Starker: Not only women have a cervix

This has made me cross.

Labour conference: Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58698406

I'm about to go for my smear test. Any man who feels like a woman is welcome to have a speculum inserted into his non-existent cervix - as long as it isn't at the expense of appointments for biological women.

You know. Luckily for you, you have not had the experience of your body not matching the gender you feel.

  1. if I have a developmentally limited child who does not have the cognitive capacity to read about gender, how do I work out whether they're going to have periods or not?

  2. I have had the lifelong experience of my body not matching the gender I feel of "equal member of society whose opinions and knowledge base should be treated with the same respect accorded to those people over there who have fewer qualifications and years of experience than I do".

Is there a flag for this gender identity? And a shorter name?

Fitt · 27/09/2021 00:07

I'm space gender.

These are my pronouns. I have them on my email.

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

ozzyteabiscuit If an individual has major surgery for health reasons and has uterus, ovaries, cervix removed, are they a woman?

Something about the way you phrase this suggests you think the answer is "yes". I agree, but this is awkward... How do I explain this...

CiaoForNiao Of course they are. Has anyone actually ever said otherwise?

Well, yes. The trans activists. This is the entire premise of transitional surgery, that if you remove a [person]'s uterus, ovaries, and cervix, they're not a woman any more.

And that if a [person]'s penis and testicles are removed, they're not a man any more.

Congratulations, Ozzyteabiscuit, you're a TERF too!

Yes of course the trans activists have claimed that. I should have been clearer and said "have any GC people actually said otherwise". Apologies.

In my experience the TRAs seem to contradict themselves a lot. As in almost every statement contradicts another. The whole movement will eat itself eventually.

Alekto · 27/09/2021 00:08

Swyer Syndrome is a congenital condition of development on the male pathway, btw.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/09/2021 00:09

CiaoForNow, don't apologise. You gave me a great way to express my [surprise] at Ozzy's transphobia.

Billi77 · 27/09/2021 00:11

If you spend time with trans men and women you’d know what that ‘feeling’ is. I’ve had this privilege. I will not call a trans woman a man or a trans man a woman. It’s sadistic. This is nothing new. Trans people have always been around and only now are we evolving towards more acceptance.

ducksalive · 27/09/2021 00:11

I'm actually not unsympathetic to the challenges of gender dysmorphia.
But I don't think getting confused about the unchangeable realities of sex in an effort to be kind is actually helpful.
It can in some healthcare situations be very dangerous.

Oh good grief. Spent plenty of time with them thanks.

Problem is that I have a diverse friendship group beyond trans people, and so acknowledge the needs of other people too.

ozzyteabiscuit · 27/09/2021 00:14

@ducksalive

Isn't healthcare a touch difficult if there are no categories for male and female, men & women other than feelings?
Of course, healthcare is not straight forward anyway. Any time you need healthcare you will have your medical history discussed, this should include whether you have transitioned as it is medically relevant information, the same as telling them you are diabetic or have a family history of heart disease.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/09/2021 00:16

My 12 year old nibling is experiencing pelvic bleeding. Should I call a doctor, Ozzy?

OldCrone · 27/09/2021 00:17

You know. Luckily for you, you have not had the experience of your body not matching the gender you feel.

Actually, I just said I didn't know. Are you suggesting that you know more about me than I know myself?

Greencoatblue · 27/09/2021 00:18

So an individual with XY chromosome is a man.
Even though they have a uterus, ovaries, cervix, breasts and truly feels and believes they are a woman?

Hate to break it to you ozzyteabiscuit (well in honesty I don't) but that combination just doesn't exist! If you can produce one individual with XY (exact) chromosomes who has a uterus, ovaries, cervix, breasts then I'll not only eat my hat but I'll bow down before you. Have you ever done a biology lesson at all?

OperationDessertStorm · 27/09/2021 00:19

But we still need words to describe the 2 sexes. Facts should not be seen as offensive. If your friends needed the use of a surrogate or a sperm donor, if your friends need medicine in the correct dosage for their body, if your friends need to know if the bleeding from their genitals is normal or not, we need words to communicate effectively. That’s all.
OldCrone · 27/09/2021 00:19

Are you suggesting now that sex is actually relevant?

Enough4me · 27/09/2021 00:20

People are free to choose their own identities, wear what they like, change names etc. but there is no medication nor treatment to swap an X for a Y chromosome.

Transwomen are transwomen and in every body cell with DNA they are males.

EccentricaGalumbits · 27/09/2021 00:21

@ducksalive

Or do non binary people actually have non sexed bodies? Again I feel healthcare would be a challenge.
And gender fluid people? Cross dressers who are men during the week and women on a Saturday night?
ozzyteabiscuit · 27/09/2021 00:22

@CiaoForNiao

I can't reply to your quotes message, but I was alluded to what I believe your answers would be, in that yes she is a woman.

My answer is whatever they feel they are.

I don't believe somebodies gender changes based on what organs have been removed or added, they are still whatever gender they feel. Happy for them to have their own opinion on their own body though.

yourhairiswinterfire · 27/09/2021 00:22

It’s sadistic.

So is referring to women and girls as "bodies with vaginas" or "menstruators". Utterly repulsive. The language of incels.

Something else that's sadistic is locking women up with rapists. That's where denying reality and pretending being a woman or a man is nothing more than feelings gets us. So I'm never going to play along with it. Those women in prison are human beings too, they don't deserve to be caged with men who rape women just to spare men's feelings.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/09/2021 00:23

So you think gender and sex AREN'T the same thing?

ozzyteabiscuit · 27/09/2021 00:23

Did I say it wasn't?
ozzyteabiscuit · 27/09/2021 00:24

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

So you think gender and sex AREN'T the same thing?
Yes I said this in my 2nd or 3rd post.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/09/2021 00:25

Then why do you keep talking about organ removal?

ducksalive · 27/09/2021 00:25

Any time you need healthcare you will have your medical history discussed, this should include whether you have transitioned as it is medically relevant information,

To trans in any way you have to move from something to something.
There needs to clear definitions of what you are starting from and moving to for this to be possible.
So we need sex definitions and an understanding of the difference between sex and gender.

Acatcalledcharlie · 27/09/2021 00:27

[quote Fitt]Here you go!

Find out your true gender in a fun quiz.

www.playbuzz.com/gregs/what-gender-should-you-actually-be[/quote]
Apparently I'm a man! I think it was because I said I liked roast chicken 🍗 and would want to be a barista rather than a cleaner or a host. Well then, you learn something new every day! And here was me thinking I am.a body with a vagina and a cervix haver.

OldCrone · 27/09/2021 00:28

I don't believe somebodies gender changes based on what organs have been removed or added, they are still whatever gender they feel.

But if female and male, woman and man, have no meaning other than how someone feels, what is it that they are identifying with?

If a man is just anyone who says they're a man and a woman is anyone who says they're a woman, how would I know whether I identify as a man or a woman?
