Starker: Not only women have a cervix

WildRunner · 26/09/2021 21:17

This has made me cross.

Labour conference: Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58698406

I'm about to go for my smear test. Any man who feels like a woman is welcome to have a speculum inserted into his non-existent cervix - as long as it isn't at the expense of appointments for biological women.

@alekto sorry for your trauma I hope you are recovering well Flowers

You embody being a woman because in every cell in your body with DNA you are a woman with XX chromosomes. Those who seek to reduce women to body parts think that only a cervix or vagina is female, but it is every cell with DNA.

ducksalive · 26/09/2021 23:45

@Alekto an archaeologist would know you are a women if that is any comfort to you.

It is written into every part of you and cannot be erased.

PickAChew · 26/09/2021 23:51

@ozzyteabiscuit

If you don't want trans women in your women's spaces how do you feel about trans men being forced to stay in women's spaces.

When an individual who looks and sounds like a man cannot go into men's spaces and therefore has to be in women's spaces would you have a problem with this? Would they have to drop trow and prove they have the anatomy you associate with women. Or how about genetic testing results to prove what chromosomes they have?

I foresee problems with this solution too.

If you want a trans voice and opinion feel free to watch a trans mans response to JKR.

Transmen aren't male. They can do what they like, for me. I doubt most are in a hurry to use the gents' mind.
ozzyteabiscuit · 26/09/2021 23:52

@Kittii

If organs and chromosomes don't dictate whether you are male or female, what does?
There are individuals with XX chromosomes and no cervix or uterus.

There are individuals with a cervix and uterus who have XY chromosomes

They believe they are women.

Are these individuals okay to come in women's spaces?

What decides what gender they are?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 26/09/2021 23:54

ozzyteabiscuit If an individual has major surgery for health reasons and has uterus, ovaries, cervix removed, are they a woman?

Something about the way you phrase this suggests you think the answer is "yes". I agree, but this is awkward... How do I explain this...

CiaoForNiao Of course they are. Has anyone actually ever said otherwise?

Well, yes. The trans activists. This is the entire premise of transitional surgery, that if you remove a [person]'s uterus, ovaries, and cervix, they're not a woman any more.

And that if a [person]'s penis and testicles are removed, they're not a man any more.

Congratulations, Ozzyteabiscuit, you're a TERF too!

Kittii · 26/09/2021 23:54

That's what I'm along you. How do you define male and female if you don't think it's governed by chromosomes or organs?

Kittii · 26/09/2021 23:55

*asking

EccentricaGalumbits · 26/09/2021 23:55

@Alekto

If an individual has major surgery for health reasons and has uterus, ovaries, cervix removed, are they a woman?

I had a difficult birth with my second child. The traumatic injuries I received by the misused Kielland's forceps tore my cervix, amongst other things. After I crashed from undiagnosed blood loss, they opened me up and discovered the damage. I had an emergency hysterectomy, losing uterus, one ovary, and my cervix. My husband was told to visit me on ITU, to say his goodbyes, incase I didn't survive.

And yet you see fit, ozzyteabiscuit, to come here and tell me I might not be a woman? Despite your ridiculous posturing, and claims of inclusivity, you are nothing but a small minded, offensive, bigot. Biscuit

Don't be silly.

There doesn't seem to be any problem at all with prostate cancer messaging being directed at 'men'. No outcry from transmen who don't have a prostate. No outcry from biological men who have already had their prostate surgically removed.

You HAD a cervix. Your body made one, because it's a female body.

I'm sorry for your injuries btw, sounds very traumatic.

OldCrone · 26/09/2021 23:56

What decides what gender they are?

What does anyone's gender matter? It's sex that's important.

The existence of people with DSDs doesn't mean a man can become a woman just because he wants to.

Im so sorry for your trauma.

You've missed my exact point, of course you are a woman there is no doubt in your mind and my mind that it does not change your gender.

That is my entire point.

ozzyteabiscuit · 26/09/2021 23:58

What gender you feel you are.
OldCrone · 26/09/2021 23:59

What gender you feel you are.

What does this mean? How would I know if I felt like a gender?

ozzyteabiscuit · 26/09/2021 23:59

The existence of people with DSDs doesn't mean a man can become a woman just because he wants to.

So an individual with XY chromosome is a man.

Even though they have a uterus, ovaries, cervix, breasts and truly feels and believes they are a woman?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/09/2021 00:00

Welcome to the Dark Side, ozzy. I'm afraid that once you've acknowledged that people's sex isn't changed by surgery, it's all downhill from there.

But you can cheer yourself up by going to t*rf meet-ups and so on.

Fitt · 27/09/2021 00:00

What decides what gender they are?

There's a whole bunch of puerile quizzes on line, you can answer 5 questions and get a gender.

Kinda like a horoscope, plug in your time and date of birth and it will tell you what the stars have in store for you.

Hope that helps.

Kittii · 27/09/2021 00:01

So male and female are just a "feeling"? How can you tell whether you "feel" male or female?

So in your view there is no objective definition of men and women?

Do you really, really believe that? Seriously?

Esspee · 27/09/2021 00:01

I am a woman without a cervix. This is getting soooo confusing.Confused

ozzyteabiscuit · 27/09/2021 00:02

@OldCrone

What gender you feel you are.

You know. Luckily for you, you have not had the experience of your body not matching the gender you feel.

100%
Fitt · 27/09/2021 00:03

It's pink for girls and blue for boys, proper science.

Kittii · 27/09/2021 00:04

So do you believe it is like a soul? You can have a woman's soul in a man's body and vice versa?

ducksalive · 27/09/2021 00:05

Isn't healthcare a touch difficult if there are no categories for male and female, men & women other than feelings?

Kittii · 27/09/2021 00:05

And does that mean someone who is non-binary is actually a man and a woman at the same time?

ducksalive · 27/09/2021 00:06

Or do non binary people actually have non sexed bodies?
Again I feel healthcare would be a challenge.
