls to cut their wrists. God alone knows why - I assume there must’ve been some girls (always girls) in genuine emotional/mental distress, but oddly enough, my year didn’t have this at all.

FlyingOink · 14/11/2021 12:16

I mentioned this on the AIBU thread but the gc2b UK website shows its cheapest binder as £30.
So these are being subsidised by someone. They don't cost £7.

everythingthelighttouches · 14/11/2021 12:27

Don’t bother complaining to lush. Complain to consumer standards, advertising authority, MHRA, your MP!!!

They need to be held to account.

And there needs to be a serious review of whether binders are a medical device (and should be regulated).

KittenKong · 14/11/2021 12:46

Their store must be rented from - now who would own Paddington Station? I wonder if they’d be happy that the wholesome Paddington bear image is being associated with bodying harm to little girls?

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 14/11/2021 13:07

Good point - I will do!

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 14/11/2021 13:08

Thank you! A few typos 🤦‍♀️ did it on my phone and fuelled by anger!

AliceWo · 14/11/2021 13:21

I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if it's been mentioned. I expect this is Lush's grovelling atonement for being accused of being transphobic last year for giving money to the Woman's Place.

Agree with you absolutely everythingthelighttouches

Might be good to also copy in the medicines and healthcare regulatory agency (MHRA) too to remind them that binders are medically dangerous devices unregulated in the UK and seemingly being promoted as being necessary for good mental health for some young women. Without no proper evidence of benefit to their mental health long term. And no regulatory protection of these patients or consumers from the inevitable and possibly irreversible harms to their health if they use binders long term.

Sorry just seen that you have a thread on this, excellent question: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4401386-Why-aren-t-binders-a-regulated-medical-device

Lush decide to stop using social media until it's "safer"

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59380458.amp

Would that be because of the criticism they've had over the binders I wonder?

Honestly, why are people so threatened by alternative opinions?

Imnobody4 · 23/11/2021 10:33

Oh the irony (from article ^)
"I've spent all my life avoiding putting harmful ingredients in my products. There is now overwhelming evidence we are being put at risk when using social media," said Mark Constantine, co-founder and chief executive of Lush.

"I'm not willing to expose my customers to this harm, so it's time to take it out of the mix."

IntemperateSpirits · 23/11/2021 10:33

That BBc article is word salad pish - if he were making a point about social media being awful, that's one thing; but it does seem the "harm" he's referring to, is his customers being disagreed with.

spfy · 13/07/2022 16:31

Is this still ongoing?

CharlotteOH · 13/07/2022 16:47

foxgoosefinch · 08/11/2021 21:33

fucking hell, what next? If mum and dad don't think you should have porn or some off-label recreational drugs, we'll offer you a handy collection point to have them delivered?

Right side of history, my arse. You know you're not good people when you're creating secret spaces for minors to access things unsafeguarded and unmonitored so that their parents don't know.
