Netflix Employee Walkout - Transactivism in Microcosm

This is funny and sinister in equal measure.

Netflix employees in California staged a walkout in the wake of the recent Dave Chappelle special. A man was counter-protesting with a 'We Love Dave' sign. A transactivist physically accosts the man, rips up his sign and leaves him holding just the stick it was attached to. The transactivist then shouts, 'He's got a weapon!' giving the crowd the excuse they have been waiting for to jostle a peaceful protester backwards and shout abuse at him. One transactivist then drowns him out by rattling some jingles an inch from his face, while another (who would be great casting for a Netflix remake of The Crucible) repeatedly screams in his face, 'Repent, motherfucker!'

Like the Wi-Spa video, this is kind of perfect. It shows transactivists physically attacking someone, falsely claiming that person is the threat, and then using that to legitimise their own aggression. It all feels so familiar.

I don't know anything about the guy counter-protesting. He could be someone with whom I would agree with nothing except this. But he is absolutely right here and he deals with the situation so well. He makes them all look insane.

People losing their minds over people not believing or believing. Humans seem to be doing this angry thing about believing still. Do you think we ever grow out of it? I don't think we will Spock.

To be fair, they do give more detail in their full online article and make it clear that the sign was ripped by a trans protestor.

But then again it states “hundreds” of Netflix staff were at the protest at the top of the article… to then later admit “it’s not clear” how many were Netflix staff and separately mentions “dozens.”

The hyperbole from the speakers though… “Trans people are in the middle of a holocaust,” Soloway said in an address to the crowd. “Apartheid, murder, a state of emergency, human rights crisis, there’s a mental health crisis. There’s a suicide crisis, a bullying crisis, an anxiety, depression, self-hatred state of emergency crisis.”

Give over, FFS. Like any stale, pale, cross-dressing male is facing “Apartheid” or “Holocaust” like conditions. That’s a massively more offensive claim than anything Dave Chappele has said.

And then you get the true (self interest) pitch for a “Trans” Director to be appointed and budgets to be directed to trans writers. There are ten board members listed online, of which only 3 are women and none (appear, from their bios, to be) from BAME backgrounds. Diversity is an issue on that Board, but there’s way more to balance out before they get to representing 0.05% of the population on it.

Fascinating stuff.

Delighted they are pushing back as i think Netflix Netflix are fairly indulgent and have loads of gratitous and unnecessary wokery in several shows.

I actually watch the dave chapelle show and it was great.
He literally makes the point that his show isnt about trans.
It. Is. About. Black. People.
Yet... here we are.
The thought contortions going on here is frankly mindblowing.

On the bus this morning I realised why (the thread about the rugby club dressing in dresses to raise money) there is fury in the woke with things that up till now have been normal. Another example is the case of some editor being fired for using the phrase 'architecture matters' or something like that.

Its taking the lords name in vain. The rugby club guys, the editor, they were using 'sacred' words or actions without being a member of the sacred cast.

I'm enjoying this month so much.

There's no words for how stupid this is. Take down one comic's special and you might as well take them all down - do they not see what they're doing?

The Netflix exec who apologised for some past perceived insensitivity is getting raked over the coals for not apologising for Chappelle full stop - and why the hell should he.

Was also disappointed with Hannah Gadsby complaining about being dragged into the fray by Netflix as an example of their diverse output. It's no good thing if she got hassle for it, obviously. But again Netflix had a bloody point - they make all sorts of stuff for all sorts of people to watch because they want everyone's money. This is one show out of thousands.

I wouldn't think for a second they'll take Chappelle's special down and worry what they'd be setting themselves up for if they did. Hopefully this holds the TRAs intentions and dangerous idiocy up to the light for a lot of people.

Do these TRA/incel protesters stand-in for Westboro Church protesters when they need to go to the toilet?

I've seen some Twitter comments that the walk-out must have been a huge relief for the rest of the Netflix workforce; a day not having to walk on eggshells, minding your pronouns etc. Must have been like working in a normal environment for once.

Seriously though, these exclusively white religious-tinged TRA/incel types pose a genuine threat to Netflix Corp; if they don't get their demands met I suspect they will resort to sabotage/vandalism and perhaps a bit of opening-up the firewalls to enable cyber attacks. Netflix Corp now has a bunch of Insider Attack facilitators in-the-making.
