If Lorraine is considered the most committed TRA ally, and yet she still is giving Stock a platform and acknowledging there must be a debate, then I'm not sure she will get much positive TRA feedback.

Unless, of course, they have learnt that alienating their most avid supporters is not the best strategy.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/11/2021 10:58

Can’t stand Lorraine, so don’t think I can bear to watch.

Appalonia · 08/11/2021 11:05

Here's a clip of it from Twitter for those who missed it

Regardless of her views on this, Lorraine is such a pick me woman!
ArabellaScott · 08/11/2021 11:25

Can only see the wee clip. Seemed fairly civilised.

If we can all agree to disagree and talk about it in a respectful manner, that will be a great start.

Thanks and well done, Lorraine and Dr Stock.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/11/2021 11:34

@Keke94LND - a pick me woman??

Sorry, I am no understanding!

WinterTrees · 08/11/2021 11:34

Mimmybirthingparent is doing a buttergasp on twitter about Prof Stock's audacity in using the media interest in her being bullied out of her job to actually state her case.

twitter.com/mimmymum/status/1457668278315278337

'I intend to use it!' Mimmy states with an exclamation mark of horror, banging the gavel down on Prof Stock's brazen world domination plan.

Women are supposed to politely defer to men, transpeople, dogs, unicorns and amoebas before voicing their own opinions, clearly. How very unladylike of Kathleen Stock to speak out about her own experience of harassment and intimidation.

BraveBananaBadge · 08/11/2021 11:45

It's the narrowest of world views Winter, and so unpleasant with it. I see a drag queen I used to like who came out as NB and hitched everything to the wagon is today pointing out what the Prof was subjected to was just 'peaceful protest'. I really don't think anyone who thinks that can be a nice person. Certainly not an intelligent one.

A pick me girl is a girl that craves male validation by insinuating that she isn't like other girls. It's just the vibe I get from Lorraine

"A pick me girl is a girl that craves male validation by insinuating that she isn't like other girls. It's just the vibe I get from Lorraine"

This, together with the obsequious fawning over certain guests.

The 'pick me dance' gets talked about on the Relationships board when the wife tries to hang on for a loser-cheating-husband.

happydappy2 · 08/11/2021 11:56

I wonder what Lorraine doesn't agree with, that KS says? Would love more info on that...

GCmiddle · 08/11/2021 12:01

Is it me or was Kathleen speaking with a Scottish accent?!

ElectricCarbonara · 08/11/2021 12:01

What is birthingparents point?

Kathleen was intimidated at work to the point that she could no longer bear it and had to give up her job to escape it. Which was the intention of the intimidation.

Because this intimidation is being discussed by Kathleen does mimmybirthingparent think there hasn't been enough of it? It seems like the rage fest got it's desired result of her leaving the job and so it's moved onto horror that Kathleen is now talking about the intimidation.

Lorraine agreed that talking freely was the right thing to do.

bigyellowtractorface · 08/11/2021 12:06

I get the impression that Lorraine is all faux nicey, nicey. Her interview style is to be as pleasing and empathic as possible but underneath i sense she is an as hard as nails, island. She has a career that has lasted decades. She knows how to be a woman and present as motherly, sisterly, warmly and like a big hug and basically how to be a woman in a man's world. I don't think she is anyone's fool. I suspect she feels that if she can make it, anyone can. That's my view but obviously...what do I know? I don't find her authentic but I think she is great at her job.

Notospaday · 08/11/2021 12:09

Well spotted, GCmiddle. Kathleen Stock is from Montrose.

FreeBritnee · 08/11/2021 12:11

@Gumbomambo

I can’t link because I’m a bit shit. Lorraine is trending on Twitter. She’s already been called a hateful bigot just as bad for giving the transphobe a platform and some other nasty names. Poor Lorraine. She’s got it to come from the allies of those Trans people she’s so desperate to please and she tried so so hard.
Attacking your allies for not being pure enough is SUCH an own goal. They really are fucking idiots.

I genuinely believe that smart, well educated, used-to-debate people can get the upper hand in any debate. Politicians do it all the time.

But personally, I don't understand how anyone could ever win a debate over this, given that it has the departure from reality as its premise.

But more than that, much, much more than that, even if your linguistic skills are giving you an advantage in a debate, the very nature of what you're arguing for is what I would like to be put into the public domain.

Even if you win or dominate, let's see what you claim is your prize.

Who on earth can remember the first person who said not all women have a cervix? But now, every politician, gets asked that.

Whatever Grace Lavery asserts, every politician, policymaker, pundit, will be asked whether they agree with it.

I couldn't give a toss about the likes of Lavery. I do care about who is writing prison policy, and putting children and men in the same changing room. And they have to agree with someone like Lavery, in order to do it. So let's all see exactly what Lavery thinks.

Datun · 08/11/2021 12:19

Oh sorry ElectricCarbonara, wrong quote, wrong comment, wrong thread!

😳

ItsRainingProstateOwners · 08/11/2021 12:20

I don't find her authentic but I think she is great at her job.

Don’t forget, for tax purposes she is playing the role of “Lorraine Kelly” on her show Wink

Whitefire · 08/11/2021 12:21

@GCmiddle

But according to Twitter KS has the "wrong" kind of Scottish accent.
bigyellowtractorface · 08/11/2021 12:22

Oh yes! I forgot about that. So true

FreeBritnee · 08/11/2021 12:23

She is a caricature. She’s admitted it through documentation re. tax avoidance as to why she is a ‘business’ and can pay tax accordingly.
Fleek · 08/11/2021 12:31

So glad to have seen it, I don't watch the show and also happened to look on here exactly when it was starting so thank you. I think it's great it was on and fair play to Lorraine for giving KS some air time. It was a fascinating bit of virtue signalling playing out live on TV - did anyone else notice Lorraine was almost completely turned away from the camera throughout, it was like she was saying with her whole body, 'I don't agree with this, don't associate me with these bigoted views?'

I don't think it was the right time for Kathleen to be challenging her because it would have been too easy for some viewers to write her off as a difficult, angry woman, but I so wished when Lorraine said she believed twaw, that Kathleen could have said 'why do you?' Or asked about whether Lorraine believes whether if someone who owns a penis uses that penis to hurt lots of vulnerable vagina-owners, they should then be locked up in a women's prison. If you have to state 'I believe xyz is true' then you have an issue, don't you? We don't go around stating, 'I believe in gravity.' Because gravity existing is a fact. There are ways we can prove it exists. The minute you have to state you are a believer in something, you're clearly stepping away from reality. Even with something like climate change - you see people say 'I don't believe/do believe climate change is manmade,' but it's easy for people to pull out the evidence that it is and if someone refuses to accept that, that's then an issue with their mental health/their refusal to read the evidence/or they're clinging onto denial because of being fearful.

Anyway, well done to Kathleen, she is so calm and collected and doing so much amazing work. I love that she brings in that she's never wanted students to just agree with her, she wants to challenge them. You can't see her say that and think she's unreasonable.
