To a professor of philosophy who was hounded out of her job because some students didn't like her views? Who had to walk past stickers on the wall with her name on them calling for her to be fired, at the workplace she has been at for years? Who saw young men with balaclavas on, saying they will do whatever it takes to ensure she loses her job?

Oh, but she is on the telly now, so everything is OK then.....

The interview with LK was fascinating. It reminded me of the religious programming on American sponsored channels, when an evolutionary scientist would be invited on to be challenged by the presenter who was a committed 'Intelligent Design' believer. Kelly insisted on stating 'TWAW', I guess to try to avoid the death/rape threats that would have inevitably followed, but also as a sort of religious incantation.

I wonder who came up with the idea to invite Doc Stock. The producer, or Kelly herself? I have speculated if it was intended to expose LK to her viewers in a way LK probably didn't enjoy - i.e someone is not being very friendly to LK in her own tam. Things are a bit different now and LK's audience is rather more skeptical of the whole 'TWAW' now than it might have been 12 months ago.

Kelly though is much respected as an ally to the TRA's. I suspect over the next few days they'll decide that she allowed Stock off, platformed her views (Material Girls hasn't even gone into paperback and its sold-out several times over) and will be identified as a 'bad egg'.

LK's Twitter isn't too respectful of LK. Indeed the fawning 'TWAW' doesn't appear to have been received too well. I suspect in the near future, advertisers will have to make the decision as to whether coughing-up for a slot during the LK Show is in their interests to be associated with her if she keeps on chanting 'TWAW'.

I have so much admiration for Kathleen and all the other women (and some men) who are slowly dragging this into the mainstream. Inch by inch like a pp said. Puuuullllll!

I think this is huge. One of the main gc feminists on actual Lorraine Kelly! It was impossible to imagine only 6 months ago. And also huge is that Lorraine is being praised by trans advocates for this. Yes some are twisting it and saying she got the better of ks, (pink news are interpreting it like that) but it doesn't matter, they accept that it happened and don't think Kelly should be cast out for it. Kathleen Stock reached many new people today. Nodebate is taking a while to die but its definitely on the way out.

I suspect Lorraine thinks being on telly is better than being an academic anyway - she seemed to be implying that having a book out and doing the interview circuit is obviously better than having the academic career Prof Stock worked for decades to build.

Isn't that a sign of emotional intelligence? She's picked up Lorraine's Scottishness and it's brought out her own. She didn't sound Scottish at all on previous interviews nor whenever I've seen her speak.

Twitter is of course, not real-life. I suspect LK would be surprised to find that her assertion that TWAW and TMAM is not shared by the majority of her audience. Indeed she is starting to look rather isolated, and few TRA's are coming to her aid.

Audience figures are what count though of course, and if LK's start to nose downwards because of her anti-woman stance, she will be dropped like a stone.

Ok so in bed and thought I would give it a peak. Omg it’s hilarious. Lorraine is so out of her depth here. What gets me is that Lorraine tweets her belief that TWAW, she'd never tweet what political party she supports because that would undermine her journalistic impartiality - why is this ideology different?
And of course the replies are full of people pointing out the problems with this in terms of policy making. I will never understand how we got to this point, it really is a madness.

However much we all wish she had shouted and argued and been defensive at the suicide stat - that would have been soooooo counterproductive. That would have shown Kath up as argumentative bitch. The fact she stayed calm and agreeable and non argumentative was amazing. She nodded. She agreed. She said she wasn’t transphobic. And best of frikkin all (and I know this because I am currently listening to material girls on audiobooks) she reverted to her Scottish accent. Not too obviously. But a definite twang.

Pure genius Kathleen. Emotionally smart. Well done.

Really KS hardly needed to ask LK why she believed TWAW. For those who realise they’re actually men, it’s nonsense and they’ll think she’s bonkers. For anyone confused who thinks they’re women who want to be men, it’s a nonsensical truism, and she’s bonkers. For anyone who doesn’t understand at all, it’s surely nonsensical and puzzling, and bonkers. So lots of people will be saying “what’s she on about? Is she bonkers?”. I hope.

The more people that state clearly that they think 'transwomen are women' the more sunlight is shone. It's all good.

yes @NancyDrawed I had this conversation with an assistant in Waterstones last Friday. I quoted a tweet and she said 'oh, I didn't know that' and agreed it was more than agreeable. I was ordering Material Girls at the time: it should be in on Thursday. :o
